Arma 2 Catch All

yeah OPF2 does not look tactical at all.... he took what 10 shots from an assault rifle within 20 feet, even from the hip in real life you would be dead meat. Looks like my hopes are pinned on a non-buggy arma.

The presenter did mention difficulty levels, so a realistic mode in OPF2 may exist somewhere...

As for Arma 2, I'm still on the fence. As far as I can tell from the videos, the underlying mechanics still seem the same, and I'm not convinced a graphical upgrade is worth it.

The underlying vehicle physics may be the same, but the AI has gotten such a huge upgrade it does not feel even close to the same game. I didn't really get into ArmA for one reason or another (mainly performance, I think), but ArmA 2 really nails having teammates that aren't useless and an enemy that keeps you guessing. My complaints currently are Campaign bugs, and Bloom issues. Post Process effects are supposedly a toggle in 1.02, and the campaign has received a bunch of improvements as well. Hopefully this will fix my complaints.

The campaign is the best I've played from BI. Even better than the OFP: Resistance campaign. It's a damn shame it shipped with show stoppers like triggers that wouldn't trigger, and AI that stopped responding.

How is the multiplayer? That is what will make me decide on buying this or not.

Damn Stylez, where did you get a copy? The game doesn't even exist in the Futureshop/Best Buy database. If we got it early in Canada, I must know!

The early version I have is the Petergames release found here: http://petergames.de/Armed-Assault-2... . If your German isn't good there's a walkthrough on the forums to help finish your buying. That said, I have the Steam version Pre-ordered and honestly it's best to wait for that one rather than deal with some crazy international downloading extravaganza.

Regarding multiplayer, I haven't really played any as the NA servers are few and far between at the moment. Looking forward to Co-Oping the Campaign in the coming week though!

North American release delayed until July 7th. (link)

That's the boxed version. Steam version is still out in 4 days! :p

well at least we all know it can not be as bad as AA3! Maybe even better than demigod..

They usually don't let Steam release ahead of the physical distribution, but maybe this time will be different. *crosses fingers*

I wouldn't worry Certis, this game's got some serious Publisher confusion going on. The 505 version that is the UK release is also the NA digital release I believe. Got game is simply the folks putting the boxes on the shelves as far as I understand it.

I really want to play this bug I don't want it to be a buggy mess. Please keep reporting on how it runs!

I want to buy this now but I have the decorating bill I have to pay off from ethan allen coming in this month. If you are married and you are looking for furniture DO NOT LET YOUR WIFE GO ALONE!

Also I have to pay for painting my house (inside) so my video game fund is not in the cards this month.

Wait.... what? I hadn't realised it was released over here! Checking this thread was the best thing I've done today... apart from buying Arma II and then convincing my in-laws to pay for it as a birthday present. Woo!

I just read the Eurogamer review. It sounds great. It seems to be similar to Far cry 2 and Stalker in the sense that it's open world. I'm very interested in this now.

I'm not loving the scenery in the previews. I really enjoyed Sahrani from ARMA, particularly the desert and mountain towns to the south.

Not a huge loss though since I'm sure someone will mod it into the sequel within a couple months

I picked up ArmA about 3 months ago while searching for something to feed the FPS jones. The problem that I've faced up to this point is that most of the folks doing co-op missions are pretty well organized and pretty strict about rank and file rules. It just seems like there is a very high barrier to entry in this game and it is very intimidating. Am I wrong here?

Will ArmA2 have the same perceived barrier to entry? This just doesn't seem like a the generic run and gun shooter to me.

That Eurogamer review did it for me. Pre-ordering on Steam tonight. Here are some choice quotes:

That unapologetic realism, combined with high headcounts, huge maps, and splendid opportunities for joint ops, means ArmA II is sure to replace its predecessor as the MP weapon of choice for the discerning infantry simmer. For those passionate about vehicular verisimilitude, there are fewer reasons for loyalty.

It's Oblivion with assault rifles.

This sounds interesting -

Awesome moments. This is real war. Give the AI a medal! The campaign - absolutely incredible! So atmospheric. Landscape almost real. I killed a rabbit! Thank you so much BIS. Heaps of bugs. Buy this game.

It's definitely not a run and gun shooter. Playing that way will get you killed very quickly and frustrate your teammates.

I figured, and that is all good imo. I am just looking for a place where I can get a good, solid introduction. Maybe I can get on with some Goodjers and get shown the ropes.

The only thing keeping me from pre-ordering right now is not knowing the release date and not wanting to agonizingly wait if it gets pushed back.

God, "Oblivion with assault rifles". Hey Certis, why didn't you let me preview this too so I could be abused by angry game zealots?

I've played a lot of ArmA and OFP with people from the IRC channel #operationflashpoint on gamesurge. They like to play some intensely difficult missions, but they are always looking for new people to play and don't mind helping n00bs get up to speed.

I'm sure the folks here at GWJ are the same way.

Anyone know if the multiplayer uses any type of anti-cheat/hack program?

Probably the best break-in for new players will be the campaign. It works very much in a reverse-funnel direction, starting with a very limited scope and objective, and eventually leaving you the whole island as your objective to be attacked as you see fit. The 4 player campaign plays much like Rainbow Six co-op, in that you can heal or drag your buddies when they go down, and you play a particular specialist (a medic, sniper, Team Lead, or Automatic Rifleman.)

So, you can play the campaign with 3 human controlled teammates?

Edit: Nevermind. Found the answer in the initial post :D.

Sounds like a demo is supposed to be coming out in the next day or so. Keep your eyes peeled.

Looking forward to that.

Pre-ordered on Steam today. Count me in!

Here's some reading for anyone eagerly awaiting the release:
Dsylecxi's Arma2 Tatics, Techniques, and Procedures Guide
Large / High-Res maps of Chernarus

I gotta print one of these --

Have the game pre-ordered, and have TrackIR5 on the way as well. Definitely wanting some co-op action with you guys.

Has anyone here tried the co-op? If so, is it worth getting the game for? I have found my interest really rising on this game partially due to this thread.
