Mass Effect 2 Catch All

The Mako was definitely the biggest barrier for me, I nearly quit the game more than once because of it. It's been awhile now, so I don't remember all the problems I had with it, but I think the control was the biggest one. Trying to do the side quests was a huge pain as well, I found it very difficult to get the Mako to do what I wanted, without it flipping out and moving all weird.

I think your problem was doing side quests.

Side quests are horrible in every game.

I never had a problem with the Mako. I wouldn't go so far as to say I really liked the Mako levels or anything, but they never annoyed me that way. The obviously needed a way to let you explore deserted and environmentally hazardous planets and it does that. I will say that the Mako bits of any of the main story arc missions are my least favourite aspects of them though.

Some of the side quests were actually pretty good. I liked the Cerberus sub plot, and the one with the lost missile where you get trapped was pretty cool.

However I thought that the Mako could do with more progression. The Mako doesn't change from the first time you use it (usually on the Liara mission) when you have just 2 armatures to kill, to the Virmire mission where you have lots of Geth Colossi to deal with. Being able to equip it a bit with better shields, higher jumps or different weapons would have made the Mako bits more interesting. I want an Geth Armature cannon on it!

Mako should be upgradable with various functional thingummies and planets should have various obstacles/ways to get to the goal a la Blaster Master.

I`d play Blaster Master 3D in Mass Effect universe.

I can't find a link, but I read or listened to an interview with the Doctors before E3 started in which they said the Mako controls have been revamped to make them better. I think they also said the side missions would be a bit more meaty as well.

I was hoping to see more on this from the E3 demos, but they all seem to concentrate on the "shooter" aspects of the new game. Time will tell.

The Dr's did say during E3 that the side quests could have a major impact on the main story, or at least on major battles. They also mentioned a new character you could bring to your party, the baddest ass assassin in the galaxy. Apparently we're making relationships with the seedy side of the universe.

He wouldn't happen to be a red-tinted robot with a predilection for calling people "meatbags," would he?

I'm not sure if this type of footage has been posted yet, but there's a short clip of an ME2 cut scene just released.

http://www.gamersyde.com/stream_1152...

It's a great example of how the cut scenes have evolved from the first game (talking while moving, cinematic angles, etc.).

I have to say that it's quite refreshing to see such significant gameplay and presentation evolutions applied to a sequel in such a short time-frame from the previous release. It seems as though BioWare really took the criticisms of the original game to heart. So far it seems like they're doing a bang-up job of making everything 'bigger, better and more bad-ass'.

Also looks like there's some continuity from ME1, since the asari in the clip seems to be her, based on the remark about her sister.

And he actually called her Nassana at one point. Two completely different human sidekicks. I guess it was too much work to have Kaiden and Ashley back when, depending on your savegame at least one of them is dead. So this also means that there are different romantic furrows to plough.

I think this is the part of ME2 that interests me the most, how it's going to handle carrying data over from the first game. I'm really excited to see that them go down that route, I hope more sequels do this in the future.

Based on the combat footage (which leads up to the cutscene), Miranda makes Ashley look like a harmless kitten by comparison.

This cracked me up. It was the very first thought in my head after the "the baddest ass assassin in the galaxy" comment.

So there's a new 'conversation interupt' feature in ME2 that lets the user abruptly exit/end a conversation with the pull of a trigger.

I need this game NOW.

Sounds similar to what they were promising for the first game, but for some reason it didn't make it in.

Damnit. It feels weird the game I am the most excited about this year doesn't hit until 2010.

I'm bummed because apparently the 'exit-trigger option' becomes available for a sustained part of a given conversation, allowing you to continue a conversation with the exit still highlighted, letting you fire it whenever you want.

In this video, the player pulled the trigger early, before the following exchange:

"Nothing more to say?" Shepard asks, shoving the guard off of the platform, letting him fall to his death. "How about goodbye?"

So 'Arnold'...so cool.

The year seemed to be passing very quickly (as usual) but now it seems to have slowed to a crawl. Someone bring an great game out to take my mind off the great games that are going to come out.

Ahhhh more iPhone temptation. I've resisted getting one so far but I'm not sure how long I'll hold out. It doesn't help that my friend keeps showing me how you can summon up an aerial view of the walk you are on or show a diagram of a rail line with a blip on it showing where the next train is and when it's due at the station or have an app that can name fonts you snap with the camera.

Actually, I do have a backlog of older games to play but they seem less appealing than they did pre-E3.

New, short, spoilery preview. Do we at least get to have sex with Miranda before we send her off to die unlike Ashley?

That's the way we roll!

Seriously, this is exactly what I wanted to hear about from ME2. It sounds like they're making the side quests important again. If you don't make nice with the smugglers, you won't be able to have that crucial ammo dump latter. If you don't save the general, you don't get assistance from the fleet when you need it. I want a reason to explore the universe, and it sounds like they're giving it to us. Plus these sound like true multiple endings. I want to see what happens when my team gets obliterated for biting off more than I can chew.

while previous squad members from Mass Effect will return, none of them will be recruitable

Lame. I want Wrex. And what about the romances? I didn't put up with that racist brunette just so she could dump me in the sequel.

I was wondering about the romances, too. What's the point of creating an intimate personal relationship in a long-form story like a trilogy if that relationship can't be meaningfully advanced past the first part? Or are we going to have to wade through a lot of cutscenes of Shepherd talking to her lover via video phone?

Hmmm...I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, I like the idea that your choices have real impact on how the plot plays out. But conversely, I don't want to be self-conscious about how I'm playing the first game...wondering if I'm making the "right" choices so I don't set myself up for failure in the sequel.

I don't like the idea of being shut out of experiences in Mass Effect 2 because I made decisions in the first game that I had no idea how or why it would impact the second.

Extremely lame. Wrex was my favourite NPC. I am curious how they will explain your party member leaving.

Tali - Goes back to the flotilla
Wrex - Leaves to bounty hunt
Garrus - Inducted as a spectre or rejoins c-sec
Liarra? Kaiden? Ashley?

They say that Liara was the asari driving the flying car in one of the pre-E3 trailers, so it's possible that some of them show up as non party members a la Carth and Bastila in KOTOR2.

It's pretty clearly stated that former party members will make appearances in the game. I can see Wrex, Ashley, and Kaiden not being in the game if your actions in Mass Effect dictate that.

Wha? What will become of Violet's precious Kaiden?! And Garrus was my favorite NPC. This is a little disappointing. Hopefully, the new characters will be just as memorable.

Ditto. After replaying it I find I really like the NPCs. Every one of them except Liarra is enjoyable. I hate Liarra. Hate hate hate her. Seemed to be an uninteresting character that was little more than a blue chick for Captain Kirk to bang.
