That's been out for a long time already-- the "Platinum Hits" edition.

Mass Effect 2 Spoiler on 1UP Listen up 06/03/2009 episode.

Garnet dropped a big spoiler on the show I wish I hadn't heard. It's just after 53.06. You can listen upto that point safely. He was going on to say something else so I skipped ahead quickly to 54.32 and they were onto Dragon Age. In his defence, he said it was in the show demo, so we all may learn about it shortly, but I thought I'd throw up a warning.

*Shakes fist in air* Gaaaaaarrrrneett!!!

Yeah, that "spoiler" is in the new extended trailer. But there is another spoiler in there that's kind of annoying.

2. It's possible to finish the game with Shepard dead, in which case you can't import your save into Mass Effect 3.[/color]

I'm guessing it'll work kind of like...

I'm going on a media blackout now. I loved Mass Effect. It resonated with me. Bought it for the 360 even though I already own it on the computer.

I hope Wrex and Garrus make a return in some capacity. They were my two favourite NPCs.

Also in Garnett's slight defense, Klepek had the same info in his preview on G4TV.com and actually his whole preview was based around it. Still kind of did not want to know that.

For me the closest game to achieve that was actually Obsidians Kotor 2. The game was pretty much unfinished, but what it did have was complete justification of the Sith way of thinking in being evil, something that original Kotor completely failed at and to lesser extend Mass Effect. In Kotor 2 I remember one mission where you have a chance to save someone from being beaten for owning some debt he could not repay. If you do not save him one of your evil companions comments that what you did was actually good because now this person will learn from his mistakes and become stronger for it. While if you do save him your companion comments that even though he is fine now, he will learn nothing and continue making same mistakes, and remain weak.

But however Bioware chooses to make ME2 I'll still play it.

I'm with you on that stuff - so few games manage to have a really compelling evil/dark character option yo ucan play. Mass Effect had some good 'harsh but pragmatic' moments with the renegade options, but there were also a lot of bits of sheer douchebaggery. Kotor 2 was the only game that really sold an alternative to conventional morality rather than mustachio-twirling psychosis - even if big chunks of it were lifted straight from Nietzsche.

Edit: It's possible that their 'reasonable' evil path seemed so much more acceptable because they deliberately contrasted it against HK's more traditional blow-up-trapped-strangers-for-giggles morality.

I want sheppard to get knocked into a coma, after which the game will ask you to pick one of his crew to play. You play from their perspective until sheppard recovers, and then you get to bang him/her. That's right, I want ME2 to be a 20 hour reach-around experience....the future of video games

Damn.

That action looks a lot more fluid this time out. While I understand how games like KOTOR, ME1 & Fallout 3 need to mix a hybrid of rpg stat-based gameplay with their combat sequences, it generally comes off with the gameplay feeling slightly stilted.

This looks WAY more like a straight up action title where the combat is just as polished and 1:1 as Gears of War, etc. And the kicker is that we'll (supposedly) be getting Gears-quality shooter gameplay along with the stat-heavy rpg customization found in the first Mass Effect. It's like the best of both worlds.

Simply awesome.

THAT looks sexy.

I thought that there was a great deal of variety in weapons and armour in the first game. They just completely screwed the pooch during itemization process and basically eliminated 85% of the game items as rational choices. When lower class level 7 armour is not better in stats than level 3 upper class armour, but ends up costing 3 times more, then it gets sold. Not worn.

If you're fast, you can pick up on the names of the two squadmates, though they're probably just mock-ups to show off the game without spoiling anything.

I'm all about the equipment lists. You should see me drool over Jagged Alliance or Silent Storm.

Mass Effect, on the other hand, had all the awful tedium of huge equipment variety and absolutely none of the joy from comparing models stats or aesthetics. Every weapon appeared in the inventory screen as a big rotating box. IMAGE(http://rps.net/QS/Images/Smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Hmm. This looks exactly like the first Mass Effect to me. If you played as a soldier and set your squad-mates to fully control themselves, it played just like this.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first game, I enjoyed the story, but the game itself left a lot to be desired I thought. Having said that, I'm getting pretty excited about the sequel, looks like they are addressing a lot of the issues I had, plus the trailer just looks really awesome. I just hope the Mako is gone...

I never really got the Mako hate. Sure, it wasn't the best controlling vehicular simulator I've ever played, but it served its purpose. The controls can definitely be improved, but I'd be disappointed if it was removed from the game.

Did you do all the side quests? And drove all over every single planet in the game? Then you should've encountered planets with such horrible geometry that they kept twisting your Mako 90 degrees sideways every few feet.

The Mako was definitely the biggest barrier for me, I nearly quit the game more than once because of it. It's been awhile now, so I don't remember all the problems I had with it, but I think the control was the biggest one. Trying to do the side quests was a huge pain as well, I found it very difficult to get the Mako to do what I wanted, without it flipping out and moving all weird.

One might argue that the problem there was not the Mako, but the side quest planets.

Yeah, the planets had terrible topography to drive over. The Mako sections in the main story missions weren't so bad, although still kind of boring.

I got the "completionist" (is that what it was called?) achievement, so I guess I did most all of the side quests. Eh. I had no issue with driving, once figuring out that it's a combination of using both analog sticks. I actually appreciated that the game did such a good job of "righting" the vehicle after it took a tumble.

My biggest problem with the Mako was that it was possible to aim below where the Mako was capable of shooting. It was very frustrating to have the reticle trained on an enemy only to realize that I was shooting over its head.

One problem with the Mako was that the turret effected the direction the vehicle drove in. If you had the turret pointing forward you drove forward as normal. Turn the turret 180 degrees to point backwards and the Mako would drive as if the back of the vehicle was the front. Have the turret at 90 degrees (pointing out sideways) and a slight rotation one way or the other could reverse the direction you were driving in. Took me a while to realise what was happening. I'm pretty sure no other vehicle, real or virtual, has ever worked like that and it wasn't an ideal arrangement when trying to manoeuvre on high cliffs.

I had fun with the Mako climbing over the extreme terrain though. It never pissed me off that much. I visited all the planets and I think I did all the side quests at one point or another. I stopped collecting ore, etc as soon as I had enough.

I was annoyed that even in the future you still can't drive a flying car. A jumping one, sure, but it can't fly.

And it was flown by Seth Green. And you had a bright blue Lesbian Girlfriend. Yeesh, how much more wish fulfillment do you want?

To fly over a f*cking mountain! It's the f*cking future and we still don't have a f*cking flying car! You'd think that'd be an easy thing to do after spaceships and blue lesbians!

Isn't a fricking jumping spider-car good enough for you? That car can climb damn near anything

You know they do have flying cars, but they couldn't figure out how to attach the rocket launchers to em. The poly-posmitronic ducts would backfire, causing a core reactor snufulufugus, making you sterile. Shepard has the flying car, he just chose the Mako so he could blow sh*t up.
