(Brown's) Blood in the Water

I couldn't do this justice. Great political drama going on in Britain. If Brown lasts a week it will be the greatest turnaround since Stalingrad. Hop over to the BBC and get up to speed. Honestly, this has everything in it from corruption to back stabbing.

This is continued fallout from the revelations about MP expenses. I hope the Brits throw them all out and put in people who have a inkling of honesty about them.

Yeah, but the problem is that people are really looking towards the BNP as an alternative because they are so angry at the two or three main parties. The BNP are very bad - racist, xenophobic - they basically grew out of the Nazi movement in the UK. If they get in as a result of Labour being rubbish, this could mean very bad things for the UK. I do find it interesting that the UKIP - who are basically the libertarians - are like second in the polls now. That's amazing. I can't believe the political upheaval caused by the economy since I left. Because, come on, that's also a reason - Brown was the chancellor of Britain when this recession/depression/whatever was gestating...it's easy to point the finger at him as he was in charge of the money.

I always think of the BNP as hating blacks, and UKIP as hating the French.

I've been finding it very hard to be that bothered about the expenses. I bet that the set of British MPs still represent one of the lowest levels of corruption amongs elected government officials in the world. Who hasn't "sexed up" their expenses claim. The only difference here is that it's our money. I reckon that if they're only fleecing us for 100 grand over a few years they're probably not doing anything really heinous.

Brown is manifestly rubbish though. Blair might have been an empty smile with a bucket of spin and a mound of opportunism, but he never looked as pathetic as Brown has most of the days he's been in power. And to think that I thought me might actually be better than Blair.

And who are we going to get instead? Cameron, who I regard as totally identical to Blair. If only the Lib Dems could get their act together, and give us an alternative not based around bigotry.

Sounds like the UK is having the same problem the US does: anyone who actively seeks the position of President/PM should be automatically disqualified from ever holding it.

The real tragedy in all this is that Brown was continually badgering Tony Blair to step aside and let him be PM and Blair resisted for years (no doubt sensing that Brown wasn't upto it) now Brown finally got what he wanted it's turned out to be his worst nightmare.

My local drama group is in the middle of rehearsals for a comedy revue at the beginning of July and several of the sketches I'm in involve Gordon Brown as PM. The bugger better not resign before then.

Frankly, anyone at the highest levels of government in the UK or the US has to be a moron to think they'll be able to get away with being anything other than 100% squeaky clean.

Sleaze sells papers, especially in Britain, where the man in the street likes nothing more than an excuse to complain.

Recognising your comment was probably fairly flippant, why do you say the UKIP hate the French? I kind of agree with them right now. End to mass immigration (I'm not saying all immigration, just enough so that we can support our current population, and certainly not throwing people out like the BNP want) and withdraw from the EU (our involvement in which has become rather frustrating and pointless in recent years).

lib dems bigotry = in reference to LGBT issues?

Get over to the Beeb and follow this story. It is evolving by the minute. Brown has lost three cabinet ministers in less than 24 hours. This is truly historic stuff.

As an aside, I agree with Dudley's assertion that British politicians are cleaner than most. It's just the timing of the scandal and Brown's poor handling of it. Blair wouldn't have probably have ridden this one out, for example.

Uh-oh...

Surely they have to call a general election now?
