Remember Me? I'm the Pile Over in the Corner

Pages

The weather is getting warmer, and outdoor activities are calling. The pool looks nice and refreshing. A good way to cool off after a hot summer's day. There's only one problem...

That would require you to go outside (in most cases). So, instead we'll turn our attention towards the growing pile of games that have gone unplayed or unfinished. Don't give in to the urge to turn your pale skin bronze. Go and play an old game and show it who's the boss.

This month's pick of the pile is

[size=30][b]The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Featuring intuitive touch-screen controls and innovative puzzles, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass offers new challenges for fans of the series and an easy-to-grasp introduction for gamers new to The Legend of Zelda. I don't know what's going to grab my attention this month. I may breakdown and play one of the $9.99 games I picked up on the Best Buy clearance. Not sure, yet.

Pile... we hates you, preciousssss. You burns usssss.

I'm going to re-attempt Lost Odyssey this month. I'm on disc four now, so it shouldn't be too hard to take behind the shed and execute Columbian-style.

Okay, summer is here. Time to start knocking things off the pile.

First one up: Resistance 2 (SP)

OK, back on the pile-train.

Freedom Force (0-2 on playthroughs of this)

A light, but important pile for me this month. Psychonauts on PC.

I'm jumping on Freedom Force. I picked it up on Steam for cheap and I never finished it the first time around (on disc). Good call, Nightmare.

1. Finishing the Final Mission in GTA4 on 360
2. Beating Mercenaries 2 on the 360

If I can do those 2, I'll consider it a good start.

I'm playing pokemon platinum. Getting a fair way through it but it's one hell of a big (read: grind) game..... I'll try and get through it this month, not like i have a job to hold me back though the weather is really nice and the DS doesn't play well with direct sunlight on the screen.

I can't remember why I never finished it, I think new shiny stuff got in the w...ooooh, Sims 3 is out this week?

Put me down for Ico. I may add another if I think of something.

My pile game this month is Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich. Despite playing the original through 4 or 5 times, I've never actually completed the sequel. That changes this month. Right after Assassin's Creed.

Right now it's just Persona 3 for me (isn't that enough?). I am over 1/3 of the way through it, though...only another 67 hours to go.

Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories for the PS2

Not that it ever really ends...

Gears of War. It'll be on Casual though.

I'm hoping to tackle Far Cry 2 this month. I'm not sure I want to commit to anything else, though I expect I'll start making my way through the Fallout 3 DLC.

It is noted as so.

I'll fix it eventually.

You'll get yours, Hemi. Oh yes, you will.

Ohh, ohh, let me jump in on this. Beyond Good & Evil for the PC. ( Yeah, it would probably be better to play it on my 360 or something, but I already got it on Steam before I got a 360 and I need to justify the purchase. )

Casual? You're better than this, Quintin.

This month I'm going after New Super Mario Bros. Hopefully I can knock this one off while I'm playing through InFamous. I'm not sure how long it takes to play through Mario without the secret levels. If it's short, I may try and add another later.

Yeah, I played CoD4 all the way through on Hardened. Even the ferris wheel. It's just that with Gears I'm not jiving with the control scheme or the cover system. As a PC gamer, it's something I'm having to get used to.

I got up until No Fighting in the War Room on Veteran in COD4. That stumped me for about a month. I drop down to hardened and I finish the game 15 minutes later. WTF? Such a good game though. Gears isn't too bad. I beat it solo on insane. Raam is the real stopping point there. It was a mix of luck and some more luck that I finally beat him.

Baldurs Gate 2 for me.

By all accounts, it's even better then Icewind Dale so I should be all over it.

It's like I don't even know you.

I'm going for F.E.A.R. on the 360 in between my dalliances with Fallout 3.

I'm going to say Far Cry 2 on 360. It may be an idle boast, as I've got new games incoming this month (expect to see them on next month's Pile).

I've just hit the southern area, so there's still a substantial amount to do in the game, but I'm finding I can easily spend an enjoyable hour causing mayhem without realising where all the time went.

As a secondary pile game, I'm going to say Pure. I've only just started in on it, but I reckon I can power through it in short order. It's quite fun, and a great $20 purchase.

Far Cry 2 is a lot of fun as long as you don't try to grind in it. Pop in, cause some chaos, do a mission or three, pop out. I found I stopped enjoying it if I forced myself to play it for too long. But I had a really good time with it.

Right, I'm thinking this is a long shot but I'm going to go for Stalker: SOC. Playing it with the Complete 2009 mod and it's really sucked me in.

I just toppled Baal, so the only unfinished game I have right now is Final Fantasy IV for the DS. It's a good game so far, but the difficulty is really grinding me down.

Nonetheless, add that in for me. Also, put up the first STALKER (meaning Shadow) game on the PC, and Alone in the Dark for the 360. That covers computer, console, and portable. I should be able to go at least 33%.

Put me down for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

I know that I'm turning into the resident Alone in the Dark fanboy, but... I wrote up a few tips here that might help you get past the game's inability to communicate its own intentions.
