Dear God no.

Is Raiden pretty much a robot at this point? He could get some pretty cool robot abilities. Could be fun.

I thought he was de-roboted at the end of MGS4.

Or at least he was turned into a more human-like cyborg.

Also I didn't see the press conference, but I haven't seen anybody use the word "exclusive" yet. Just that the game is being developed for the 360 platform.

I'll be excited to see a more action oriented title staring Raiden, and hopefully it won't be exclusive because I would like to play it.

This gets a giant meh from me. Never really 'got' MGS. Played 1 and half of two, but they didn't click for me.

I daresay I'll give it another shake of the stick when it comes out.

They announced it during the XBOX only portion of the press conference.

I don't know how big of a coup this might or might not be, only because I was never a big MGS fan.

I see. Oh well, here's hoping for a timed exclusive.

Either way I'll be interesting to see what comes out of the game.

Cool for MGS fans, but I could care less personally. I always thought MGS was a great heap of Twaddle infused with gameplay ideas from 1999.

So 17 hours of cut scenes and 2 hours of gameplay? And am I misremebering or wasn't Raiden the somewhat asexual character with long white hair you played in MGS that ran around a level naked?

Yup. It was Hideo Kojima giving players the finger in MGS2. He's probably the most successful professional troll in the gaming industry.

I don't know if this is really an xbox only exclusive though, It's not really confirmed either way but I could see it being multiplatform or at least a timed exclusive.

Didn't the backlash about making Raiden the main character in MGS2 teach them ANYTHING?

Hey, they turned him into an awesome cyborg-ninja in MGS4. Raiden is no longer the hated man-child with the whiny girlfriend of MGS2, he now kicks ass.

I'll take your word for it. And to be honest, I'm not crazy about Snake (any of them) anyway. Hopefully this game will have less man-ass and more kick-ass. Though a female protagonist would be nice for once. The hotties are all either evil or in your ear, telling you how to use your controller.

And Meryl.

Ooooh baby.

All I heard about from MGS4 is how everyone wished they could play as Raiden now.

I think they should advertise this game as a MGS w/ Raiden, and then have the player play as Snake the whole time.

Nothing funnier than a bunch of crying fanboys!

That would be amazing, and a totally Kojima thing to do.

MGS: The Revenge of Raiden: Starring Solid Snake

I only played 4, and honestly can't remember anything about Raiden other than being some sort of MGS Wolverine Cyborg that holds swords with his feet and at some point is sliced in half or something by a giant robot which I think is called a Metal Gear. Maybe he will transform through this game like Nemesis in Resident Evil 3. At the end, he will be a cyborg Snake.

Neither Kojima nor Konami's press release states anything about it being an exclusive. They only mention that the game is in development for Xbox 360. It's rather safe to say that there also will be a PS3 version unless Microsofts somehow decides to shell out some money.

I'm sure Sony will make sure EVERYONE knows that the new MGS franchise will also be developed for the PS3 (assuming this is correct) before the end of the week. MGS is still their poster boy, they can't let it go so soon.

Fine, jeez. You have to admit that it's a big coup for Microsoft, about as big as when they snagged first dibs on GTAIV, maybe.

Wasn't Raiden introduced because Kojima didn't want to make any more Metal Gear games? But Konami wished to continue, as I remember, so Kojima stayed on so as to "protect" Solid Snake from the assiness that is a common sequel. At least, I recall reading that in an interview before MGS2 came out, but I can't recall where.

I don't think it is though especially since I think it's more surprising that there's no MGS4 for 360, It was an good announcement but not a great one.

We will see what happens.

You guys really need to sit down and play the Substance version of MGS 3.

Lightening bolt action

I love game titles that sound like they were created via a random word generator.

I hope the game eventually arrives on the PS3 it seems unnecessarily mean spirited to deny the PS3 fans access to the game.

I suspect I might agree with you but I'd be interested in trying the game.

Wasn't the Raiden anger mainly because people were expecting to play Snake? If you know you're getting Raiden going in it's a different proposition.

What next? Metal Gear Solid 6 starring Gray Fox?

Well, yeah, so much for that exclusivity thing.

Grenn wrote:

That might actually work.

The fact of the matter is that the Metal Gear universe is almost entirely populated by crazy people, many of whom could hold their own as the lead in a game. As long as they move away from the MGS branding (sticking to a more generic Metal Gear _____) and are up front about who is headlining I can imagine a number of really fun and interesting games that could be developed.

If Raiden wasn't in the first Metal Gear than I haven't run into him. That was my only Metal Gear experience. Will keep an eye on this one, but cut scenes bore me to tears after the first viewing.
