Warhammer 40K: Space Marine

Re: above: Oh god I love 40K.

Most likely a day one purchase - yes I like WH40K that much.

Hell. Yes.

Pure awesome! Can't wait to see what is in store for us when they reveal info on the 40k mmo.

*Just saw it, and more awesomesauce!*

Is it just me or does the polycount on the models make it seem like we're watching an RTS really zoomed in? Is the game an RTS?

It is a third-person action-RPG.

Any more information pop up on this bad boy, or is the teaser all we have from E3 2010 so far?

My best guess is that they are using the same engine from Dawn of War 2, scaled down so that it can run on the consoles. From what I have seen in the trailers, it seems like they are sacrificing some visuals to increase the number of sprites on the screen at one time. I'm all for this, as it looks like it will allow for some huge epic battles against hordes of enemies.

"Sprites?" I think you mean enemies...

My favourite part is the marine pistol whipping the ork in the face with his bolter. I really wish the units in Dawn of War would do that... Whoever animated the units wasn't very creative for units who don't have melee weapons.

I know space marines are very cliche at this point, but for some reason, I really dig the 40k art style. That E3 trailer has me interested.

40k Space Marines are the originals, though.

Robert Heinlein and his Starship Troopers would like to have a word with you.

Also, I think I'm just a sucker for the whole 40K style because everytime I see a trailer for a Warhammer game my wallet just gravitates out of my pocket. This looks fun!

Touche

I will buy this..., for the Emperor!

To think otherwise, is a sign of tainted gene-seed or an agent of Chaos.

Be wary brother.

Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment.

Zeal is its own excuse.

Blessed is the mind too small to doubt.

An open mind is like a fortress with it's gates un-barred and it's walls unguarded

If this preview gave me an erection lasting more than four hours, do I need to see my doctor?

Actually, just today my son is giving his final project for the 3rd grade school year on "How to" do something. Some kids chose "How to bake cookies" etc etc

He chose "How to build and paint a Space Marine" and has been working away at it to create a step by step diorama and a presentation over the past two weeks.

I hope it goes well for him. He is really gonna be excited to see this video.

Relic is developing it, so those were both good questions.

Uhhhhh..... Darmak and Jilard at Tanagra?

Seriously, though, this looks pretty cool.

Mirab. His sails unfurled.

Man...I need to stay away from this thread before I jump the geek shark and descend into dorkdom.

Dude, you were just quoting from Warhammer codices, and I recognized the quotes. We've both jumped the geek shark, already.

I've been playing a lot of CoH lately, so I couldn't help but spot the similarity. "3rd person action-RPG" doesn't completely rule out RTS-style combat either.

Relic's using a modified version of the DoW2 engine (which is a moddified version of the CoH engine) so yeah, it'll look like an RTS.
