ARMA 2 Preview - It looks AWESOME!

Some folks at TG were able to get a first hand look at the next generation of Armed Assault which it due out in June.

The game looks absolutely amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on this bad boy.

It's been a long time since Joint Ops...........

Bohemia Interactive confirmed this game would be coming to Steam during a Twitter event.

Why do I get feeling that it's still a bit unpolished? Some visuals look awesome, but animations don't seem to blend well. Also, I hope they will make a real use of AI, cause maps that big beg for it.

Gah! I still haven't gotten to playing the original despite owning it for two years!

Hopefully the interface is more streamlined since Opflash - I seem to recall that it hadn't been improved for ArmA 1.

I've been stoked for this for a long time. It's looking pretty awesome. They are using new Inverse Kinematics routines for their model animations, hopefully the weirdness won't be as weird when playing. They have completely redone how AI reacts to situations, so you can expect plenty of suppressive fire and intelligent behaviour. No more lying down and spinning in place like Opflash/Arma!

I'm hoping it comes out in a much more polished state than Arma 1, as it was pretty much broken at launch. They can't afford to do that to their fanbase again, as loyal as they are, I don't think they can take it.

I will be playing this...and Flashpoint 2.

Does anyone use TrackIR? If so, is it worth the cost?

I'm actually more excited for Flashpoint 2, despite it not going for quite the same amount of realism as ARMA.

Mostly I still feel burned by the first ARMA though. I'm a bit wary of the second one.

I tried to use a Track IR for flight sims several years ago. What I discovered was that I apparently thrash around like a rabid weasel while gaming so it didn't work out so well.

I can't imagine using it for a shooter but if it works really well I may have to unpack it and give it a try.

It works great for flight sims and Arma. While I wouldn't call it essential for ARMA I can't play any flight sims without it any more. Your Situational awareness is so much higher when you can literally glance about the cockpit.

I want to go there.

I use it for ArmA, it's amazing. I'm a part of ShackTac and play with Dslyecxi and the rest of ST every Saturday. Here's a video of one of our adversarial (pvp) games last night.

I love/hate the audio for this franchise.

Thanks to Bear, Stylez and Alabasterslim for their comments on TrackIR.

Alabasterslim- In additional to the watching the video you posted, I also read through "Dslyecxi's ArmA Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures" (http://dslyecxi.com/armattp.html). It looks like a lot of fun. How long have you played with ShackTac? Overall, has it been a positive experience for you?

It's been over a year now with ShackTac. Incredibly positive experience for me. They're a great group of guys.

I hope ARMA II has only one thing fixed. If I hit the prone key while under fire I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT UNTIL YOU PUT THE GUN ON ITS SLING BEFORE KISSING DIRT.

I hated the animations in ARMA as they made combat a series of steps and made it all jerky and crap. But Flying the choppers and Airplanes and driving was lots of fun. Especially learning to fly choppers, people are so trusting.

Pull up! pull up!! A blackhawk goes down into the ocean....

Yep, it will be available on Steam. It's now in the coming soon category.

June 26.

To nobody's surprise, I think, it seems that 1.00 version is a bit buggy.

Points for consistency, I guess.

I don't care BI! I love you anyways!

Woops. Pretend above post has a KARMA blue shell and Stylez above that. Living my double life as my fiancee...

HOT! Are you single, baby?

Bleh. So what, we should wait 3-5 months after release to purchase, by which point the online community will have modded out half the bugs and added more material?

EDIT: As an aside, does anyone else think that BI would be best served by focusing specifically on the infantry experience, rather than trying to shoehorn in planes, tanks, cars, and helicopters? I mean, it works in BF, but for what ArmA is trying to be, it just feels off, to me.

I really thought the helicopters were the best part of the original game once you understood the nuance in the controls. I think a lot of that "off" feeling comes from the animations. They break the realism of the environment.

Wait, did you even dare to think that they will release it in ready-to-play state? Gamers, you learn nothing.

Yes. I'm not interested in flying and driving all these machines anyway, and playing infantryman greatly suffers because they're trying to bite more they can chew.

I agree there's a chance including vehicles could skew gameplay, but if it's done right it could be fantastic. I had some incredible experiences in Project Reality with competent helicopter pilots swooping in to evacuate a squad under enemy fire or being dropped into hot landing zones.

I guess I'll be waiting to see how well the gameplay balances on release. I'm just stoked to have the choice of two promising tactical shooters (Arma 2 and Operation Flashpoint 2) to keep my eye on this year.

I am also totally interested in this game. As long as there are no show stopping bugs I will try and ignore them as much as possible. I'm especially interested in the multiplayer side, the coop sounds cool.
