Fable 2 catch all

I went crazy on the LittleBigPlanet pre-order nonsense. Went to Best Buy to get the Nariko (Heavenly Sword) character for $5, then ended up buying from amazon for $60. With Illinois tax, it would have been $61.30 to buy from Best Buy anyway.

The inFamous / Brutal Legend / Red Faction Guarilla, and previously Battlefield Bad Company nonsense is really kind of pissing me off. I don't think I'm ever going to pre-order again.

The folks who ordered the LE got a very pared down, last minute, offering from what was first advertised. I'd be surprised if they ever offer the whole costume as DLC. It doesnt matter though.. it isnt that special at all and there were some serious bugs about accessing it from that chest.

You can get the completionist achievement with the FREE version of this DLC.

If you download the free version, there is a shop below the bridge in Bowerstone that gives you the backflip dog book right away when you talk to the seller (you don't buy it, it's just given).

I then went around killing townsfolk to get the bad expressions, but needed to regain the strength ability since I'd removed them all. Went to the crucible for that, but when you do that, it saves :(. My character is now evil with a halo. I didn't want to save. Oh well.

If you have the Temple of Light, you can easily recovery your Good status by just donating gold (you'll get 75 good points for every 5k you donate, with 75 points being the max you can get for a single donation). I did this same thing, killing guards until I was Evil. Then I did my community service, donated gold, and now all is forgiven.

Not to derail the thread, I wonder how effective it is. I bought Fallout 3 instead of Fable II and pre-ordered and everything. I have a strict "1 RPG at a time" rule. I'm not going to pre-order something because of some additional nonsense. In the meantime the developers and publishers are spending money developing special content in hopes it will generate more day one sales? Hasn't this short-tale, two week sales cycle been proven to be broken for some time?

Fortunately, Fable II is plenty of game without the exclusive pre-order DLC, so I'm not terribly upset, I just thought it would be neat. I'd even be willing to pay for it. If that's not how they want to play it, that's fine.

I'm still not sure if I want to purchase more content for the game though. I didn't pay attention to the fact it was 560 MS points. That is somewhat more palatable. Unless it's for Fallout 3, I just haven't been snatching up DLC like I used to, but I couldn't tell you why.

But I killed non-guard innocents also. :(. Shop owners etc. I know they'll find new people to staff those shops, but my log sheet is stained. I'm not too upset.

I think it's been proven pretty effective in getting pre-orders which help to gauge the number of copies that should be shipped. It's nothing new, but other games such as Jade Empire (Xbox) came with a limited edition disc that had the extra content. I don't think it's too much effort in many cases. For Red Faction Guarilla, its a skin on a gun, with some stat tweaks. Brutal Legend has another skin on a guitar with some added audio.

I'd much rather they gave out shirts or stuffed animals instead, keeping the game the way it is. Even Fable 2 extras such as pub games are fine since you can buy that on its own. I feel like exclusive items don't sit well while bundled DLC is fine.

Large retailers demand exclusive content. If you don't play along, you're risking lackluster marketing on behalf of retail, which will result in less than optimal sales. It has to be unique for each retailer, as well. So I don't see it going away anytime soon, quite the opposite.

Finished up the main story last night - was a good run. Now I am going through again as evil...

You should still give that guy 5000 gold though. If you don't, no town in Westwood. You can still be evil then.

Sorry for the threadnomancy, but I was hoping I could get some feedback. I'm just about to go to the spire. People have mentioned that this would be a good time to play the Knothole Island expansion, which I'm going to do. Should I wait until after I've completed the original story to buy the more recent DLC?

Thanks.

I think that not only should you finish the main game before playing See the Future, you have to. I can't say for sure because I already finished the game before playing it, but part of it wouldn't make any sense unless you'd finished the main story.

Thanks ahrez.

You don't have to. My wife started playing Fable, and the first See The Future quest was the first thing she tried to do. Given that she has no skills, and bare essential weapons, it didn't turn out well. I think that experience pretty much put her off the game.

It makes sense that you could do the first 3 quests of See the Future, but the final one, from a story perspective, requires that you have finished the main story. If Lionhead did not actually make that a requirement, then that's a big failing on their part.

I'm trying to hunt down the Doll Catcher achievement. I have a Reaver doll to trade, does anyone have the Garth or Hammer dolls?

Mister Magnus has them all. He was nice enough to help me out. Check the previous page.

Ahhh yes, the doll trading debacle. I completed Mister Magnus's collection for him, and he did indeed respond in turn by loaning me the rest of the set for cheevo purposes. I imagine he's still got 'em.

For some reason the whole exchange looked weird on my screen. Probably because my gothed-out character was huddled in the corner of the market square, furtively trading dolls with a glowing orb of light while my 15 illegitimate children looked on, screaming for attention.

I need one of you to tell me to buy this game. I very recently bought a 360 and am currently enjoying Red Dead something fierce. I completed Shadow Complex, loving every second of that, too. But the only other game I've bought for the console (that's worth mentioning) is Castle Crashers, which, yes, is also a fairly lovely game. For all the comfort they've brought me, my problem is that I simply need more.

I liked the first Fable. It was a pleasant experience - not without flaws, surely, but enjoyable enough for its time. If it's felt that more back story is required in order to make an informed recommendation, I shall provide. But I guess the only thing I really need to know is if this is markedly better than its predecessor.. Question mark.

Pick Fable2 out of a bargain bin/used aisle.

A mere six seconds before I read your post I managed to find a very cheap copy. My own post is rendered fairly irrelevant.

Thanks, though!

Edit: Oh, actually, I have a follow-up question. Is the co-op worth exploring? I heard it's really quite lackluster, but none of those words were spoken directly to me.

Never bothered with the co-op. Heard very bad things about it like cann't carry over loot, character, etc.

Coop seemed pointless to me unless you're achievement hunting.

The real trick is to hook up with a friend online just long enough to get some seed money for your real estate empire. Get a million gold, dump it all into houses, rent them out, and never worry about money in the game again. I'm not normally one for "cheats", but freeing myself from the financial grind really let me enjoy Fable more.

That said, I'd be happy to hook you up with the seed money if you decide to go that route.

Some advice- install Fable2 to your hard drive. There's some weird and frustrating input lag in the menu and some of the controls when playing off the disc that virtually disappears when you install it.

I'm tempted to stick the disc in just to see how much money I've accumulated since I left the game, since you still earn some money when not playing this game.

I loathe grind, so I might take you up on that offer.

I install games anyway, simply because I can't stand to hear the DVD spinning, and spinning, and spinning. Thanks for the tip, though.

So, for someone coming at this years later, was the co-op any fun at all? The whole thing with player 2 not really being a real character might actually be a boon in the case of my wife, who probably doesn't really want to play through the game anyway - but might be talked into playing along with me from time to time.

Under those circumstances, I'd say it's almost ideal. Among two serious players of the game, the coop was solidly broken, but if you're playing with someone casually, I could certainly see it working out for you.

You're still going to have to deal with an insufferable camera solution though.
