Quarantine 2019 - A Casual Zombie Apocalypse

Pages

EDIT May 18, 2009: Wizkid has a created a human group in the game: Citizens With Jobs.
EDIT May 25, 2009: Nxys has created a zed group in game: Brain Acquisition Professionals

EDIT June 10, 2009: Send me a PM here on these boards or in the game's boards if you want to join BAP. My username there is also Yoyoson.
EDIT June 12, 2009: All current BAP members have been made into recruiters. Folks looking to get into the group, either PM or make noises at another member when you see them. BAP recruiters, please encourage your invitees to check out the Message of the Day.

In order to join a group in the game, you must meet up with an officer of that group in the game and then they have to extend an invite to you as one of their actions.
Most of CWJ are officers and can readily recruit you into the fold, whereas since BAP hasn't paid its dues yet, only myself, Nyxs Optare, and my friend Brazilian Wandering Spider are able to recruit into BAP. If you see one of us in game then hang around and try to make sure we know you want to be recruited. Also, we can only extend recruitment invitations to players that are standing.

Current BAP members, please check the Message of the Day in game for news and updates.

This game is rocking my world. I'm posting this in Games vice the MMO forum because it's casual and free to play. All you need is a web browser.

This is essentially a web-based MMO deeply inspired by Urbandead, which I enjoyed a lot in the past. You start the game with no skills, but as you wander around killing zombies and helping each other out (if you are a human aka Citizen) or eating humans and attacking their stuff (if you are a zed), you gain skill points. For humans, the skill points let you buy abilities like better attacks, the ability to climb over barricades, engineering skills, or perhaps most importantly, the ability to research a cure for the virus. Zombies get skills like healing upon a successful bite, the ability to ruin buildings, and the ability to talk and open doors.

The most striking thing about this genre in comparison to most other persistent worlds is that your character is ALWAYS in the game world, even if you're not online. Therefore, you can at any time be attacked by the other team. Finding a hiding spot is key to survival. Humans can hole up in a building and reinforce the doors, but zombies just have to be a bit more clever about hiding. Paranoia is key.

Almost every action you take in the game costs Energy points (EP). Once you're out of EP you can't do anything anymore, but everyone regenerates EP at a rate of about 1 EP every 7 minutes. It takes precisely 6 hours to build up your EP meter to the full 50 EP.

The round ends when the zombies have infected the entire human population, or once the humans have completely researched a cure. Or it ends when the creator decides the game is close enough to the end and calls it. Each round lasts 2-4 weeks. Last round, the humans completed the cure but the creator decided to reset that back to 0% and put it into overtime mode. Then we zombies overcame them.

The game is in beta but I haven't found anything seriously wrong with it yet. Currently I am playing the zombie side, but it seems there is a lot more options to be had as a human. Post here if you want to meet up. I'm in Cartierville.

I am definitely going to check this out. I used to spend waaay too much time playing 4 different characters in Urban Dead. And I always appreciated the constant ebb and flow as the various factions fought it out. This sounds like it would be right up my alley.

Protip: as a survivor, you can climb inside barricaded buildings. You'll probably waste a lot of energy and get a little banged up in the process but it's better than sitting on the street corner waiting to be eaten.

I'm holed up in a police station with three other survivors right now. Couldn't find any guns in there, but they did apparently have a baseball team. BONK!

I found my way into a hospital. It probably isn't the safest place to be, but I wanted to stock up on some medkits. I think I'll try to relocate later today.

Signed up and spent my first 50ep. Pretty cool so far.

Wandered around a bit, explored some buildings with destroyed doors, then found a building with reinforced doors, climbed in, and found a few humans there with some notepads (what are they for?) and other items. I grabbed a golf club and a steak knife, and headed back out.

Grabbed some dead bodies and moved them out of buildings (what does that do?) then discovered a zombie on the 3rd floor of a church and clubbed him to death.

Headed back out, climbed into the window of a reinforced building, and am currently waiting for my ep to reset.

Seems like I have a lot of reading to to but it's a nice little time waster.

They're for leaving messages for other humans/smart zombies. You can write a title on it the notepad which will be displayed to anyone who sees the notepad on the floor, and anyone can pick it up and read what's on it, or add to it, or erase it.

Throwing out the bodies means, if the doors have been secured/reinforced, the zombies have to claw their way back in again after they stand up. Otherwise they could potentially stand up and start killing you again.

Dead survivors also have a chance of turning into zombies. It is preferable they be outside when they do.

Created a human called Norbert. Found a zombie wandering on the street and clubbed him to death with a lead pipe. That took a surprising amount of effort. I noticed my EPs were getting low so I crawled into a pub to hide. hopefully i'll make it a few hours there to recharge.

PS how do you get health back?

Holed up in a gun store, but first managed to pick up a handgun (& two boxes of bullets) and shottie (only two shells...boo!). Waiting for EP to reset before I head out to explore some more (there's a hospital nearby).

I actually took up UrbanDead again and play almost every day, though based more on inertia rather than anything else. I'll try this out and see if it tickles my fancy.

The Winchester?

You get health back by using health kits, or having someone else use them on you. Without any medical training they're only worth 5 hp each.

I've found the odd bullet and shotgun shell upstairs in the police station I'm hanging around in. Might be worth a look if you can't find any more in the gunstore. I'd give you my coords but I think that's cheating and some jerk scooped up all the ammo I collected (I dropped it in the room with the other survivors since I don't have a gun).

I'm in a Texas Gun Shop and well-armed.

Edit: Now stuck outside. Hoisted on my own petard.

You hummies keep transmitting your locations...i'm just waiting for the EP to return =P

I found a bat and bashed a zombie's head in before heading over to a heavily reinforced gun shop and managing to climb into it with my last 2 action points.

Seems fairly sparsely populated ... new?

I'm holed up in Danault Mansion in Monktown. Where should I head?

If one of you guys is the zombie I shot to death, I'm sorry...

...sorry that I couldn't kill you again, you foul, shuffling slab of rotting meat!

P.S. Please don't kill me while I'm stuck outside.

The hot tub.

I played Urban Dead to completion so is there any point trying this out too?

Urban Dead kind of went downhill once zombies could wreck buildings. Huge groups of zombies would go around wrecking every single building. Survivors had no way to hide and couldn't move across rooftops without falling to the street. Since one survivor can't repair a building and barricade it himself in one turn anyone moving around gets left out in the cold.

Really? I failed to climb in a building five times?

So now I'm stuck outside with but a few hitpoints and no EP. Now I remember why I usually just start UD as a zed.

Plus some buildings can't be repaired in Urban Dead without setting up a generator first. Because it's too dark to repair.

I had the same problem. Even dumped a shotgun shell so I'd fit.

Oh man, my bad!

Thanks for the tips too.

So whaddya all say at the next round reset we join the same team? Also, someone needs to create a GWJer group.

It does look a lot like Urban Dead; I played that for a while but eventually got bored after maxing out all skills on both sides and fighting the 20th or 30th mall defense.

This one seems a bit more detailed but otherwise looks a lot like it.

I'm tanstaafl there, btw. Playing "Dirk Rapier" (human, at the moment anyway).

Oh I never thought of dumping stuff so I could climb in.

Well I'm stuck outside but I have a shotgun so bring it zombies!

Is there a GWJ group?

So I joined as a zombie. It looked like I had the option of creating a human as well, but now I can't seem to create any more characters. I wanted to get a feel for both sides - am I stuck as a zombie for now?

This sounds great. I like the permenant existence in the world, but the only thing that concerns me is that you can get attacked when you're not online.

On a side note, are there any other zombie MMO/RPG games out there that mimic The Walking Dead or 28 Days? Let me just say if Left 4 Dead had been more of a role playing game or MMORPG placed in a full city like GTAIV....I would never stop playing.

You are allowed to create a second account with a second email and play on the other side. There are some rules against collaboration and you have to make sure there is a minimum of 5 squares of distance between your characters, and they must be in different districts.

How about in this round all the Humans get infected and join the Zeds, while the Zeds stay infected?

Ill see about making a Zombie group. Any suggestions for a name? GamersWithTeemingInfections?

Mutton Chop the zombie has arisen!
I lucked out and spawned right beside a tasty human. Nom nom nom.
After that I couldn't find anyone else so I just wandered around biting random objects. I tried to eat a box of shotgun shells but the game wouldn't let me. Later, I found another zombie and grunted at him. Hopefully we can be friends.

>_ Eat Shotgun Shell

As you chew on the shell, it goes off and obliterates the top half of your head.

You have died.

Lobbie-

Thanks for the heads up, will have to try it!
