Plants Vs. Zombies Catch-All

Too redundant:)

Dirty, filthy enablers! There goes another tenner.

i played the tutorial and thought it was alright. What convinced me to buy it was the first level where I was able to choose which 6 flowers i wanted and there were empty spaces for like 40 types. I hope it gets more complicated and difficult.

Love this. LOVE. And so happy to see a Mac version at launch.

Whack-A-Zombie is a blast, as was the Zombie Bowling. And some of the in-game text is laugh-out-loud funny. You PC Steam people have no excuse for not buying this.

I worry about the replayability. I look that are different defense builds- you can choose what you want the loadout to be. I don't know if it'll capture my interest for all that long. Also, I don't have interest in the free popcap game. But since Pop is going to charge $20 and Steam is charging $10 for pre-order, I'll go ahead and do that-- $10 sounds like a chep enough investment.

I think the game will become pretty challenging as things go on. The trial was easy. But from what we've seen in videos and etc, what you see in the 30 minute trial period is a tiny fraction of what is in the full game.

Also, a tower defense game I can play on my laptop. Yey!

Um guys I wouldn't waste your money on this. Its neat and all but Frontline Defense has more depth and free.

Of course you wouldn't waste my money on this.
More to the point, they're hardly the same game; PvZ has very little in common with the traditional tower defense genre.

Oh god. Uni finals are this week, and all I can think about is lawn mowers running down zombies...

So I don't understand why some people who pre-ordered are playing the game already, while those of us who purchased it on Steam are still waiting. It's 5/5/09, so why isn't the game unlocked?

Not really upset about it or anything, just a little confused.

I am not sure but it said something like 12 hours left to unlock when I last looked at it.

Eurogamer says 9/10. Knowing the standards of these guys the game is pretty much a must-buy.

If you bought it directly from Popcap then you got to start playing it a day early. However you paid $19.99 instead of Steam's $10

Hah! I just figured that any game that has zombies floating through a pool wearing bright yellow duck rings would probably have some ridiculously funny achievements.

Also, I'm an achievement whore.

Can't wait to get home from work to relax and play this. I forced myself to stop playing the demo a bit early last night because I didn't want to ruin too much. I love the help menu..

Enjoying it so far, just got past the first couple night stages - still waiting for any semblance of challenge, but I'm sure that will come

Only played the demo so far (bought Steam version), but it was super easy. There were a couple points where I made a wrong decision and once a zombie made it to a lawn mower. I really hope the full game brings more of a challenge, and I think it will from the reviews. I hope this is unlocked and playable when I get off work this afternoon.

If this is anything like Insaniquarium, it should scale upwards nice and easy, but it will definitely get there.

I pre-ordered this last night and decided to pick up Peggle Deluxe and Peggle Nights while I was at it. Next thing I knew, it was 1:30 in the morning and I had finished Peggle Deluxe's Adventure mode.

I hate you PopCap

I'm on the fence. I get the feeling it might be a fun casual game; on the other hand, the scope of what you can do (based on what I've seen so far) seems so limited.

If it helps at all, QS, I played the demo last night through and even though the £6.99 deal is still on Steam, I don't think I'm going to pull the trigger. Even with a variety of seeds and different zombies, I don't think it would have legs for me beyond a day or two.

If it were a flash game, I'd gladly play it through, but as it stands, I can probably find better uses of my time and money. (Sonny 2 has been killing my productivity and its free!)

This article and video might change your mind: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6035-Review-Plants-vs-Zombies

From what they show in the video, there's a TON of content in this. I went from not interested last week to pre-order and can't wait for work to finish to play today.

Rock Paper Shotgun has their review up

If there’s a complaint to level at this main campaign, it’s the difficulty level. Of course, PopCap’s primary audience is a casual one, and there’s never been a desire in any of their games to be fiendishly difficult. But as someone with barely any previous Tower Defence experience, it didn’t offer any thwarting challenge for me until well into the final third. When it does get difficult, it’s not so much because of a lack of tactical application on my part, but because the night-time garden with a pool is half-concealed in obscuring fog and damned mining zombies I couldn’t see coming are attacking my sunshine producers. Importantly it’s never frustrating in these stages, but the increased difficulty does feel somehow artificial. Finding this jigsaw puzzle too easy? Now do it if I poke out one of your eyes!

However, not being enormously challenged didn’t mean I wasn’t having a completely lovely time. It’s just so idiotically pleasant to play. Everything bobs and sways so elegantly, the cute, cartoon style is always engaging, and the ever-increasing swell of undead attacks are inventive and often hilarious. In fact, the game didn’t lose its ability to make me laugh out loud at any point, with fantastic gags scattered throughout. Then there’s Crazy Dave, your guide through the game with a saucepan on his head, who gurgles insanely at you while offering tips, and selling you items from his shop (the boot of his car)....

The sheer tonnage of game is quite remarkable, and the gleeful entertainment of it all makes every bit worthwhile. It’s possible when just playing through the early stages of the main campaign to wonder if the fuss is earned. It’s cute and all, certainly funny, but perhaps too simple. But by the time you finally emerge from its grip, it all makes sense. Unlike other PopCap classics, it’s unlikely you’ll go back again and again to play it through once more, but the ludicrous amount of extras, on top of a lengthy main adventure, means the £15 is well spent.

I did like Crazy Dave.

About the difficulty it seems we're getting mixed answers. Here's what Wired said:

WIRED Simple, addictive gameplay, huge cast of diverse characters, simplistic, yet cleverly stylized graphics

TIRED Later levels may be too tough for most gamers

Later levels too tough for MOST gamers? Other reviews say it only got marginally tougher at the end levels and was pretty easy before that. We'll see tonight!

Dancing. Zombies. That is all.

Alright, I'm in. Filthy enablers.
