Sure is pretty. My supervisor here at work has an '02 Camaro SS that he's put a fair amount of money into. Most recent additions are new headers, exhaust, and a major suspension overhaul. That thing hauls ass. He can't manage anything but a chirp in the tires because they just lock and off he goes.

heh.. It seemed appropriate.

My list starts with the suspension work, and know that it will be a slippery slope. Hoping for an exhaust leak so I have a good excuse to upgrade the whole thing.

So, this thread is now due for a revival.

I love the color, Thin_J. I've never been that much of a Mustang fan, but the "new" redesign is pretty nice.

Anybody else excited about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe? I drive a Nissan 240sx, so any rear-wheel drive, 2-door, turbocharged 4-cylinder, Japanese coupe is right up my alley. I know the V6 has more power, but I just love 4-cylinders. A few months down the road I might own one (of course, the price difference between a new Genesis Coupe and an older Miata might just be too much to ignore).

Thanks! The color was part of the reason I bought it. I see a fair number of yellow mustangs, a lot of red ones, and a lot of black ones, but the "Grabber Orange" color is pretty rare. Me likey, obviously.

On the Genesis coupe the latest issue of motor trend complains that the engine computer cuts off power when you shift near redline, leaving you coasting for a second or two after you shift. Granted, that's the V6. They make no mention of whether the 4 Cylinder Turbo model is hit with the same limitation.

Lookee lookee :D

Imagebucket is the sux. Photo won't load.

Edit: Finally loaded. Nice.

Hrmm... Well, it seems the pics of my completed car have gone missing, but I'll list the specs:

1971 VW Super Beetle, 1302

  • Disc brakes, race strut suspension with Bilstein rear shocks and rear torsion bar
  • 17x7.5in Katana Race Wheels
  • MOMO Tornado Carbon steering wheel
  • Autometer Ultralite Guage cluster installed in the dash.
  • 2056cc Porsche 914 motor, dual Redline-Webber Carbruetors
  • Raby's Aircooled Technology Type-4 Porsche Conversion Header with Magnaflow muffler
  • DTM Porsche cooling system, for putting a Porsche motor in a Bug

I believe about 130Hp (I forget now, but definitely well over 100Hp). Around 25mpg, this thing was a little beast on the freeway. Never had a chance to take it to the track, as I had some engine trouble (old exhaust didn't fit properly, screwed with the lifters, in a nutshell) and the car is now parked back at the parents' in LA. Going to head down there this summer to fix it up and bring it back to SF, though.

Also have a couple other VWs, including a 1965 Karmann Ghia project car (that thing is so far gone it's sad), a Type III Wagon, and a Myers Manx-style dunebuggy. All at my dad's place right now, of course, but eventually I will restore them and play with them! Hopefully before gasoline becomes obsolete, but I intend on converting the Type III to an electric motor.

EDIT: Forgot to say, that's an awesome color on your GT, Thin_J!

I said it before I'll say it again.

It hasn't even been 24 hours yet and I'm already pricing a borla exhaust, JBA headers, and a K&N intake.

I think I've made a huge mistake.

Nice!
If you are going to go headers get the long tube skip the cats and toss on some flowmaster tins.

Borla sounds nice but you are paying for the name more then anything.

Get yourself a hand held tunner and go nuts.

I love cars. I sold mine before I moved to the city though, so it's strictly a spectator sport for me.

Nice ride Thin J,

I just picked up a '08 Mazdaspeed 3. It was between that and a 08 subie wrx sti.

I liked the STI but I like my 10 grand better. Although its really tricky to get traction down with the fwd.

This is my first new car. I've always bought used and always done some mods. I'm scared to do anything with this one because I like my warrenty.

Thanks for the suggestions. Given your own vehicles I figure you know more than I do, so they're noted, starred, asterisked, etc, etc, etc.

But while I have your ear (or eyes, as it is), if I get long tube headers and a matching shorty h-pipe, where do I get a flowmaster catback system? The only flowmaster stuff I can find for the 05-09 mustangs are axleback, which wouldn't reach correctly to the h-pipe for the long tube headers would it? It seems like it'd be a couple of feet short on length, but I might be understimating the length of those headers.

I looked at the Mazdaspeed stuff. There was a used Mazdaspeed 6 at the same dealership I got the mustang at.

The thing was... the gas mileage on the Turbo 4 in the 6 was only a one mpg higher on the highway than the mustang. But I'm pretty sure the window sticker said it took premium fuel, so there goes any advantage it may have had there. The mustang likes regular just fine.

The only advantage the 6 had in my eyes was all wheel drive. But there was only $200 difference in price between the two cars and the 6 had about 5,000 more miles on it.

Win to the Ford.

As far as new cars go... well I don't do new. I can't handle the 12-20% drop in the car's value in the first year it's off the dealer's lot. I'll let someone else eat that and pay less for my vehicles

Maybe, maybe not. We purchased a Saab 9-3 SportCombi about a year ago, for which something European like 90.3 octane fuel is recommended by the manufacturer. It'll take regular 87-octane and not complain too much, but after a highly-respected mechanic strongly recommended 93-octane premium, that's what we use. There seems to be a pretty significant difference in mileage because of it. The car is rated at 20-29, which is about on par with what we got with regular. However, with premium, it seems to average more around 24-35. And that's at about 85 on the highway (I really, really love this car). So the gas actually pays for itself and then some, plus it's better for the engine. But YMMV.

This package right here is what you should need.
http://www.brenspeed.com/maclongpack...

The guys at brenspeed are amazing to work with. Will cut deals if you call them up. Located in IN and will ship most places real cheap.

The great thing about the mustang is it is very modular.

You never have to do anything all at once.

I forgot to best mod to do right away. When looking at dollars spent compared to increase felt.

Pop a 4.10 (or 4.55 if you never plan to spray or boost) in that rear. It will cost you about 500 installed and you will feel that day 1.

Thanks for the info Wired. I hadn't seen that website before. Definitely keeping that one in the favorites folder.

I only live 4 hours from there so I guess if I ever have anything major I want done I can just call them and set it up so they do the install work.

I could care less about the bells and whistles, I want the safest car on the road. I can't imagine what is more important than the safety of you and your loved ones. That being said, I don't mind the bells and whistles... Is Volvo still the safest, or are pretty much all luxury sedans going to be top-notch in the safety department?

They're still safe, but that's more reputation right now. They just aren't top of the heap (plus they start at like $50k now, I have no idea why). According to the IIHS the three safest cars in America right now are (in no particular order) the Audi A4, the Acura RL, and the Saab 9-3. The 9-3 SportCombi is the safest wagon. That's actual why I bought the Saab...it's just a bonus that it's a sexy beast and begs for more harder you push it.

They do amazing work. If you are 4 hours from there when/if you want to get a serious tune http://www.kurganmotorsports.com/ bob does the best around. He will travel to shops to work out of. He also can get parts at really cheap rates that he wont mark up if you have him tune your car for the parts.

He came out to my garage to set up my tune on the cobra.

*edit I have to Thin the more I look at that pic the more I love that color scheme. Those rims are sexy.

Exhaust wont.
Intake might, but that is solved by just saving the old parts and putting them back on before service

Give him a month and about 1500 in mods and that MPG will be where it should be.

Low teens baby!

I second that color scheme. Its really classic and it sets it off from all the other mustangs I see around.

All the eyeballing I received on the way home from work was glorious.

The dopey chick in a late 90's Monte Carlo that wanted to race was much less so.

You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

Limo tint would look hot on those windows as well.

ZOMG AWESOME RIDE, ThinJ!

I love, love, loooooooove the current Mustang. Wasn't out when I bought my car, or I'd probably own one. I mention them so frequently on the road that Sigsbee has asked several times why I don't just get one.

Congratulations!
