Honestly I'm not looking forward to a lot of games right now. Bioshock article disappointed the sh*t out of me, and all the hype generated for that game went up and smoke. This game on the other hand, I am still very very excited about. new character looks so bad ass.
Yawn. If it's half as boring as the first I still won't play it. Besides great vistas, this one brought little to excite me to the table.
Unlike Bioshock, there's room for improvement on a second Assassin's Creed.
Assassin's Creed had a lot of failings, but it was a fantastic foundation to build a really great sequel on. Ubisoft is generally good about learning from past endeavours and improving series with each iteration. I'm quite excited about this one.
I wonder if this version will include a video game.
Bet you kill Machiavelli. Seems to fit the character of the game in that the assassin's don't seem to love totalitarians.

The Game Informer piece strongly implies Machiavelli will be one of your allies. He was a firm supporter of assassination, after all.
I'll reiterate that I'm super excited. Parts of the Ubisoft Montreal team feel like kindred spirits somehow--our sense of what's cool seems to jibe well.
I'm interested in this. The first one couldn't keep my interest untill the end but there were some very cool mechanics in there. My biggest hope is that they will make skippable cutscenes. Those were brutally long to have to watch again when it crashed. Also the combat was a bit mediocre. I also really hated that time machine like thingy and the fact that you needed to load about 5 different times before you could get to the game which was very silly. Come to think of it, there was a lot wrong with the game. But the assasination stuff made up for a whole lot.
You can swim, and no more pickpocketing or eavesdropping. Flags give you sh*t. I'm pretty sure they just fixed the game right there.

What he said.
btw, I've updated first post with some more wiki info on setting.

Probably tied with Infamous as my most anticipated game of the year so far. My only regret on the first one was waiting until the PC version came out instead of playing back in 2007. Within the first hour of play, it made the likes of Splinter Cell and Hitman horribly antiquated in their delivery, while also making what has got to be the most intuitive control scheme for platforming that I've ever experienced. I can't wait to see what they do this time around.
I liked the pickpocketing, though.

You should pick up Prototype too for the full hoodie trifecta.
I didn't hate Assassin's Creed. Maybe I avoided a lot of the hype by picking it up a full 6 months after release, but I wasn't expecting much and what I got was fairly entertaining. I think I've mentioned this before, but playing a few hours at a time rather than bombing through helps sidestep the unfortunate feeling of repetition in missions - just doing the same thing over and over.
I sure hope AC II manages to introduce some more novel and unique goals instead of 'pickpocket this guy, spy on that guy, save the civilians, and kill some dude'. Felt pretty homogeneous, which is a shame because the cultural differences between Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus should've provided ample opportunity to mix it up some.

Thanks a lot. Even though Hulu, like always, has nothing but big middle finger 'YOU CAN'T WATCH THIS' to all people who live abroad US.
Check out the tech forum. There is a workaround.

It's less evocative than the last one, but I always respond better to subtlety. Clearly the first one was for fans, and this is the one meant to hook new people.
I enjoyed the first game and am looking forward to playing this one. Hopefully it less time in the future than the previous game.
Yawn indeed. It'll have to be drastically different game to the first one for me to have any modicum of interest in it.
The first game was very odd, in that it had a terrible design, but that design was implemented fantastically. Couldn't fault the tech, but the game's structure was appalling.
Once bitten, twice shy.
I had a great time with the first. After reading the GI article I'm much more excited about the setting in two than I ever was in the first. Shot up to the to the top of my radar.
Just watching the Da Vinci code on the TV (TV premiere) and there's Assassin's Creed 2 adverts bracketing the advert break.... i was really surprised to see them so early in the year, i guess this is going to be a really big game sales-wise, they've got the advertising down pat and they've linked it with a popular movie. It's really smart.
So early? Whoa. It's still something like 7 months to release.
Yeah, that's what i thought. The key to getting big sales numbers has always been good marketing... but usually the game companies forget about marketing to the general public (mass market) until the last minute (about a month before release and another after - at least in my experience). That's why i'm impressed... it's indicative of warning people that the game's coming and to save up for it... also to build buzz too.
(btw: I never touched anything by Dan Brown but my dad says that this movie is record-breaker in making people asleep. He said that he can't remember anything beyond first fifteen minutes.)
Yeah, the movie started off pretty badly. The pacing/writing was all off during the first 20-30 minutes but it's getting more coherent as it's going on.

Hey it works! If I wasnt the man I was I'd kiss ya
For some reason I didn't play the first one until last week and, having just finished it, its great news to see the sequel coming up so fast. I really like the first game and looking forward to this one.

Yeah, I saw that. I thought it was clever. I've seen similar teasers on other programmes. Some of the historical scenes in Da Vinci code reminded me of cut scenes from AC1. They had that 'white washed and over exposed' look.
On a side note I enjoyed the film :). I started watching thinking I'd probably turn it of a few minutes in but it kept me interested. Good old Ron Howard.

Yeah, you pretty much mirrored my experience. I'm looking forward to Angels and Demons now... which i think is out pretty soon.
