GWJ Mule Buck Tournament - 3/18-4/2

Rules:

Tournament starts Sunday night, March 18th at 9:00pm EST and ends Monday morning, April 2nd at 12:00pm EST (for some Sunday night play).

The only requirement for entry is that you post your stats in the standard fashion.

Example:
Mule deer (M)
Score: 52.480
Weight: 82.286 kg (181.4 lbs)
Time of Harvest: 13 Feb 2012 01:12
Shots Hit: 1
Shot Distance: 210.250 m (689.8 ft)
Weapons Used: .243 Bolt Action Rifle (Wood)

For your entry to count it needs to be in the time frame listed above.

If it takes more than one shot to make the kill, only the shorter shot will be counted toward the tourney stats (though the longer shot will still be noted).

Each category (rack size/distance/weight) shall only have one winner, and the winner of one category is not eligible for subsequent categories in the following order: Rack size, Distance, Weight. (i.e., if you win Rack size, you can't win distance or weight, and if you win distance, you can't win weight).

There are two tournaments: Free-to-Play and Paid

To be eligible for Free-to-Play, you must only use the standard equipment. This includes the basic .243 bolt action rifle, the standard scope, standard binoculars, standard call, and standard smoke.

To enter into the Paid Tourney, you can use any weapon you choose.

I'll definitely check it out. I've seen a ton of different cheap-o hunting games marketed at people who don't play other video games. It sounds like this one's of higher quality and I've never experienced the realistic hunting gameplay style.

Free is good! I think I'm going to check this out, I'm a total sucker for methodical stalking games.

Sounds interesting. I think I'll try this one out over the weekend.

This is apparently developed by Avalanche (Just Cause) and is most likely running in the same engine, so I would expect a very high level of polish.

I really liked Just Cause, so what the hell, I'll check it out.

Here's a quick trailer of some of the game. As it says at the end, this is all in real time.

Once you get past the less-than-desirable looking website, the game will surprise you. As they say, don't judge a book by its front cover!

Huh, interesting. Never really played this kind of game before, but I'm certainly willing to give it a shot when I get home!

Wow the graphics look great! I'll definitely be checking it out later.

The character creation is fun. I picked the most foppish-looking dude I could find. I wanted to give him a vaguely offensive sounding name, but the game helpfully generated "Lyle Burgos" for me, which sounds like a character from Achewood.

I don't know how the friends system works, but if you guys figure it out before I do my nick is Podunk.

edit: also, their servers must be getting slammed. This download is agonizingly slow.

Like I said, the website is terrible and the character generator is pulling CGI photos from the FBI pedophile server.

The game gave me the name 'Roosevelt Cordero', which I immediately accepted. My gaming handle is Roozey and I'll add you later. Let me know what you think of the game.

Also, the download is only like 300MB, so it's not too bad.

It's bad when the launcher is reporting a download speed of 0.00 to 0.02 KiB/sec.

Haha, I suppose it's all relative. I think it took about 25 min for me.

Trust me though, it's worth the wait.

Well, the name generator gave me the name "Major Dye" which is kind of hard to say no to. My username is Certis, if that matters.

Just signed up, as MoonDragon. I'll d/l the game when I get home tonight.

Time *is* money to a guy like me.

A friend of a friend's name is 'Jesus Gore'. Whomever was in charge of the name generator deserves a medal of some sort.

That's just too awesome for words!

The game looks very well done. Strangely, I find myself wishing it were a realistic sniper sim rather than a hunting sim.

I thought the same thing as I was playing. Someone needs to clone this and put it in the new Modern Warfare or something. Human prey would be a bit more fun.

Heheh... they should allow for co-op play, but leave FF on. There would be a whole new influx of players, guaranteed.

Life, isn't a game, sir.

I am going to methodically stalk the he'll out of you, garrion.

I've been pulling this down for a while too. I've seen the speed spike as high as 20Kib/sec, but usually it's less than one. Reminds me of the Steam during the UT3 sale a few weeks ago.
I'm eager to try it out if it ever downloads.

Let me get this straight... you want me to kill Bambi's mom?

YEP! Another reason I'll be trying this game

Can you play as the animals? I want to be a redneck killing grizzly bear.

Awesome.

The downloader seems to be some kind of P2P thing. It seems to go a little faster if you cap the upload rate to something reasonable. It keeps it from typing up your connection as much as well.

Winner. Go to the settings and throttle the upload, makes a big difference.

I have absolutely no interest in hunting or hunting games in general (why is it that shooting animals bothers me more than shooting people?), but this looks interesting. I am Anodyne, AKA "Rosario Tompkins." I have mutton chops and an enormous forehead.

How outlandish can the creations be? (You have shown some excellent human examples, but can a person go a bit more exotic?)

The system can create whatever we allow it to. At present we've purposely restricted our data to produce "good looking" individuals, but we'll add more variety as time goes by.

It makes a different but this thing is still downloading at a snails pace. At present, my wait appears to be about 2 days. Haven't had to wait that long for a game to download since 1996.
