Sunday Night Planetside

Gaald, Elysium and myself plan to play some Planetside at 7PM CST. We will be using the in-game chat so you can send a direct message to join our squad (and our outfit, come to think of it) in-game!

Our game names are the same as our forum names so look for us on the Markov server with the Vanu team!

Yay!

Man am I a sh*tty Reaver Pilot!

Oh I can fly with the best of them dodging through trees. I cannot hit anything with my guns. The best I have done is chase another Reaver away that was trying to peg one of our Galaxies.

I think Im better suited on the ground. Either in a MAX or as a Gunner.

So if any of you is a buggy driver or Magrider or Sunderer driver I''ll pair up with ya.

See ya as Nerhyn! I couldnt find MrSway on earlier.

Servers appear to have gone down for a brief patch. Rejoin around 8:30 CST

That could have been better...

Worst lag Ive ever been in.

I can just about echo everyone of Gaald''s swears.

The not being able to reload really sucked when you are getting wasted by a peon when you''s suited up in a MAX.

Eshmir has been good to me as far as lag goes...

I was enjoying my time even though I didnt actually get to kill anybody. I did shoot at someone though, it was pretty neat.

Lag may have been related to patch. We''ll see in a bit.

Hopefully the patch will fix this all up! We will be trying in about Half an hour!

You know I never get sick of people asking for SOW or where the monsters are. I cracks me up everytime!

Should we start new chars and go thru the vr training for the newb''s?

That way we can get some engineers and vehicles too. Combat engineers kick ass. Ive got to test out the turrets you can create.

Going through VR training is definately worth it. When you use all the weapons/vehicles in the training you get enough experience to be level 3.

Ok that wasnt as good as we could have hoped but I did manage to pick up some steam getting stealth kills at the end.

I think the lesson learned is you do not want to be standard infantry. You either need to specialize in assault weaponry, or be an engineer, medic or pilot some vehicle. Or get MAX cert or stealth.

If your just some guy with a shotgun you are going to be fodder. You have no strengths against anyone including other infantry.

Other than that I dont know what was up with the lag. I wonder if voice chat was causing some of it. I also wonder if the big battles I was in before were the only big battles in the area. So lag was fine. And maybe, since it seemed our whole continent was swarming with people and big battles were everywhere, that caused frame rates to plummet.

I hope we have another go sometime, I''d like to be in a whole squad thats stealthed. I got worked to 10 hp then ran away only to sneak up on some crouched guy and perform a military execution!

EDIT: I apologize for blaming Gaald for running me over. I was stealthed on my wraith at the start of a bridge. It only caused minor damage to my vehicle =P

I''m aching to love this game. I''m begging to love this game. I''m dying to love this game. I''m calling it up at inappropriate hours and asking it to love me back, but its all doing its hair or has a headache. C''mon baby, why you always got to be slow? Why can''t you be sleek and fast, why you got to lag like that on me? I just want a little something to tide me over. Why you always got to be hurtin'' me baby?

If the game that boasts ""hundreds of players in battles"" can''t handle more than 40 players in an area you can bet I won''t be buying this game. It is completely unacceptable and impossible to work around right now.

Oh I would also like to add that it was nice and kinda strange listening to voice chat.

It was kinda like being reintroduced to you all again.

I will never forget being in the top spot on the Galaxy typing,"" to the MOOON!!!"" and having Gaald promptly aim the transport straight up as high as it would go towards the moon.

Well Gaald''s landing mishap was pretty funny too. And he shot me for saying,""Hail!""

Now that I think about it, there was a lot of comic relief coming from that crazy Canuck.

I think next time we say screw you in game chat and try teamspeak or GV, I think some of those really bad lag moments were due to the in game voice. I have never seen the lag so bad in this game.

Yes, listening to Gaald could be a game unto itself. I don''t know how much I care for the in-game voice software. Certainly not as stable or reliable as Teamspeak or even Gamevoice. Admittedly, though, its still a very new addition and will hopefully be tweaked some as the months go by.

For those of you who don''t participate in voice chat, here''s what you''d here.

- Gaald screams an obscenity.
- Certis encourages or goads Gaald in some way to either shout more obscenities or do something that irritates me.
- Gaald usually follows Certis'' lead and begins to do something humorously annoying.
- Pyroman laughs
- I grumble much to Gaald and Certis'' satisfaction.
- I make a vaguely threatening statement to either Gaald or Certis, usually promising to shoot them the next time I see them, though I very rarely actually do this.
- Certis tells me hate is so close to love, and creeps the bejesus out of everyone.
- Pyroman laughs.
- Sway says something in his baritone voice, and we all sit quietly and listen to it thoughtfully as if it is a command from on high.
- Gaald shouts a new barrage of obscenities
- Pyroman laughs

Oh my! I''m veclempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I''ll give you a topic. Fangboneblack, niether pointy or a bone.

Am I a clown? Do I amuse you?

Thanks Fang I always have a blast playing with you guys!

Good lord, before you know it I have to thank Elysium to. It''s always fun when Elysium is on.

If you haven''t noticed, I enjoy random obscenities. Alot.

I''m so amused by Gaald''s tirades because it''s like the videogame equivalent of Memento. He has been slaughtered in the exact same manner any number of times, yet he seems surprised each and every time. I also laugh because I know it''s coming. Since you can watch the health of any member of your squad, I brace myself every time I see his little life bar extinguish. I know we are about to be treated to a swearstorm of indignance directed toward a foe who cannot even hear him. Following is an example of this and my favorite last night, edited for public forum posting:

""I HATE YOUR [fornicating] GUNS!""

I think this effect is caused by my insistence upon using Push-To-Talk whenever I use voice. You don''t really get a handle on someone''s gaming personality unless you hear the incessant chatter. You all certainly don''t spare us from that now, do you? In your unselfish act of broadcasting everything that slips out of your subconscious, we are presented with an intimate portrait of your true selves.

Since I have to actually press a button to allow myself to be heard, I feel some pressure to say something intelligible. Next time we play I will play voice-activated and I feel confident you will have new insights into my character.

Comments I have thus far prevented from making public:

""Oh, chocolate chip cookie, you make me whole.""
""Ow! My bum.""
""Honey, can you take my contacts out for me? I don''t want to miss anything.""
""Fwoar...what did I eat?""
""*whimper* *sob*""
""I wonder if these guys realize I have no idea what I''m doing.""

Man, sounds like fun. Anyone know when the Beta ends? I thought it was May 14h.
Unfortunately my 3d card decided to give me problems this weekend, I''m not sure if I''ll have to replace it... Oh well...

Damnit! Had I known I would have met up with ya''ll.

You usually give a few days notice.

Anycrap, I think alot of the lag had to do with the the servers being run in some kind of debug mode or something that allows the crash logs to be complete. I admit there was a great deal of lag on Sunday afternoon, but usually its not that bad.

I never use the in-game voice. We use Team Speak and it works like a charm.

He admitted it! Turn in your Planetside fanboy gaming badge immediately. A true fan would gloss over an issue like and that huff some paint until he believed it never even happened.

Seriously though, the lag could have been due to the large influx of new gamers joining the beta now that it''s wide open. They should be past running a debugger by now.

This was posted about 11:30PM CST last night by TwistPS

Those experiencing lower than normal framerate tonight, be aware that the client is currently running partially debug so we can gather crash reports. We''ll post a regular optimized client tomorrow.

Never argue facts with an informed Fanboi!

They are still trying to squash some ctd bugs and a few memory leak issues. Not in tip-top form yet, but already miles ahead of Anarchy On-line and WWIIOL at release.

Oh my God. I had forgotten how bad Anarchy Online''s framerate were on realease. Certis and I were talking about this last night as well, though, and the situation is a bit more dire for Planetside. The fact of the matter is that framerate troubles aren''t as critical for Anarchy Online as they are for a FPS designed for epic battles and quick reflexes. Low framerates at release will kill this game sure as dead.

Still, it''s a bit encouraging to hear that there was debugging going on. Sorry you couldn''t join us Yomm, it was a last minute decision. Certis and I decided to play, and thought it might be nice to post on the forums. We''ll try and get you next time.
