Offical release day!
I was just thinking today that we should have a beta night soon. I''ve been trying to dig into this game a bit, and it''s been increasingly fun (outside the occasional and unpleasant CTDs). I was thinking more next week, before the beta ends, but after they''ve had a chance to tighten it a bit more. Anyone interested?

Well I just got my disks in the mail yesterday, I suppose I could manage it!

Oh, I wasn''t accepted into the beta. Wonder why... I''ll still buy it if you guys think it''s a great game, but I''d like to see a demo or something first.
Come play Team Fortress 2 with GWJers! Server: 126.96.36.199:27015
7-8pm central, Mondays & Fridays, bring chicken wings
they are doing a character wipe most likely today (or tomorrow) so now''s a good chance to get in.
As for next week, just give me a time and server, I''ll be there, and I''ll be more then happy to help anyone out with the game.
As for the ctd''s, SoE has just recently added a log they ask you to mail them everytime you crash. I''ve been really impressed with their patches (and Certis, don''t be surprised that the patch catch up you have to do will take awhile). I think they''ve been really good at catching stuff and making fixes....but I hope they get some memory leaks and lag issues finalized before it goes gold.
IF you like multi-player team shooters and
IF you can/will play in teams (squads) and
IF you insist on using some strategy rather than just gunning it
then I think you''ll really enjoy it. This is NOT a solo type game, you can try it, but you''ll get owned.
I''ve stated my own bias before and given that, this is the first time I''ve been really excited about a game thats exceeded my expectations. Planetside is one of the best computer games I''ve ever played.
Also, Mex, if you''re a fileplanet subscriber you can download the beta from there and participate. I don''t have a solid opinion yet on the game, but the more I play, the more I like it.
www.planetside.com is now up. Good for information and so on.....
I really wish they''d tell us what the subscription price will be. This looks interesting enough that I was thinking of playing, but not if it''s $15 a month or something like that. Under $10, and I''d think about it.

Apparently file planet has now opened this game up for anyone to download and try out. Have fun!

Yep, with a painful 1.1 gig download. Sheesh!
I guess I''ll have it in a couple of days. I''m not sure I should even try, I mean, fileplanet usually cuts me off at some point, and I''m not sure they have integrated a ""resume download"" option...
After 6 weeks of beta testing I have had my ups and downs with Planetside. But as of right now I will not be buying it and probably won''t log into beta anymore. There is just not enough in the game to warrant paying 12.95 a month.
Also, with each new patch they add new problems. I have confidence they will fix it all though. But I already get the ""EQ patch"" feel with them making BRs a lot harder to get. There won''t be any BR 20 players for some time.

That depends 100% on the squads you are with. Since now, BEP (battle experiance points) are continent wide, you get points for every kill anyone in your squad gets so long as you are on the same land mass. If someone from your squad is near an enmy base, you''ll get points for that as well, wherever you are.
If you aren''t in a good squad then yeah, it''ll be a long road. Within 2 days I went from 1 to 7 without working at it. I think they''ll be alot more BR 20 players sooner then you think.
Regardless of the exp gains currently (which is slower than 6 weeks ago) there will be more patches to slow it down but that honestly doesn''t bother me in the end. The game is why I won''t buy it. Just my opinion. I really wish it had more depth. I will be waiting until SmokeJumper makes his annoucement with new planned features before I completely write it off.
