Bioshock 2 Catch-All

I'm going to irresponsibly drop this thing in here so if it turns out to be true I can say I called it.

You're playing as either the Big Sister or Little Sister, and both when in coop.

Hot sister on sister action?

This game could sell a few copies!

Real details? You might have been warned.

I was just coming to post this. Here's the meat and bullet-points:

Bioshock 2 Spoilers? wrote:

The sequel has players assuming control of "the first ever" Big Daddy, according to creative director Jordan Thomas. Players will be armed with a drill, and will also be able to upgrade their weapons and various plasmids.

As you liberate Little Sisters from other Big Daddies, you'll be able to either Harvest or Adopt them. Adoption apparently lets players escort a Little Sister around levels, fighting off splicers as the Little Sister harvests the all-powerful Adam from corpses.

The information surfaced over at the GameSpot Forums, and was backed up by blurry pictures of the article. The posters there and at NeoGAF also a provided wealth of other not-yet-verified details, apparently coming from the same source as the pictures.

Those unconfirmed details are listed below. Shacknews can confirm the validity of the above information, but can't yet say the same for any of the following points:

 • The game is set 10 years after the first BioShock.
 • There will be a multiplayer mode, but no details were given.
 • The Big Sister is a grown-up Little Sister, and she's hunting you.
 • Some levels take place on the sea floor outside of Rapture.
 • The Big Sister will periodically pop up after you kill enough Big Daddies. Her arrival is apparently signaled by a Little Sister singing a song.
 • The Big Sister is described as fast and "the hardest thing in the game." She'll utilize telekinesis to throw objects at you or use them as shields.
 • Your drill overheats, and cannot be used constantly.
 • As a Big Daddy, you'll be able to do that nifty shoulder bash move.
 • Upgrade trees are now more diverse.
 • The Incinerate plasmid allows you to throw a fireball or shoot a stream of fire, depending on upgrades.
 • Using Incinerate on a Cyclone Trap will result in a flaming trap.
 • You can now heal damaged turrets and bots.
 • The game will reveal how Adam is recovered from Little Sisters.

Alright, I half-a-quarter-called it.

I have to say i'm not that excited about that major plot point in the spoilers...

Amen.

Seems like a contradiction in there:

So what were they in the first one then?

That second thing in the spoiler quote is just speculation from the internet - not from the article.

Why is that a contradiction?

That sounds silly to me.

Why would a Big Daddy be fighting other Big Daddies to harvest Little Sisters, especially if they only intended to "adopt" them? And wouldn't that be EXCEEDINGLY boring, nothing but one long escort mission that you cannot fail, as the thing you're escorting is invulnerable?

It all sounds like way too much specific information and too big a reveal to be true. Maybe they're trying to mask true leaked info with a smokescreen of BS?

This info sounds like a bunch of bullsh*t. Two weeks later, and I'd take it for an April Fools joke.

It sounds like a smokescreen, but if it is from an actual interview with the creative director? Now I'm worried, the first rumors were better.

Did you see the magazine pics? Unless someone managed to photoshop and print (in magazine quality) a bioshock 2 story then i'm guessing that the two bits of info from the magazine are correct... the rest is just crap until confirmed though.

Fair point. Turns out hangovers aren't great for higher brain functions... who'da thunk it?

If half of that is true i don't want to play the game.... it's almost the equivalent of Han shoots second (with regards to my expectations of a sequel).

I think there might be some information lost.... i think that perhaps 'the first big daddy' means Jack (i.e. the player in Bioshock) otherwise why would a big daddy be able to use plasmids and be renegade?

Also, why are there still so many people down in Rapture? They should all be well dead after 10+ years of having no new supplies being sent to them....

Soooooooooooo...which ending from BioShock is the one that BioShock 2 is going off of?

Can we go back to the rumors with the Soviets again? That sounded better than this.

Yeah, it's... meh. It does address the character from the first game and clarifies that he is not the character in the second game, if you put on your Blurry Vision and squint at the text.

It also indicates that...

spoiler wrote:

The Big Sister is a Little Sister who grew up and is now capturing other girls and bringing them back to Rapture. Some of the phrasing seems to indicate that she was one that escaped with Jack. Also that she is the primary antagonist, so apparently the first reveal of substance they gave us was the end boss. Great. I hope they make it really obvious right from the beginning that this is the case, otherwise they pretty much spoiled the game for their entire audience without them even knowing it.

And they're changing the art style to make the Little Sisters look less creepy. Wonderful. Can we get Ken Levine to comment on all this since they seem to be crapping all over some of the best design decisions from the first game?

Why? No matter what his feelings, he'll give a standard PR line about how he's "looking forward to the future of the franchise". Even if he hates it, he doesn't seem like the David Jaffe type of designer to me who would vent about the company that owns his studio.

Oh, man. What do you want to bet that someone from GI leaked those first rumors to move a few more issues?

I wouldn't want to bet too much money against it, that's for sure

So many rumours and random conjectured info going around right now, I'm just going to sit back and wait until we hear something official.

Bioshock was a great game that did not need a sequel. The whole concept of the 10+ years later thing just doesn't smack me the right way. I'll reserve judgement until I see the final game, but if they're putting info out there for me to digest, I'll digest it however I want!

I still think my favorite "Bioshock 2" concept would have been a prequel set as Rapture was falling, and you would play as one dude just trying to get out, having to make difficult moral choices along the way. But, you know. Big Sisters et al. Whatever.

I hope we aren't forced to view everything through that rotten port hole view. I've already gone ahead and planned for this to be a let down. The first one was just too good in terms of atmosphere and story arc.

I'm sure you won't. Since you're the *, you're superior to all others in every way. They'll probably let you move a lot quicker, too.

Why are people hiding their posts when this is all supposition at this point? It's impossible to spoil anything because we don't really know what said thing is yet.

To protect the dreams of the naive?

What are the rules for this, Certis? Can we spoil things in a speculation thread? Also, can we spoil Bioshock in the thread for its sequel?

Not all of it is supposition unless those magazine scans were somehow faked -and they don't look fake to me.

ust got that Game Informer in the mail today. I will check out the article when I get home.

Got my new GI on Saturday, the info posted by adam.greenbrier is spot on. I really enjoyed the first Bio-Shock, after reading about the sequel I am left feeling kinda "meh" about it.
