Now with more coop!

What's wrong with the other RE5 thread?

Indeed, what's wrong with the previous thread?

Where did we stop? Ah yes, RE6 in Mexico, yes! Zombie hombres = zombres!

It had a question mark after "catch-all" making it a question of whether or not it was a real catch-all thread.

In reality, it probably had to do with the thread being loaded with speculation but no impressions of the actual released game.

Edit: Will be picking up my game at lunch time, too bad I will have to work for another 5 hours with it sitting in my car.

Mine is due this afternoon from Amazon + free release day shipping. Sweeeet.

I never got around to actually playing the demo, I think Left4Dead really stopped my demo exploration like a mid-air hunter stopped by a shotgun butt (I hope that's the right kind of butt...).

I'm also expecting my replacement modem from AT&T today (w00t). More than a week without the Internet at home has proven agonizing (thank goodness half of it was spent on vacation in Vegas).

Tonight, I dine on Las Plagas!

Picking up game in 2 hours.. can't sleep. zombies will eat me.

Picked up one of the limited edition consoles today. My existing (launch, already repaired once) 360 is starting to give me issues, and this way I get an HDMI port, the 120GB drive, and RE5 for the regular cost of an elite.

Whee.

I'm thinking I'm going to hold off on this until the PC version is out, so that I can see if they do anything with mouse-keyboard controls along the lines of the wii version of resi4 (which was brilliant).

I don't hold out much hope...the PC conversion of Resi4 was horrible.

I might yet be convinced in grabbing it now though if it turns out it's worth battling through the controls for...

Whoa. Are the RE5 limited edition consoles already in the stores? My BestBuy advertises them for next week.

Probably they want to have a run on the individual $59.99 game sales, AND THEN put the console on the shelves and make hardcore fans buy the game again, as they're shelling out cash for the sexy bundle.

Yes, but that was because it was a quick and dirty port by Ubisoft. Capcom games now tend to be built on their proprietary engine specifically designed to be more easily transferable to other systems, which is why the PC versions of Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4 were pretty decent. If they're anything to go by, the PC version of RE5 may not have great keyboard and mouse controls but will definetely be the better looking and smoother running one.

I still pre-ordered the 360 version, though.

Yah, my local Best Buy had several.

The website should be able to tell you if they're available for local store pickup.

Certis likes new threads on release day because the pre-release threads have accumulated so much baggage (speculation, previews, pre-release interviews, stuff like that) by the time the game comes out that no newcomer wants to wade through them to figure out where discussion of actual play begins.

Quintin is both smart and attractive.

I've thought about it since I've got $30 on my EDGE card and Halo Wars to trade in, but the demo unsold me. This along, with HAWX, is going into the rental pile though.

I did not play the demo, but for the 2 hours that I've played so far, I think it's a fantastic game. Resident Evil has always been my favorite game series, and I had faith that Capcom would deliver a quality product without needing to try the demo. Besides, I thought that the demo would skew my perceptions of the game before playing the full version.

I tried the type A controls (RE 4 style) and they were terrible for RE5! They definitely fine tuned the game for type D, although there is a bit of a learning curve to it before you can fully appreciate it.

So far it seems like they abandoned the puzzle solving aspect of classic RE in favor of a more action oriented game, moreso than RE4. The creepy mood and tension are still there, so it's not like this game doesn't have atmosphere.

If you're planning on buying this game either today or tomorrow, try getting it from Toys R Us. I got a $20 Toys R Us gift card from them with the purchase of the game.

Toys'R'Us are selling RE5?!
As Elmer Fudd would say, iwwn't wwat wondefuw.

Capcom sets land speed record for DLC?

"Versus" Brings New Online Gameplay Excitement To Resident EvilTM 5 Via Digital Download

Additional Mode Adds A New, Deadly Twist To RE5 Multiplayer Gameplay

Tired of working together with other players in Resident Evil™ 5? Ready to show your co-op partner exactly what you think of their gaming abilities? Capcom is pleased to announce that a new multiplayer mode for the soon-to-be blockbuster, Resident Evil 5, will be released post-launch as paid digital content via Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. The new mode, called ‘Versus,’ adds a deadly twist to Resident Evil 5’s multiplayer, pitting players against each other in a contest of survival, a marked departure from the central co-operative nature of the game.

Versus allows up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

Versus will be available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network a few weeks after Resident Evil 5 is available. Versus will be available for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $3.99 on the PlayStation Network. Versus mode requires the Resident Evil game software in order to be played. A broadband internet connection is required.

The PSN price is really 4.99, though.

Wow, first it was the SF4 costume packs, and now this? How much does development really cost that they have to do this to their hardcore fans? I'm not interested in this multiplayer mode though, but maybe if they'll come out with survival mode maps or new weapons and such that I'd be interested.

Development costs are extremely high, but I'm not convinced this is why we're seeing a rash of release-day (or very nearly) DLC. I suspect this is, at least in part, to combat reselling/renting of games. If you buy DLC, it's much less appealing to resell/rent titles.

Personally, I have no problem with DLC of any kind as long as it's reasonably priced. I've bought 2 of the SF4 costume packs, and if this multiplayer mode turns out to be fun, I'll consider spending $5 on it. I agree it's not as tempting with the lack of new maps, costumes, etc., but we'll see.

4 player co-op?

I don't think they mean what I am hoping they mean.

I'm pretty sure they don't sadly.

One of the Vs. modes is 2v2 teams, so I think that's what they are referring to when they say "4-player co-op".

I hate to say it, but I'd pay 5 dollars for 4 player RE Horde.

This DLC can fly off.

"they claim that the price covers development of the new features which go "above and beyond the initial scope" of the game, as well as bandwidth costs associated with implementing additional online multiplayer offerings."

Um.. I'm pretty sure the game uses peer to peer multi-player so I don't see any cost to Capcom there. Its a BS move. Good thing the versus muti-player looks about as fun as "The Darkness" multi-player (which is no fun at all.) Hopefully no one will buy it.

Another satisfied customer.

I'm pretty torn wether or not to get this. I could use a new game to play, but I haven't even played through more than 10% of RE4 (for a handful of reasons.) The co-op aspect really doesn't tickle me in any way either, so I think I can safely hold this off for a price drop.

I'm a little ways into it so far, and I am really liking it. A whole lot. I'm a little surpised at the resource management, though. They took RE4's briefcase and kind of spread it between both players, so now you have to stop and trade items back and forth so that each has what they need and you have room to pick up new things. And you do it a lot.

I was not a fan of the controls in the demo, but after a little while I've gotten comfortable with them, and I can appreciate why they didn't copy Gears. And it looks flat-out amazing.

Here's a tip for anyone who doesn't know. If you're playing on 360 dump the game to the hard drive. It speeds up the loading significantly and you don't have to listen to the 360 for hours on end of course

I just finished chapter 2-3. The first hour or so is somewhat nerve wracking but it tosses all that aside for straight up action. Most of the time it feels like the intensity of RE4 is missing. The inventory system is okay for the most part. I hate not having the option to use herbs or first aid spray off the ground like you could in RE4 which is a problem with such a small inventory setup. I also miss type writers for saving due to my RE fanboyism and lack of merchants just pulls me right out of the game. Where the heck are they getting weapons from in the middle of an African savana on the back of a hummer? Even so though, the game is a ton of fun and worth checking out for RE4 fans and fans of frantic action games.

Playing with RE4 controlls fyi.

Anyone figured out how to play online co-op on the PS3?
