Bioshock 2 Catch-All

If you're going to play that card then ANY game or activity EVER is about humanity.

Very well, I can get specific. We know there's a giant squid, but nothing of the context. Is it spliced? Is it agitated by Rapture's very existence? These may be trite and cliche, but the effect of humans on the environment is a very human story, isn't it?

So it sounds like the "more of the same" formula but no doubt refined.

While obviously it's better to get something bold and new, the realist in me knows that doesn't just happen, so I'll admit "more of the same, refined" is very comforting. It's not pretty, but it's true.

Fair enough. Sorry if I'm being needlessly crabby about the whole thing. Except Lobster. I'm not apologizing to that guy.

Yes, I know. I was trying to be vague.

Maybe there should be an underwater football game, too, since what's more human than the desire to best others?

I'm not saying they can't come up with a reason for there to be a angry giant squid there, I'm just saying that what was so moving about the first game was it questioned the definition of humanity, and if it's possible through action or through the mind for a man to become more or less than human.

There was an element of battling nature as well as the ocean slowly consumed Rapture but it was not something you could dominate or kill... it was an inevitability.

I'm feeling a bit crabby about it too! *rimshot*

To continue playing Devil's advocate, I suppose they have to take it in a direction that's different that BioShock, simply because if they did essentially drop a new player character in the exact same environment (Big Daddies and splicers), everyone would be screaming copy cat. Still, I'm a little wary about what's been said; it's one thing to be different, but for it to be a sequel, then it can't lose what made BioShock special.

Yay, co-op.

(Psst, that it has co-op is not a spoiler.)

Is co-op just for 360 or for PC as well? Plenty of co-op games on 360 haven't transferred this feature over to the PC.... oh, God... please don't tell me that Bioshock 2 is 360/PS3 only!

:/

Blitzball? Ugh. No thanks.

I'm just saying that what was so moving about the first game was it questioned the definition of humanity, and if it's possible through action or through the mind for a man to become more or less than human.

I didn't get that theme as much as I got a study of the things we do to each other and ourselves, they ways we justify exploitation in the name of progress and survival. A little sprinkling of a past generation's triumph becoming a crushing problem the next generation needs to defeat strikes me as a fundamentally human theme--I don't need to cite an example, it's right outside your window.

My main point is, I don't think Giant Squid is a sure sign they've abandoned the previous game's concerns. When they reveal the alien invasion of Rapture, we'll be on the same page.

Huh. Cool.

Hmm.. That link denies the rumors then repeats all of them again. Way to clear things up.

Anyway, the daily update has hit the Something in the Sea site. Looks like US Naval Intelligence is involved and finally listening to the author of all the notes.

Is this a stand-up fight or a bug hunt?

So... anyone try calling Esther George at 609-394-5438?

I'm not doing it. I don't even call people I know.

I called it.. it just rings and rings and rings.. could be someone I once dated.

Long time lurker, hi everyone...

Just noticed on the new something in the sea update:

Innsmouth, RI

i saw that and it made me smile, I'm wondering if it points to a different inspiration for this one, lovecraft. Part of me doesn't think it would fit with bioshock though, as it would involve the supernatural and was set in the 20s, where as bioshock is steampunk/sci-fi themed.

Or am I reading too deeply into one little detail?

Well, coming in cold I put Innsmouth, RI, into Google and returned an immediate result referencing merbeings. That certainly fits in with the theme of Rapture and what might happen to some splicers in areas of the city that became submerged.

Being under water fills me with panic. Being underwater with swift and acclimated predators makes me look forward to even more stressful situations in Bioshock.

The entire viral site has been giving off a Lovecraft vibe, with it's slowly maddening individual investigating the truth even as it clearly draws him closer to insanity.

Maybe they finally took the damn phone off the hook and are using their cell phone to call their lawyer.

I didn't get any answer. According to a really quick reverse lookup, it's an unlisted number in Trenton, NJ. The address and current owner's name are available for a fee.
