Castle Catch All.

Did I miss this topic someplace? Nathan Fillion is a favorite of mine so I'll be watching just to see him be a wise ass. Looks like they may have tailored the show to his brand of delivery.

On ABC Monday nights at 10. Starts March 9th

The motte-and-bailey style is so passé. Way overdone. But at least they're less pretentious than neo-romantic revival-era "castles."

Sigh. Damn you Nathan Fillion for making me watch a show with commercials that make it look so bland.

The hammer is his... well, you guys know.

LOVE this show. I don't care about the plot. I could watch the 2 main characters go back and forth for the entire hour.

Not nearly as bad as I was worried it would be. It's almost like they crafted the commercials to deliberately torpedo it.

Rats. I see it not on Hulu.

First twenty minutes were painfully bad as the writers introduced stock characters with horrible dialog, but the last 20 minutes were much better. Nathan Fillion makes the show - if he wasn't on board I wouldn't have made it past the opening party scene I don't think.

It's interesting to see that while a lot of people are watching Dollhouse in spite of Dushku, I'm betting a lot of people will watch Castle because of Fillion.

This show sucks. Nathan Fillion is totally awesome, and his back and forth with his daughter is entertaining, but everything else just fell flat. Normally, I give a show I'm interested in about 3 or 4 episodes to prove its worth, but I will not be back for the second episode of this. The biggest offender being the scene where Castle figures out that the reason the "sexy female detective" became a detective is because something bad happened to someone she cared about in her past. It's such a goddamn cliché. A better show, like, say, House, would've had Castle been totally wrong.

Also, I totally want Castle to appear on an episode of House. He tries to figure House out and is totally wrong along the way, but eventually maybe he does figure something out and we learn just a tiny bit more about the enigmatic House. Meanwhile, House tries to figure out what's wrong with Castle and keeps getting it wrong, but then something seems to be working and everyone thinks the case is solved, but then it isn't, but then House figures it out when Wilson says something in a completely unrelated conversation that sparks an idea in House's head and House swoops in with the winning diagnoses and everyone goes home happy. Tune in next week for the same exact thing!

I started to like the show better once the crime was solved and everything was taken care of, but then Castle had to go and screw it all up again by realizing the crime wasn't solved after-all because that wouldn't be interesting to read. Come the f*ck on. And then he just solves the mystery better than the detective could, never getting anything wrong along the way? And if she's such a big fan of Castle, why is she so openly hostile towards him right from the very beginning? Just because they need a "strong independent female character"? Your character can still be strong and independent if she goes out on a date with her favorite frigging author!

F*ck you, Castle. F*ck you sideways.

For me this is because Fillion is fun when he's being a wise ass and is enjoyable to watch. Dushku is just a droopy eyed woman reciting her lines. I can see Fillion enjoying himself. Dushku is jsut a robot.

I loved the first episode. Double for being able to watch Fillion just make wisecracks for an hour.

[color=white]If the assumption is that every episode is going to be some deriviative of "that crime is too easy to solve, let me use my author skills to figure out the secret level of complexity," I'll totally buy it under the assumption that the writer / director is intentionally breaking the fourth wall.

Castle: "there's no way the creator of this crime dramedy I'm in would let the show end at 10:41. There's gotta be more. I'll ask my think tank of entertainers for help figuring out the plot of my own show."

It's such a hilarious hook. Loving it.

[edit] spoiler tags.

A sexy, sexy robot.

I believe the word you're looking for is "Cylon."

Dushku is a Skinjob.

Lukewarm on both Dollhouse and Castle. I'm sticking with Dollhouse just because it's directly tied to Whedon (and because of the talk that it will improve). Any other Whedon-esque connections for Castle besides our BDH Fillion?

MechaSlinky, you're my hero.

Briefly misread the thread title as "Certis Catch All."

I watched it. Since so many people want to compare it to Dollhouse I have to say the pilot for Castle is a lot more fun. Unlike Dollhouse where I was watching for some hint of the usual Joss story, I was just entertained by Castle. And maybe it is because I don't have a lot of time to watch TV, but when I do watch I want to be entertained. I don't want to have to wait 6 episodes (or whatever the current spin is on when Dollhouse actually takes off).

I'm giving it 3-4 episodes to spin up, but so far I am very "meh" on it.

Careful, say anything too negative and he'll just swoop in and lock this thread.

Like Farley, I thought it was a fun ride. Sure the male/female cop drama is just about played out, but this adds its own twist and if the daughter/mother dynamic gets built on I could see it becoming something that can stand on its own.

You should read some of his crazy awesome text chats.

I'll admit to laughing when he says "Apples" in the hotdog scene.

That was definitely hilarious. Fillion made me laugh more than once in the first episode so I will give it a few more at least.

They call that a callback in comedy. I laughed too.

My usual immediate response would be to blow this off with some sort of silly joke, as I've never been good at handling people saying nice things about me, but I'm going to forcibly go against my own nature and say that I really appreciate the nice words and don't even care that you're both being facetious assholes.

Addition:
"You could've gotten yourself killed!"
"The safety was on the whole time."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
BECAUSE THEN THE GUY WITH THE GUN WOULD'VE KNOWN ABOUT IT, YOU STUPID C***! And is there a single person on this stupid sh*t-hat planet short of the mentally tardlicious that didn't see that "joke" coming from the goddamn moon?

F*ck you, Castle. F*ck you running.

Uhhhhhhhhh, I accept the gift of your body's water and the spirit in which it was given?

Finger in the butt.

Fixed that for you. We have standards here at GWJ, you know.

I do not subscribe to your short-cutting ways. I speak in full sentences, thank you very much. Anus!

I'd just like to point out that while the second episode wasn't a wild improvement, it was just as fun and I think I'm going to keep watching this.
