Turn on the news to any of 24hr news channels. The people of Iraq are risiing up.
Uh no, not really. Are you referring to the bunch who are now trying to smash that Hussein statue? Many of them also were eager to cheer at the regime whenever the Iraqi TV was around. Sure, some people - especially in the poor regions of Saddam City - are happy to see the US army around now, but you''re pretty naive if some TV reports on cheering people are an indicator that ""people of Iraq"" are rising up.
I dunno man, those folks look pretty thrilled at tearing that thing down.
There may not be an ''uprising'' per say, but I think its all but over, and I wouldn''t imagine our troops are going to face any ''serious'' opposition.
Not at least until the ''rebuilding'' phase starts....
And once they realized that the oil companies are going to loot their wealth almost as bad as Saddam did.
I like the ""Go home US Wankers"" sign that a couple of Iraqi''s were parading around earlier. The ironic thing is that the message was spray painted on an old ""Human Shield"" banner.
I just find the word, ''wankers'' amusing.
lol, ''wankers'' is an amusing word.
I wonder if they even know what the sign says?
You''re basing this on...what?
Nigeria?
America?
Really? How much did you pay to fill up your car this week? If that isn''t stealing your wealth, I don''t know what is.

Actually as a matter of interest how much is petrol currently in the US and Canada these days? as here in the UK it''s currently about the equivalent of (US) $1.60 per litre.
WORST....PETROL TAX....EVER!
That all remains to be seen. Somebody gets to rebuild all those oil wells. Then companies start bidding for the rights to harvest it. Then there''s contracts for shipping it overseas. And since there''ll be only American and British companies bidding for it, don''t be surprised if the flags of Exxon/Mobile, Shell, and Chevron start flying over Iraq in the months to come.
Then I guess Shell doesn''t, either, otherwise they wouldn''t practically own the Nigerian government.
Hey I like the Shell thing, prevents anyone from pumping money in the German and French economies while we dutchies (with Shell being an Anglo-DUTCH corporation) with our ''political support'' to the coalition of the willing reap the benefits! 8)
gasoline (petrol) reached a peak of $2.09 for a gallon of regular unleaded and $2.29 for premium unleaded
as little as over a month ago the price was $1.55 for regular and $1.79 for premium
currently its $2.05-$2.19 a gallon
1 gallon = 3.79 liter
1/3.79 = 0.264
$2.09 * 0.264 = $0.552 per liter
We pay €1.07 for a liter of regular unleaded here, thats (*1.06) about $1.13, a difference of more than 100% with the US. You can congratulate us with our double-as-high-as the US gas prices now, thank you
currently its $2.05-$2.19 a gallon
That makes it about $6 per gallon here in the UK then.
Exactly, don''t Female Doggo ''n whine about fuel prices then you filthy North-American dogs!
I''m sure the Iraqi people can setup their own oil harvesting and refining facilities without help in no time.
Somebody has to do it. But why should France, German, Russia or UN get a hand in it? Why should they be able to dictate where the resources go?

mmh how about let the Iraqi people decide?
""We are not going to take part in this meeting in Nassiriya. We think this is part of General Garner''s rule of Iraq and we are not going to be part of that project at all,"" said Hamid al-Bayati, the London representative of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI).

That''s reasonable and ideal. But how are they going to let Iraqi people decide right now? Who knows how long it will be before they can even get a temporary government up and running. It''s part of the plan to rebuild Iraq asap. They need the money to rebuild. I think it''s reasonable for Coalition countries to get the jobs first.
I''m still wondering why we sell petroleum to the US at a lower rate than it''s sold here in Mexico.
Because NAFTA screwed everyone but the US.
*Slightly off-topic*
How come there is so much resentment against NAFTA these days? I don''t know too much about the whole thing so don''t sue me over this but it seems to me that _any_ free-trade agreement should be considered positive, right?
It''s a variety of things Koesj, and it changes depending on who you ask. Ask a US small business owner, and you''ll here that cheaply made and often inferior latin american competition is muscling them out of business. Ask a US worker and you''ll here that jobs they probably wouldn''t have wanted anyway have moved across the border for cheaper labor. Ask an environmentalist and you''ll hear that polluting companies move just across the border for lax environmental laws. Ask someone in the administration and you might hear that free-trade from latin America has opened the flood gates of illegal drugs into our nation. Ask a mexican worker and you might hear that instead of better wages and more jobs, they''ve actually seen less.
I''m not really sure that many of these complaints are valid, I haven''t done the research.
Actually, I suspect this is one of those rare instances where Ulairi and I agree. I''m pretty much a NAFTA supporter.
