Uh no, not really. Are you referring to the bunch who are now trying to smash that Hussein statue? Many of them also were eager to cheer at the regime whenever the Iraqi TV was around. Sure, some people - especially in the poor regions of Saddam City - are happy to see the US army around now, but you''re pretty naive if some TV reports on cheering people are an indicator that ""people of Iraq"" are rising up.

Actually as a matter of interest how much is petrol currently in the US and Canada these days? as here in the UK it''s currently about the equivalent of (US) $1.60 per litre.

And since there''ll be only American and British companies bidding for it, don''t be surprised if the flags of Exxon/Mobile, Shell, and Chevron start flying over Iraq in the months to come.

currently its $2.05-$2.19 a gallon
1 gallon = 3.79 liter
1/3.79 = 0.264
$2.09 * 0.264 = $0.552 per liter
We pay €1.07 for a liter of regular unleaded here, thats (*1.06) about $1.13, a difference of more than 100% with the US. You can congratulate us with our double-as-high-as the US gas prices now, thank you

That''s reasonable and ideal. But how are they going to let Iraqi people decide right now? Who knows how long it will be before they can even get a temporary government up and running. It''s part of the plan to rebuild Iraq asap. They need the money to rebuild. I think it''s reasonable for Coalition countries to get the jobs first.
I''m still wondering why we sell petroleum to the US at a lower rate than it''s sold here in Mexico.

How come there is so much resentment against NAFTA these days? I don''t know too much about the whole thing so don''t sue me over this but it seems to me that _any_ free-trade agreement should be considered positive, right?
It''s a variety of things Koesj, and it changes depending on who you ask. Ask a US small business owner, and you''ll here that cheaply made and often inferior latin american competition is muscling them out of business. Ask a US worker and you''ll here that jobs they probably wouldn''t have wanted anyway have moved across the border for cheaper labor. Ask an environmentalist and you''ll hear that polluting companies move just across the border for lax environmental laws. Ask someone in the administration and you might hear that free-trade from latin America has opened the flood gates of illegal drugs into our nation. Ask a mexican worker and you might hear that instead of better wages and more jobs, they''ve actually seen less.
I''m not really sure that many of these complaints are valid, I haven''t done the research.

I don''t want to go off on a rant here but anyone who thinks NAFTA has hurt anyone isn''t mad about trade but the economic systems many countries have. For many countries instead of have no jobs they have manufacturing jobs that pay very little compared to what we get paid in the developed world. Like it or not Mexico is a 2nd world country. The United States is losing its manufacturing industry to other countreis, why? Well, I think it''s because our economy has developed to the point were we really don''t need much of one. We are a service economy. That hurts un-educated and un-skilled workers. Also, many people think that any time you get something from someone through trade, you''re hurting the other person. People in China are just now starting to be able to feed them selves because of trade.
People expect results in a few years when they haven''t developed their economies.
I can go into more detail because I did a paper on this very same issue.
Actually, I suspect this is one of those rare instances where Ulairi and I agree. I''m pretty much a NAFTA supporter.
