Romancing the Pile

I finished the CoD 3 singleplayer campaign. I think that will be it this month. Work has been in crunch mode and it will continue into the weekend I think.

Though it wasnt on my list, I picked Civ Rev off my pile and completed the final two achievements "In the Name of Peace" and the one for collecting all the historical Great People. 1000/1000 done, and thoroughly enjoyed.

CoD4 and Dead Space will need to wait till next month.

While I'm not calling myself beaten by Bloodlines yet... All I've been playing the last few days is Crysis and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Dead Rising not Dead Space by the way, Hemi. I'm too much of a pansy for Dead Space :).

This may be a close one.

Gah, not sure i'll be able to get through the Witcher this month.... still sitting in act 2 in Vizima.... right where i got bored the first time through the game. Anyone got further than that - does it get better?

You're in good company. That's about where I got stuck/bored too.

Yes. Exponentially.

The pace really picks up once you get through act 2, it becomes a bit of a roller-coaster.

As for me, I've had a ton of Varsity work. I did get a way in BG&E but I have barely had time to switch my pc on.

I haven't even touched Mass Effect this month. The shame!

I "touched" it, at least for about a week, but lost interest. You're not alone....

At the risk of derailing the tread with an actual success story, I just finished Earthbound. 30 hour quest my hairy white ass...I suspect I put in about double that. Of course, I also had Ness at level 97 at the end...

I think it is definitely an example of "I wish I had played it back then", because although I mostly had a good time with it, I wasn't ready (in 2008/09) to place it in the pantheon of be-all, end-all games. Admittedly, it had me smiling a lot, and the charm is undeniable - in concept, writing, music, humor, and simple "coolness". On the other hand, there were some really annoying bits as well (inventory management for one), and without a walkthrough helping me every now and then, I probably could have added another 10+ hours of not-so-fun play time.

Oh, and trying to find an acceptable stretch of ground for teleport alpha was sometimes downright infuriating.

Finally making pretty fair progress in Lost in Blue thanks to a few gamefaqs hints. The game certainly gets easier as you go along (which I guess may reflect the reality of the situation), but without the aforementioned hints, I might still be trying to kill large game with a bow and arrow in one hit (impossible, I believe) instead of using traps. I find myself enjoying the game much more when I'm not spending every waking moment searching for twigs, seaweed, and coconuts...

Also, as I still haven't even been able to install No One Lives Forever (Trying Virtual PC next, but I need to dig out my old operating system disks for that), I think we can safely remove that from the list. I'm replacing it with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (PC) for now, but not officially for February, since that would be almost impossible for a game I just installed

Don't forget to clean your mangina.

When's the new thread comin'?

I'm heading to Australia for two weeks and plan on plowing through more portable games in March.

There's no way I'm finishing Valkyria Chronicles in the next two days, but it's definitely rolling over to next month for me. I love this game.

Gah, I haven't even touched it. I'm not sure that I put the Max Payne 2 disc in my console in the entire month of February.

To reiterate just for the sake of a vain feeling of internet accomplishment, Max Payne 2 is downfor me.

Edit: Now I see the problem. Under multi-platform Max Payne 2 is listed twice, once with Adam and I and once with just me.

Sherlock Holmes : The Awakened is defeated, finally - thanks "extremely helpful gradual in-game hint system" !

I haven't played much of my pile. I have, however, leveled from 50 to 52 on my gnome rogue, and almost beaten F.E.A.R. 2!

97?! ...the hell did you do to that game?! I was an Earthbound junkie back in the day, and I wasn't even close to that lvl at the end. Holy crap.
Well, now that you are done, look up the rare item drops online for your amusement. If anyone has ever gotten the ribbon drop off the Kraken let me know.

In regards to my own pile, I might make it to the end of Okami before end of month...maybe. I won't look to see how close to the end I am, but I'm at the Wind Shrine if that means anything. We shall see.

Also, I finished Mother 3 (Earthbound sequel) for the GBA, I had to utilize an emulator, rom and fan-translation yet I feel no shame. I won't advertise it here, but message me if you are interested in specifics.

In case you're wanting to know but don't want to risk looking at a walkthrough:

The amount of failure in this thread is just unnacceptable. I want real commitment, not empty promises! I propose real consequences for failure. Forum bans? Mandatory "I failed my pile of shame" Avatars? I don't know, but Pile gods are getting angry.

I have a feeling a lot of these people are Clean Slate Gamers in denial.

I blame picking a game with a really annoyingly boring hurdle right in the early stages. I reckon i put at least 20 hours into The Witcher so far but i'm still in act 2. There's just so much back and forthing and stupid alienating your 'friends' if you ask the wrong question.

Mass Effect seems to be at the heart of the problem. It's too short and too awesome for that to happen.

I just finished Mass Effect this morning. Now I must decide between going through it again, or going through Fallout 3 again.

Lots of grinding while watching videos/listening to podcasts. I probably got 12-15 levels off of Fobbies alone. They were practically like free xp. Oddly, despite being well into the 90's, I was still having trouble with Starman ghosts that cast starstorm alpha, and the one-eyed things that made the whole party lose its mind.

I suspect that if I had been younger, I would have finished the game at a much lower level. Nowadays I like grinding ahead of time to avoid future difficulties. The first time I beat Dragon Warrior, I was 11 or 12. I completed it with a level 17 character. The last time I finished the game (2006?), I was level 28 and was still nervous.

You're my favorite person.
Ever.

No Witcher for me this month. Stuck somewhere in Chapter 2 with not a lot of motivation. I think this is generally where I originally failed stopped last time I was playing it. I will keep slogging through, I'm having more fun with this than I remembered having the first time.

oops, fixed

New thread should go up this weekend, but you can post some titles for March here in the interim.
