Of Jedi and April Fool's.

Judge for yourself

There are also "alleged" screenshots here.

This is most obviously a hoax. Recall that a sequel to JK1, "Jedi Master" was "revealed" on April 1 of 1999. Though this one is more in-depth, the game description has "Too Good To Be True" written all over it, the screens look susipiciously like fan mods for JK2, and the "dev cycle" seems too damn tight to be believeable given Raven's other big project...

Then there's the character creation screen. Now I haven't seen the one used in Star Wars Galaxies, but from what I've seen of the UI, this one looks like a dead-ringer for it.

Believe at your own risk...

When did we start having April fool''s jokes on the 30th of March?

The fact that nobody else is talking about it. Blue''s, GameSpy, even TheForce.net are all silent on it. The only one who mentioned it was Shacknews, but they''re skeptical about it too.

Oh, and this from Gamestar. If that doesn''t clinch it...

Is it just me, or do those screenshots look exactly like Knights of the Old Republic screenshots I have seen...especially the rancor.

Someone should give jediknightii.net a calendar or something.

I would not want to be near a JK fanboi when they learn the truth after blindly believing this. They''d be liable to behead a whole tribe of Tusken Raiders, be they Jedi or Sith.

If only we could somehow harness the SW fanboy power and use it to make George Lucas write a script that is worth a crap. And cast some actors that can act...Is that really so much to ask for?

Excepting the fact tomorrow is April First, the screen shots look like they could have been taken from a JKII mod for crying out loud. Or an expansion pack. The models and textures all look exactly like they could have been taken from JKII with no work at all.

Minus the ultra-low quality, grainy, obviously faked character generation screens.

They are a few days early. March has 31 days in it

Because the whole thing (and all screenshots) is based on a 6-page preview in the latest issue of Gamestar, one of Germany''s biggest gaming mags. The April issue shipped to subscribers last Saturday. Check out their current front-page here. Those screenies, especially the two-handed sword-fights etc. could be easily taken from KoTOR.

We now have good reason to believe this is legitimate.

My mind''s starting to (slowly) turn after I saw Raven''s Kenn Hoekstra posting in this thread at Blue''s. He does add some legitamcy to it (or adds more fun to the joke).

I have confirmed the story with Kenn Hoekstra of Raven Software personally.

It''s true.

If it''s true (all of it), hot damn! Sounds kind of like what Sony''s doing with Syphon Filter: Omega Strain.

I take back everything I said and claim the opposite!

Don''t! Hedge your bets now! Don''t trust anybody or anything! Resist! RESIST!!!!!!

Damn, that really is great news! I was doing my best to believe it was an April Fools joke so I wouldn''t be too disappointed. Glad to see Raven confirming it. And Ratboy, get away with your negative mojo, before you jinx it.

I loved JKII some many things just clicked right with the feel of the force powers, the sound effect when you did a force jump etc... Still love it multiple player, though don''t get the time I would like with it. I hope they add a more complex saber dual, with the ability to really block, parry and counter when you create an opening. Some actual basic and logical sword play would add a whole hell of a lot to the game IMO. It would be nice if they got somebody who knows a bit about a few major systems (Kendo, Fencing, Chen Taiji Sword, Iai Jitsu etc.) instead of just making it up as they go along. I''m going to cry if it all turns out ot be a joke :). It would not be the first time even official people at a game company have revealed a sense of humor this time of year before being forced back into their cages.

Maybe we shouldn''t read into this, but haven''t you noticed none of the pay sites such as GameSpy and GameSpot haven''t touched this at all?

And as I type this, I happen to notice this at IGNPC. But, to further muddy the waters of credibility, check out the by-line.

It''s true.

Beware, Elysium. If what you say is false, I will be forced to break out the old prom videos and post them on the internet!

If it is true, however, they will have to start a new series name to confuse us further. Maybe ""Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Student 1"".

I remain confident that this story is true.

Oh, and I have some videos of my own that I''m quite certain would stay your hand.

Video fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I''m so damn surprized, I''m actually excited for this game now! I really thought it was some sort of mod, but WOW!

ALL RIGHT! 8)

So far, no info on GameSpot or GameSpy. Either they''re holding off because they''re not 100% true it''s real (which IGN seems to committed to) or there''s some special exclusivity deal with Gamestar (which IGN broke).

I think it was a horrific cat fight between companies that start with Game.

Obviously, we know the winner. The 2 juggernauts GameSpy and GameSpot effectively neutralized each other allowing Gamestar to claim top prize. Kudos to their brilliant strategy!

More official confirmation from somebody at Raven.

Don''t you people find it a little odd that suddenly a near-completed Jedi Knight game comes out of nowhere and is announced days before April Fool''s Day. This sounds way too good to be true.

What''s sad is, if true, this could be the worst thing to happen to the DF/JK series. I have yet to hear of anything that makes this sound like a true sequel. It feels more like an overdone expansion. And if they charge full game price for it...

They can''t possibly sell it as an expansion if they are planning on porting it to consoles. And that is where most of the money for single-player gaming comes from nowadays.

I just hope that if it''s true that they take out some of the stupid jump puzzle sections that required perfect timing and positioning. Jedi Knight 2 was much more a love hate thing for me than the original Jedi Knight.
