Super And Not Super Street Fighter IV Catch all

Saturday night is fight night! Starting 6.30pm EST, and carrying on as people come and go.
If I had steam privileges I'd make an event.

Okay games out, the choice was obvious. We need our own thread. If you post in this thread, you'll likely get added, until we get a night of the week for SF.

And I hate seth.

Edit to be more assertive:

Still trying to get a copy. Preorders can go to hell. Still hoping Mistar Demiurge has an extra copy for me

If I can't find a copy tomorrow I'm gonna have to flip out and kill some folks.

Just saying.

Anyone know if they're making more of the SFIV TE fightsticks? I know the preorders sold out, but I'm hoping they'll make more. Considering dropping $150 on one. Ouch.

Supposedly they are working on more production runs of it, they wildly underestimated demand for it. From what I hear, they only made 3000 TE sticks for the first run.

Haha, wow. 3000?

I really wish I knew where I could get my hands on both the $80 and $150 versions in a local store. Wondering if it's really worth the price difference. Urgh.

I scored a copy of the game yesterday, and spent most of last night just unlocking the characters. If you want the super-easy option, make sure you set the difficulty to "Easiest" and not "Easy." I'm definitely in for Saturday night, even though I'll probably get destroyed repeatedly.

Talked the gamestop guy into letting me 'pre-order' a copy of SFIV yesterday, and strangely enough, as soon as I finished pre-ordering, a shipment came in from underneath the counter.

Nimcosi beat me pretty badly last night, but I must argue the fact that I haven't played that game since the early 90's and my thumb wasn't up to the task. Nim's thumb seemed to be perfectly fine though. I'm not sure what he's doing to keep it in shape, and probably don't want to know...

Today I have one of the HORI Pro EX sticks on the way (should arrive tomorrow if Amazon isn't jerking my chain). Tomorrow, we take over the world!

Cheers!

If the 360 had a decent D-Pad, I'd probably be all over this.

Does anyone have any impressions on playing with the standard controller? I'm still on the fence as to which system I'm picking it up for.

I'm was leaning toward the PS3 for the controller, but online is so lonely there for me. My ideal pickup would be for the 360, but how's the controller functioning for folks?

Also, anyone pick up the CE? I've heard Sinatar's impressions... anyone else have some hands on time with it? What's the "Brawler Pack" going for separately?

The D-pad is awful in the 360, but we played the HD Remix and we all got used to the analog stick, it's much better. A guy in our group was really "d-pad faithful" and even he switched after a few beatdowns.

I can't wait to play this new one =)

I can't fathom playing this on the 360 controller. If not for the fact that Amazon supposedly is sending me 2 of the MadCatz sticks I'd probably be forced to get this on the PS3.

Nice score! I grabbed a copy from Game Crazy yesterday. The guy said it was the last one, and then lectured me on the evils of not preordering.

I'll add you tonight.

Atomic, if you're starting up a clan tag please drop my name into the hat. I've got a copy waiting for me via in-store pickup at Best Worst Buy. As soon as this gift card is tapped, I'm never going back. Whoo-Hoo!

I decided on the 360 because I hardly ever think of turning on my PS3 for games but I flip my 360 on without a moment's hesitation. Also, regarding the controller I figure I'll adjust. I was able to knock it out OK on SSFHDHDHDHDHDHDHDx#3, and I was never that great to begin with, but gaming with friends trumps semi-proficiency with a controller... so, well, there you have it.

Hopefully I'll see y'all on.

P.S. It's my birthday, so I get to win, right?

MY controller thoughts: analog stick is good for about 45 minutes, then hand fatigue sets in pretty quickly afterward.
Hmmm, how do i go setting up a clan tag. Experimentation time.
Until I get around to (meaning maybe never) just use the old GWJ Fight club.

Your birthday is a day to teach you of your own mortality. What better way than to kick your butt in Street Fighter?

Any opinions on the net code so far? The online portion will make or break this for me.

I've searched through the threads I thought the post I was looking for was in, but failed. Figure I'll just ask ...

There was someone here in the forums that had made his own custom stick for use in SFIV / Arcade games. He had installed some clear Sanwa or ... (another brand I can't remember) buttons along with some artwork pulled from deviantart for his box.

What I'm looking for is - what kind of buttons can I use to upgrade the Hori EX Pro stick with? Seems all the reviews say it's a great stick, but the buttons could use an update. I searched and they all appear to run about 2.50 each. So for <20.00 I can upgrade my unit (yeah I said it). I'd need to know the specific button type to use, or what makes the difference between a 24 and a 30 button (their sku's throw me off)... that kinda stuff.

Ideas?

Gracias,
Nyxs

It seemed to work fine yesterday.

And today. I've had no problems even with mediocre connections.

Its in the 360 or PS3 SF4 thread.

Two sticks? Because, I mean, you only need one, right? Right?

*sigh*

God I wish I'd jumped on the joystick bandwagon.

For what it's worth, the "Brawler Pack" is 320 points and adds actual, new costumes for the "wrestlers" in the game. Originally I thought it was like a new set of colors, but it's better than that. I don't regret buying the pack, but I don't really play those characters, either.

And I wouldn't say at all that the 360 is the big winner for SF4. I was so close to getting the PS3. Luckily, I'm getting used to using the 360's d-pad while searching desperately for an alternative controller.

Each pack is approximately $4. If you can wait until April (I think) you can get all 5 for $20. Some of them look pretty bad, imo, so you might want to check out images before buying (plenty of images all around, check the Shoryuken forums).

I played 5 online matches last night (not a huge sample set, but something) and every single one was perfect. 4 of them I didn't even see what the connection was, the 5th one was a 4 bar connection. No perceptible lag, and I was dodging and FA absorbing attacks with no difficulty. So far, my impression is that this is not SC4, it's more like VF5 (if not better).

And these matches were during prime time on the pacific coast.

I've searched all 5 pages of that thread and can't seem to locate it.

********

As for the Brawler Pack - I purchased it last night. Costumes are cool! I love Halloween!

Cory, you can pick up the Hori EX stick for less than the Tournament edition one, although you'd lack the branding of SFIV. I just ordered one.

And from what I've read, the HRAP also uses quick disconnects for the buttons, so you could mod it to Sanwa parts if you are so inclined, which will land you with exactly what the TE stick is in terms of parts, and for probably about the same total cost (but without the hastle of having to hunt down an actual TE, or pay absurd eBay prices).

The same is also true of the $80 MadCatz one, or so I've read.

I tried to get used to the analog stick. I really tried. But I've never been comfortable with analog stick (or arcade joystick) controls for fighting games, even 3d fighting games. I play them all with a d-pad.

Supposedly the d-pad on the Fightpads is really good, emulating the Sega Saturn pad. I haven't used one, so I can't say first hand, but that's the rumor.

Just played a couple of zero-connection games (i.e. no bars of connection at all). You could tell there was lag, but the game was still playable. It wasn't choppy, it just felt 'off'.

Yeah, I'm looking for feedback on the Fightpad as well. I took a chance and picked one up from BB when I ran (literally) out for lunch and I'll comment on it after I've put some time on it.

The reason I wanted to give it a shot was the six-button face layout. I'm easily confused and not so dexterous when trying to use a left bumper for hurricane kicks or dragon punches. So I'm hoping the more traditional layout will be a benefit. Also, BB said I could bring it back, opened, for a full refund within 30 days. What could possibly go wrong?

Now, thanks to MS and their tight leash it's a wired controller and I'm pretty sure it lacks rumble (major disappointments all around) but I'll give it a shot. I won't shell out C-note plus for a fighting stick because I don't have a table top surface to set it on and playing with it in my lap is only going to make it slide (my DK bongos taught me that — yes, I'm a peripheral WHORE!).

I'll write back with what I think. Hopefully tomorrow.

Man, those bongos were fun. Well mine were, maybe because they were free.
