harbinger demo impressions

well so far it is like diablo 1.5 in space.

it has some neat gimmicks and the animations are well done.

id have to play the gladiator and the "sorceress" type character before passing any final judgement on longevity.

no skill trees. each race has unique abilities. humans can lay mines. the others? who knows?

its a good game. the only thing that may hurt it depth is because it has a quarter the staff of diablo 2 if that.

my guess is diablo 1.5 depth of gameplay with higher res (10x7 playable) and less blurry graphics in a giant space ship sci fi setting.

some neat innovations to the genre:

stashes - basically interconnected bank boxes strewn about the landscape. put stuff into one at this location and access it at any of the other locations. item ATM's i guess.

"wells" - not only replenish health but give permanent stat increases

environment interaction - think smaller versions of diablo's seals but much more frequent

mine laying - like assasin traps with no range attacks, so far. spider mines are quite visceral

Fang, I love ya, but if you don''t start showing that you care and using capital letters I think my head may explode. It''s hard to read and I find myself skipping your otherwise solid posts.

Feel free to disregard

To stay on topic, I found the demo to be pretty boring. I never liked Diablo much in the first place so this is hardly surprising.

Heh. Capitalization gets in the way of inspired creativity. Are you actually suggesting I think before I post?

I''ve just gotten used to typing the 4 finger ""hunt and peck"" method. Adding the ""shift"" key requires awkward finger stretches.

However, in respect to the fruits of your labor here, I will be more mindfull of my capitals. I''m still learning my netiquette. I used to post all my thoughts in one extremely long rant-like paragraph. I broke that habit real quick.

I am an avid Diablo player. What I''ve seen so far puts this in the ""maybe"" category. Unfortunately for Silverback, I have purchased much worse titles. Without the demo, this may have creapt into my subconcious, uttering ""buy me!""

I very much appreciate it Fang, I''m sure the rest do as well

Heh I still do that, you trying to suggest there might be some other way? Blasphemer!

I really recognize the paragraphing, happens to me a lot when I write in Dutch. Problem with messageboards in English is that I can''t rant away in my native language and need to actually think before I post or risk degenerating into an incohesive flurry of errors.

I downloaded this just as a quick ""pass a boring afternoon in the office"" game. The demo''s OK and it is pretty big for a demo.

Unfortunately for me ,it''s very much an inferior diablo in space clone and I still dislike the ""try to click on the fast moving creature to attack"" half te time instead of attacking your Avatar moves to that spot, often into melee range of the group of hidden creatures and a quick death.

Not the worst game ever but I''d probaby wait ''til itcomes out on budget to buy it and even then only if nothing better was available.

Just as in the Diablo Series, shift left click attacks from range without moving.

That should help you a lot Kegboy.

Maybe if you''d lay off the sauce you could have figured it out? LOL! [/joke]

I wish!

Having a Looooong boring day in the office and my brains going to sleep, Cheers for the tip Fang
