I can't f-ing BELIEVE they're going to butcher Galactica!

After reading this story on the GWJ main page, I must say I'm decidedly pissed. I mean come on, a FEMALE Starbuck?!?! WTF?!?! Also, they state, "This intriguing take on a classic creates an epic miniseries with action, adventure and family drama." Didn't it already HAVE those things? Christ this is gonna SUCK...

You can''t believe they are gonna butcher Galatica? Have you paid ANY attention to Hollywood for that past, oh say... 50 years or so?

They butcher E V E R Y T H I N G.

I''ve already mentioned my feelings in my reply on the main page (I''m mr Anonymous, D''oh) I''ll also add that Ron Moore did some of my favourite trek stuff from my favoutite trek series DS9. However I hope to hell that they take Boxey and that stupid ""monkey in a suit"" daggit out this time around! I''m cautiously hopeful. (fingers crossed!)

I have to agree with you there. I just heard, for example, that they''re remaking ""Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"" with f-ing Reese Witherspoon. IS NOTHING SACRED? Are there no new ideas anymore!? Arg!

I have an idea, how about we all wait till it comes out before we start talking about how awful it''s going to be.

I know there is a lot of absolute crap out there but no one forces you to watch it. So if you hate the idea of them remaking BG than while everyone else is watching the new one you can stick in a tape or DVD of the original and pretend it''s new all over again!

Screw that, I wanna Female Doggo about it NOW. Seriously, I can see little to no good coming from this, and would be VERY surprised if it turned out well.

I sorta agree with Gaald. I mean how many of us thought the LOTR was ging to turn out as well as it did when we started reading about the changes Peter Jackson was making. I think that is probably a best case scenario, but still....I prefer to keep an open mind until I see the movie and realize how bad they f*cked it up.

Scifi sucks. They killed Farscape.

I still think we should invade France.

It''s not so much that they''re remaking BG, it''s that the entertainment industry in general seems to have completly run out of ideas. Maybe it''s just me, but it seems like there''s a lot more remakes coming out these days. The only reason to make another version of Battlestar galactica is to make money off the name. Otherwise, they could do esactly the same story, and call it something else. If it''s a good story, then it should be able to stand on it''s own. Of course, every fanboy on the internet would start screaming ""BATTLESTAR RIP-OFF"" if they did that

Scifi sucks. They killed Farscape.

Don''t even get me started about the axing of Farscape...!!

That you''re happy they decided to pull the plug now rather than mandate shows from the producers which would''ve destroyed the series forever?

which would''ve destroyed the series forever?

I haven''t been keeping up with the internal problems I just knew the show had been axed, so tell me exactly what happened?

Show costs too much money vs. ad revenue. Way too much money. If Sci-Fi hadn''t axed it, they would''ve slashed its budget by a quite a bit, which almost certainly resulted in a very scaled down 4th season with perhaps even actors, writers, directors, and even producers bolting.

I was getting all depressed and whatnot, then I read this. Best.Post.Evar!

After the debacle that is Episode 1 and 2, if they f*ck up Galactica....part of my childhood will just die.
/sigh.
Like someone else said; at least we have the original series.

And who are they getting to play Cmdr. Adama? Well according to this it''s Edward James Olmos.

Riiight.

She looks like a f-ing Hanson reject. This has gone from bad to worse. <goes over to a corner and cries>

Or your...nah, this is a grown-up site after all.

Yes, Rat Boy, it is ... but we let you hang around anyway!

Oh come on people, it was a crappy TV show in the first place that was targeted at small children (that was most of us back then)... sure it had a few moments, and we where all to young to care about all the bad one''s :), mostly it had space jocks flying around blowing up robots and while that was all good there was not much else there. How could it not suck, it''s like if they where going to remake Buck Rogers, there would be no hope that it would be a better bad show then the original would there?

/em ducks the bucket of rotten fruit being chucked

It occurs to me that the same complaints against this new remake are the same ones that were directed at George Lucas when Episode I came out. People said it was to cheesy, it was to cute, and that Jar-Jar was obviously aimed at children. Yet if you never saw the original Star Wars and had just saw it now for the first time as an adult, you''d probably have the same impression. I think the main problem is that we''re comparing something we saw from the viewpoint of a child to something we''re seeimg with the viewpoint of an adult. Of course we think it won''t be as good, because back then, everything was new to us. Now of course, after having seen dozens and dozens of similar shows, we''re more jaded and are more likely to spot problems. Like Griffon said, it really wasn''t that amazing of a show anyway. The plots and storylines weren''t exatly rivaling Shakespeare. I think we''re comparing the new to our memories of the original, which may or may not match what we really saw.

This just in...Edward Jame Olmos is close to signing on as Commander Adama, so sayeth Sci Fi Wire.

""By the Lords of Kobol, let''s move on to equilateral triangles.""

Okay, I like Mr Olmos just fine...but why did this spring to mind instantly?

Hey, now there''s an idea for actors who could play Boomer and that other guy, you know, the fat guy.

yes and out of galacticas launchbay comes a Ferrari shaped Viper! and here comes the surveillance team in the space van! I like Mr Olmos but like Gorey everytime I think of him I just timewarp back to the Eighties and Miami Vice...Still at least he''s a pretty good actor, and don''t even suggest Don ""Nash Bridges"" Johnson The shows producers might hear you and think it''s a good idea...

Scifi sucks. They killed Farscape.

I know I''m kicking a dead thread and this is a bit off topic... but I don''t care! I''ve just seen the LAST episode of Farscape tonight..... AAaaaaghhhhh! how can it end like that , THIS SUCKS I knew they''d canned the show, but I always keep away from spoilers so I didn''t know how it ended! I must say I''m gutted! I must know what happens next! They can''t be dead!

I revive thee from the dead!

I just found these two quotes way too funny.

Oh, how wrong you all were.

I bet you changed your mind after that near-sex scene she had with Apollo this past season. Dayum!
