GBA SP

I got my GBA SP in the mail today!

It's the coolest thing ever. The light is absolutely fantastic. I've never used an afterburner so I can't compare it to that, but you can easily see the screen in a dark room with the SP.

You're also going to be surprised how small the thing is. This will easily fit in your pocket to take to school/work/mother in law.

Thats what bothers me though! My current GBA hurts my hands because its too small, even with a battery pack that has grips. This thing would probably send me into fits. Anybody out there with large hands that has tried it?

I didn''t think they came out until the end of March? I''m really itching to get my hands on one of these suckers. I read somwhere that Kid Icarus may make an appearance, on the Gameboy, in the not to distant future, and just the hint of that is enough to sell me one.

I have large hands, and while the GBA SP is small, it''s really not all that uncomfortable. I hold it more with my finger tips than my hands.

SP doesn''t come out until March, but I imported one.
If you don''t have a GBA and are thinking about one, wait until the SP is out so you can see it first. It''s really a neat little gizmo.

I''m one of the two people who have never owned a Gameboy. Finally decided to buy one a few months ago to play Metroid Fusion, and then they go and announce the SP. It''s been a Female Doggo waiting now that I want one.

Damn, as soon as my girlfriend sees one on the shelves I''ll be forced to buy one to keep her quiet, she''s been trying to get me to buy a new GBA ever since our last game boy had a small ""accident"".( GBA + sink + water + playful kitten = me )

I''m waiting on my Pearl GBSP sometime next week. I can''t wait to try it out. How are the L/R buttons?

The L/R buttons are small, but surprisingly easy to use if you hold the GB more with your fingers than your hands. I hope you enjoy your Pearl GBA SP.

Scoli, do you prefer the SP design over the Advance? As someone with large hands myself, I don''t want something that''s going to be uncomfortable after a half hour of play.

Drunkagain, it''s really personal preference. While I enjoy the fact that it''s extremely portable now, I do wish it was larger. Of course, I wish the original GBA was larger. I''m 6""3'' so, as you can imagine, my hands aren''t exactly small. While my hands don''t cramp up after 30 min of play, I would be happier if the SP was shaped more like an original X-box controller.

So, I still haven''t answered your question...

Um, I like the SP. Once you learn how to hold it, it''s remarkably comfortable. I would say that the SP, on a comfort level, is right about even with the original GBA. However, it''s far from being ergonomic. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, shoot.

I''m confused. Is the GBA SP available now? I see all these people saying they''ve got one, but I don''t see one in stores. I asked some stores around here and they say it will arrive next week. EB games says they''ve sold out of their first shipment.

So, where can I get a GBA SP? I''m already making a list of the games I want. This thing seems really cool.

American relese date is 3/22.
You can get one now from Lik-Sang or Video Game Depot.

When you pick it up do yourself a favor and pick up Advanced Wars and Super Mario Advanced 2 and/or 3.

Good stuff.

We got a GBA SP demo in my store yesterday.

From the little I used it, it seems to be the most uncomfortable handheld ever. The bottom corners dig into your hand if you hold it normally. This forces you to hold it with your fingers, and press the shoulder buttons with the middle of your pointer fingers, neither of which I could keep up for a long time.

I''m also shocked at how large it is. It may have been me succumbing to the hype machine, but with everyone I''ve seen from Penny Arcade to here claiming it''s ""surprisingly small,"" I was expecting it to be smaller.

A no go for me... pity too, because GBA has some cool games. Maybe someday they''ll design a comfortable handheld.

Also, Pulse, not to be anal but it''s Advance Wars and Super Mario Advance and a Game Boy Advance SP... I hate when people add the ""d""

Spelling Nazi

If we''re going to get into proper spelling in this forum we could be in a lot of trouble, but thanks for the heads up.

If you''ll excuse me, I''m off to read about Advanced Wars 2.
