Battlestar Galactica - Final Season Catch-All (SPOILERS)

33 is just damn fine entertainment. I can watch that episode to this day and enjoy every minute of it.

Unfinished Business is also quite good.

Lost & BSG must be time travel buddies this season.

Come on. There's no room for boring episodes in all of this. What a snoozer.

A little dull, but the scene where Tyrol corners Hot Dog (and when we the audience finally realize that he's Cally's baby daddy) and Adama in bed with Roslin (*shudder* Like walking in on your parents. *shudder*) are about the only highlights from Ron Moore's directorial debut.

And is this the episode where Face of the Enemy comes into play? It sounds like this plan that Gaeta and Hoshi were talking about in the final episode involves siding with Zarek here.

EDIT: I was reminded of the Voyager episode Night.

That was one of my favorite episodes of V'GER.

I'll second the EWW factor of seeing Adama and Roslin in bed, but on the whole, I like where that storyline is leading us. With those two checking out, the stage is set for a lot of fireworks. They were the glue holding the whole fleet together, and without them, everyone else has to figure out how they fit in the puzzle. There will be blood, and that's just how it is. None of it feels like your normal SF TV show, but I like it.

Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell star in Bill and Laurie Make a Porno, directed by Ronald D. Moore.

I thought it was a very powerful image, seeing Laura and Bill together in bed together, all boob and baldness and chest hair. They looked like a real couple does in bed -- kinda funky, a little ugly, and very happy. Not at all like the typical Hollywood presentation.

Totally called Nicky not being Tyrol's son. But they just sort of left that story hanging at the end of the episode. They didn't really DO anything with it. Likewise with Baltar -- what WAS that speech?

Can't wait to see what sort of revolutionary hijinx Gaeta and Zarek get into, and Gaeta's reaction when Zarek inevitably doublecrosses him. Gonna be good.

Likewise with Baltar -- what WAS that speech?

I believe they were revolting against their god.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Put 33 down as my favorite episode of the series too. It's so great that it's the first true episode of the series. It's a great intro to the awesomeness of the sci and the fi and the actors and the characters for anyone who tries the BSG on for size.

About this most recent episode: One thing I really enjoyed were the short space shots of the raptors approaching and boarding the tillium ship. It had lots of the cool little touches of the BSG flight model that I had kindof missed over the last 2(ish) seasons.

Made me crave a proper space sim of Galactica even more.

That's someone's tag, that is.

I know, but they didn't do a thing with it. That's an awesome idea, and there it was smushed in as a throwaway scene setter for the presumably more important action of Tyrol beating up Hot Dog. I just don't think Nicky's parentage is nearly as interesting as Baltar stirring malcontent.

And while I'm on it: why was Baltar, who we all know loves his life very much, nonchalantly smoking a ciggie during a riot? That didn't jibe with me at all.

NSMike wrote:

Jim Jones. That speech reminded me pretty vividly of some of the speeches / rants that Jim Jones gave at Jonestown that I've seen in one of a dozen documentaries. I wouldn't be surprised if its going in that direction.

Although I'm not happy that they have kind of back seated Baltar's storyline and character arc for yet another story about "Tom Zarek's political intrigue". Again? A plot by Tom Zarek to overthrow the government is like two college co-eds skinny dipping in the middle of the night at Crystal Lake. Never works and ya' know how it ends.

I don't think that's all they're going to do with Baltar's rant. But it was very interesting to hear the prophet all of a sudden do a 180 and rage against his god.

It's just another vector that looks like it's going to end badly. I really like where the show is going, but damn if the show ends with "everyone kills each other" that's going to be a downer

More Galactica insight from the Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan and Ronald D. Moore.

Really bad ad placement. (Pretty big episode spoiler if you haven't seen it yet)

Stick around until the singing begins if you don't know the song.

I was with a big group of folks when we saw this. We were all in shock...then we all couldn't stop laughing...

Personally, I loved Friday's episode (which I just watched last night) and thought it was one of the stronger episodes in a while. When they said that Nicky wasn't Tyrol's child, I was completely taken aback. It makes complete sense that Tyrol isn't the father, since how would they reconcile another Cylon-Human hybrid, but the fact is I never even considered that story avenue as an option. I might be a bit naive, but still: it really floored me. And I agree with Pyro in this (and Baltar's) case: they presented these items in the episode, and I'm pretty sure they'll be revisiting them in the future. I don't think they were just thrown in there just to be discarded.

I also really enjoyed the last scene with Adama and Roslin in bed together and echo exactly what Kat said in regards to why. Roslin knows she's going to die, and I think Adama has come to terms with that as well, which is why we see them finally trying to catch a little light from the shadows surrounding everyone.

In regards to Zarek, I liked how they're tying the character back to the first season. I thought that when Adama, Lee and him were fielding questions from the press, he had started seeing his idealism crumble now that he's actually within government instead of without. However, I don't think that'll be the case.

One of my favorite parts of the episode: in the beginning of the episode, Tyrol is trying to explain the Cylon's FTL technology and he's getting all mixed up with the pronouns ("With their tech, um, I mean our technology...") and Tigh just says "Maybe you'd like a chart to keep it all straight?" That got a laugh out of me, and served as kind of a wink to people watching the show as well. Nice!

Finally, I really liked the direction in this episode, and thought that Ron Moore did a good job for a first time director. I really appreciated how the episode opened, with Adama going through the rote and mundane things we all do in the morning. And him picking up the litter around the ship was a nice theme. I got a hunch during the episode that Adama might be 'the dying leader' the prophecy refers to. Even though Roslin (among many others) have pretty much stopped believing in the prophecy, I don't think the prophecy is done with them.

How awesome would it be if Zarek and Gaeta actually succeed? They might succeed for a few episodes (at best), but you know that the heroes of this show will ultimately prevail, which stinks since the heroes are by-and-large pretty predictable.

I guess we will see soon.

Well, after last night's episode, I hope the Old Man erects a gallows in one of the hangers and executes the whole damn lot.

You think the heroes are predictable? So what are they gonna do in episode 6?

I totally agree - I want that snivelling, backstabbing one-legged little worm shot out of the nearest airlock please, preferably after being kicked in the balls.

Oooooo that episode made me so angry (but in a good way)

I demand a health dose of come-uppence for all involved.

One more vote for throwing Gaeta in an airlock. After a good kick in the nuts. Really wondering how this is gonna turn out...

I'm totally not caught up on this (Not quite done with Season 2 yet actually) but just came in here to say that I would totally side with the Cylons.

Especially if it meant hanging out in a ship full of completely naked Grace Park copies. What's that? You want to have cyborg babies?

Aaaaalrighty then.

With Gaeta limping around and the entire ship in mutiny I kind of chuckled because it seemed like almost an oddball homage to the horrible (and hilarious Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode) "Space Mutiny". We put our faith in Blast Hardcheese.

After the episode before this one I was kind of worried that the last ten episodes would whimper out with more political intrigue, but no I guess not I'm clueless as to where this is all going and loving every minute of it.

Buff Drinklot.

I really liked Gaeta after the season 3 episode with the secret tribunal and all that but the poor guy has been in a downward slide since then. They definitely set him on this path a while back.

Well, we can't hate on the cylons anymore, so the writers decided Gaeta would be the target of all our nerd rage.

I haven't seen the episode yet but I'm curious what everyone thought of Gaeta as the mutinous leader. I've always loved Gaeta but I never felt that actor Alessandro Juliani put enough weight into the role for Gaeta to pull something like this off.

I think that comes across when he's at the helm in the CIC: he's in over his head and, since things aren't exactly going according to plan, he doesn't really know how to respond. Just goes to show you how utterly in control Adama is when in charge of the ship in comparison.

Loved the episode last night, and I thought the use of timestamps throughout the episode really helped to illustrate how fast things happened on the ship. Man, it was just so completely drenched in tension that I didn't realize I was leaning forward for a good half of the episode until my wife mentioned it. How the heck am I supposed to wait until next week to find out what happened? Arrrgh!

Gods, what I'll miss about this show, among other things, are the little moments. When Tigh walks in to Adama's quarters and sees Laura there... Tigh's face says it all without him having to say a single word! Again, Hogan should get an Emmy, he's such a fantastic actor with his one eye. It was good to see Kara back in action, if you will: her face off with the crew on the flight deck was excellent and I was pleased to see her kick-ass once more... It's been too long since we've seen that.

I wanted her to shoot them all except Lee.

GAH I hate having to wait a frackin week!!
