Someone fill me in on Freelancer please

I only heard of this game like a month or so back. What's the gig on it? Is it like a BattleCruiser type game but like A LOT better?

It looks interesting, and pretty deep with content. Anyone here follow the game religiously? I've always wanted to try out a simulation, space to be more exact.

(Hopefully) it''ll be more like Elite without the bugs and with a great graphics engine!

There were bugs in Elite? I always thought I crashed on landing because I sucked! And how updated do you really need the graphics? Wireframe lets you use your imagination. At least that''s the way I remember Elite on the Apple ][c.

Okay so I was thinking more of elite 2 frontier (shudder) when I was talking about bugs, but having recently dug my 48k ZXspectrum computer out of the roofspace and after many days of gnashing of teeth and adjusting of the volume on the tape loader I can say that the wireframe graphics whilst good at the time now suck terribly. I had really good memories of certain old games (Elite and X-com come immediately to mind) but having replayed both I was really astonished at how badly the graphics have aged. It''s amazing how much I now take good graphics for granted. Don''t get me wrong they''re great games but I really can''t bring myself to play for too long without going ""Damn thats ugly"". Yes feel free to call me shallow but that''s how I feel.

I''d like to forget the bug-laden experience Frontier was. However, I did play the hell out of Elite and Elite Plus.

I''m not even gonna go there, but it IS an excellent game. I''ve been answering a ton of FL questions here, here, here, and here. Hopefully my preview for the Wargamer will be up soon as well. I hope that helps.

How system intensive is FL at his point? Sure want to play it, but I''m not looking to dump more money into the PC anytime soon.
