Skies of Arcadia Legends

If you have a GC and like RPGs this is a must buy. It was the best Dreamcast RPG and is in the top 5 RPG of all time. The big problem with the game is random battles and they are suppose to have fixed that.

If you're thinking about it make sure to at least rent it.

I know I''m going to buy this. I don''t want to. I won''t finish it. I pretty much never finish any game. The last game I finished was Luigi Vacuums, but only because it was short and easy. I know I''m only going to get about 10 hours into Skies. I can''t tell you how many times I restared Chrono Cross because I played it, left it alone for a while, wanted to play it again and forgot where I was in the game. Curse you Skies of Arcadia!

Sway, im the same f*cking way man. You know what, in fact, I don''t think I''m going to buy just straight single player games anymore. I bought Red Faction 2, Grand Theft Auto 3/GTAVice City, WarCraft 3, Age of Mythology within the past couple months and I have not finishied a single one of them.

The only single player game I''ve finished within the past 2 years is Max Payne.

I am still hesistant on buying Unreal 2, I hope this doesn''t turn into my list of never finished games.

Anyways, the original skies of arcadia was good, I would imagine this is probably just as good if not better.

I''ll buy it if it ever comes into PAL-land. Love my RPGs.

Does Nintendo release games in PAL-land?

Us PALians still get games on cartridge, no lie.

Just finished this game, and I didn't want to get *coughed*, so I'm reviving a 2 yr old thread...

I just finished it on GC, and I have to say, that's about the most fun I've had with an RPG in a long time. I was simply amazed with the game. I was trying to figure out why, and I came up with two reasons:

It's just well balanced and put together. It's a large world, which opens up fairly quickly to you, and has a lot of depth for those who feel like spending a little extra time to get into it. The "discoveries" were a great touch, and as the story moved through low points, or I was leveling up anyway, I became obsessed with exploring and finding those nuggets that were hidden away in remote places. The farther away you are from cities, the more likely you are to find discoveries, especially rare ones. I'd give it an almost Wind Waker-like kind of travelling system, except there actually are things to look for in between. Aside from the joy of finding hidden things, you are also rewarded for exploring by finding crew members in the later part of the game, which aid you in combat or boost the stats of you characters or ship, aside from having their own storylines.

The other reason is that the story is not only quick moving and entertaining, it centers around the type of protaganist I haven't seen in a long time. There is no inner conflict, no deep hidden pain or shame, no defining moment during which the sins of the past are brought to light and absolved. He's just a good guy, with a lot of perseverance and conviction. It felt... rejuvinating. I like heros that are "real" and have the same kind of "why me?" thoughts that I'd have in these situations, but playing through this game made me realize I haven't seen heros that do the right thing all the time, no matter what the cost, in a long long time. Anyway, the rest of the characters are also fun, and the emotional trauma that the hero lacks is made up for in others.

Did anyone else have this much fun with the game, or is it just that I haven't actually finished an RPG that I wasn't replaying in a long time? (I'm at the final boss in Dragon Quest VIII as well, but that will have to wait until I can get back to my PS2 finish exploring that world too.)

I had at least that much fun, Jolly Bill. I'm don't bring it up very often because all the reasons I can articulate as to why I loved this game don't convey how much freakin' fun I had with it. It is probably one of the most enjoyable RPGs I've ever played.

In the age of Final Fantasy angst, the fact you were rewarded with choosing positive and persevering dialgoue paths was quite refreshing. You're a pirate dammit! Don't whine about how you can't do it or how hard it is!

I'm with you two. This one ranks up with my top five console rpg's of all time, easily, for all the reasons mentioned and then some. (look at my avatar...)

I'm extremely happy I found this game now, but it makes me sad that I missed Dreamcast the first time around... Not that the one unit I would have shipped could have saved the console...

I don't enjoy many J-RPG's these days, but I did thoroughly enjoy Skies of Arcadia way back when I played it on the DC.

I love this game. I've only played it on the Dreamcast but it's the only JRPG I've beaten more than twice, and one of the only three I've beaten more than once (the others being FF7 and Breath of Fire 2).

One of my favorite RPGs. Despite Aika's disturbing, neurotic clammoring of "that was fun!" after slaughtering other people in cold-blood (or maybe because of it) it's a great game. The ship to ship battles are nothing short of awesome.

Everytime I hear about another upcoming MMO I punch my fist into my palm, rise in a dramatic fashion from my chair, and say "Damn it! another mindless multiplayer bit of fluff doomed to failure, and still no sequel to Skies of Arcadia!" before sinking back into my chair and plunging my hand into the Doritoes™ bag for another delicious chip.

I agree, this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

I agree, it's a good RPG.

I've you try Tales of Symphonia. It's pretty good too.
But it was not turn base. The combat are really fast.

Now i'm playing Baiton Kaitos, not bad!
