I've heard that some betas charge a premium basically just to ensure that the people they get are the most enthusiastic group of players. Basically, $25 dollars keeps me from being a bad beta tester.

As for the "Day in the Life of", I'd like to do some kind of pulp hero. Spend time following leads, identifying targets, gathering materials to make my super hero arsenal (trick arrows, smoke bombs, web fluid, etc.) then actually going out and saving the day. something like Hero by Night, Batman the Animated Series (as opposed to more modern Batman), or even Dick Tracy with gadgets (besides just the wrist watch).

Another "Day in the Life of" that might be amusing: Classic Dungeons and Dragon's style fantasy heroes... after the big bad has been dealt with. I'd love to see how an epic rogue helps a little girl get her cat out of a tree. Or how Red Warrior handles solving issues without violence.

Fun podcast and Kate Craig was great (Allen was pretty good as well I guess.)

I think I've solved the whole 'medieval maid who rides horses' thing. Here is the scenario I envisage:

The owner of the castle can't stand the smell of cooking food so the kitchens have been built on the edge of the extensive grounds. As part of her duties the maid has to ride the food over to the castle. It would start with easy stuff like cold meats and salads. In later levels she would have to transport hot food, Ice cream and elaborately moulded blancmanges. Meanwhile the mean spirited gardener has decided he hates the kitchen staff and keeps planting hedges, topiary and other plant based obstacles along the maids route. Alternatively, you could go all gritty and have the maid riding through the streets of a village trying to ignore the wan faces of starving children as, wrapped in a tattered grey cloak, she hurries tureens full of pheasant soup to the waiting noblemen.

I may have over thought this.

My "Day in the Life" would be a graveyard shift security guard at some boring corporate or industrial site.

I imagine the game would last about 8 hours total - one shift. Replayability would be key, with the end goal to be to witness/report all out-of-normal occurrences. To spice things up, you'd also have to perform regular patrols every in-game hour.

I imagine the game would be highly re playable with an extensive achievement and easter-egg system - but for your average joe, sitting down the first go-around, it would seem immensely boring. I think it has a lot of potential.

I listened to a podcast on the escapist.
I'm so glad you guys have good audio.
Although I am a little spoiled.

like a dagger in my ear every time:

of course it turns out there are other audio clips with it the other way, I don't care

Gahh, Certis and Kate Craig should be ashamed. Both of them Canadians and not able to pronounce Sang Froid properly!!

As for my ideal day in the life, I would go with the guy in a high-fantasy world who is in charge of the zoo.

Day in the Life of:

Newspaper Editor

Dragon, Large (Smaug/Red Dragon from Dragon's Crown)

Dragon, Small (Takes up your living room)

Shambling Horror

Dude who wants to be a dragon but goes all Walter Mitty on you, so part of the time is playing in delusion-land, and the other part is you normal, and then another part where you just do things in a dragonly manner.

Cthulhu

Nyarlathotep

Penguin Commando

Reptilius

Can we get a game where you play as the slender man?

Hear, hear! Here I was groaning as I listened.
(disclaimer, not really, I realize French pronunciation can be a giant pain)

I'd seen Sang Froid on the Steam store, and it looked intriguing, but I hadn't really done a lot of digging. Interesting concept for a tower defense game!

Also, I think teasing Elysium about EU4 has become some kind of GWJ meme worthy of being entered in the goodjer commandments, at this point.

Was great having Kate back!!

Oh you pronunciation scoundrels! Shoo, don't make me get the hose!

I was drawing a blank on days in the life I'd like to experience but recently I hit a rich seam i.e. military history (although there are one or two things that don't necessarily involve killing people):

A Zulu in the Zulu wars.

A soldier in Wellington's army.

Travelling and fighting with Geronimo.

One of Cortez's conquistadors.

One of the first wave of settlers on Mars (Kim Stanley Robinson wrote and amazing description of someone stepping out of his domicile on a bright, still, Martian morning.)

As an assistant or friend who could watch one of my favourite artists (Claude Monet, Van Gogh, Vermeer, John Singer Sargent) painting.

1) Could this be a Quebec vs. France difference?

2) Skimmed your "day in the life" idea and sort of thought about the guy in the video as a fantasy zookeeper.

Oh there's most definitely a difference between the two, but not that big of a difference. The Québecquois have a more nasal pronunciation of the "a" in "sang".

Besides, Québecquois French ain't *real* French, right Mudbunny.

(Just teasing! We love our cousins!)

We love our cousins!

Québecquois French is like "ye olde times" French. Won't argue with you on the swear words, though I'm awful when it comes to that.

No, silly, he means Proto-Info-European, of course.

This could totally be the replacement game for Desert Bus. I can just see Loading Ready Run's "Night Shift For Hope" charity marathon now!

Couldn't this just be yet another level in Viscera Cleanup?

I don't recall if Sean went into detail on his astronaut idea... but I'd love a game that took you through all of the training they go through and then onto the mission in space.

That's generally what I had in mind.

You know, I considered taking it back that far, but I wouldn't want to imply that French had anything to do with germanic or slavic languages.
