Kick Baby New Year to the Curb, it's Old Man Pile for Us

Pages

Greetings and salutations fellow gamers. I'm hoping everyone had a nice extended play session with their games, both old and new. Since, it's the beginning of the year, and I bought a ton of discount games the last 6 weeks of 2008, my Pile of Shame is indeed still going strong. Let's get back into the swing of things and start finishing off some games.

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30]Dead Space

"Set in the 26th century, Dead Space revolves around Isaac Clarke, a space engineer who works for the Concordance Extraction Corporation (C.E.C.), a company that operates giant mining ships throughout the galaxy. When the C.E.C. receives a distress call from the USG Ishimura (a “Planet Cracker”-class ship that mines continent-sized pieces of a planet's crust in order to extract valuable ore), Isaac and four other C.E.C. employees set out on the USG Kellion to rendezvous with the Ishimura in orbit above Aegis 7." Ima put Dead Space in the pile.

I'm going to start off the year by taking a swing at God of War.

Alright. New Year's resolution, one game off the pile per month. Let's make it... Ace Combat 6 on 360.

Beyond Good and Evil. I promise this time.

We can do eet!

The tiny bit I have played is charming as hell, it shouldn't be too hard. I'm firing it up as soon as I finish The Witcher, and I'll alternate it with Dead Space.

It's all about the plan of attack, speaking of which, enough internet prattle. I'm off to join Geralt.

It seems hard to not finish BG&E. It's only an 8 hour or thereabouts game, no padding and the start of the game doesn't so much go from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds as it goes from 0 to 60 without even needing to accellerate..

Put me down for The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess on the Wii.

I really should get back to Lost Odyssey, but for Xmas I got given a copy of Deus Ex, so I think that'll have to be my pile pick for this month.

I'll jump on the BG&E pile this month.

The problem with this is that I'm a completionist with games like this - I NEVER just run straight through the main quest. Right now I'm stopping to collect every pearl and take every animal picture. I don't do it for all games: Assassin's creed, for example, was just stupid when it came to finding the flags; but when things are clearly indicated on a map and I feel like I have an honest shot of collecting, I do it. Really slows a game down.

The, um, Witcher. I'm actually getting back into it, though, so I'm hopeful. Seriously, baby, I'm not just sayin' that, I can commit!

Alright. I'm going after a big one: FINAL FANTASY X.

I've gotten close to the ending before, but for some reason once I got to the Calm Lands I stopped playing. After my PS2 died I obviously never had a chance to beat it, but now that I have one again I'm starting over fresh. I want to be able to say that I've beat more of this series than VII. Wish me luck! I at least know where I'm going so I don't think I'll get lost. I would add more to the pile, but I'm trying to stick to my New Year's resolution of only playing one console and one computer story-driven game at a time.

The Witcher is on my pile. I've started it but haven't finished.

I finished X-Com a while ago. I'm playing Fallout 3 next, though I don't know if you consider that too new.

Half Life 2 Ep 2.

Definitely a shame for me. Half Life 2 and Ep 1 I finished in pretty much one sitting each upon their release. I made it to the last part of Ep 2 with my old comp, but it just couldn't handle the last section and was unplayable. With my new comp I'm sure I can make it through this time. I've already started and the gnome is coming with me.

My consoles have been gathering too much dust. Put me down for Resident Evil 4 on the Wii as well.

I'd like to put Fallout 3 and Mirror's Edge on my pile. I don't think I am going to make much progress beyond finishing those two (<2 hours left in each) with L4D looming and a PDXLAN on the way this month.

Mass Effect then all 3 singleplayer campaigns of Company of Heroes.

I'm in for Dead Space and Fallout 3.

I'll give this a shot.

PC:

Bioshock (one more try to get into this game)
The Witcher (really going to happen this time).
Fallout 3
Farcry 2

PS2: (just bought one!)

Shadow of the Colossus
FFXII

- No More Heroes
- Star Ocean: First Departure
- Professor Layton and the Curious Village

One of these will fall this month.

Yikes Coldstream! Do you plan on getting up to go to the toilet this month? 6 games, and three of them big timesinks, assuming you're starting from scratch

Dead Space and Mass Effect for me. Both for the 360

Whoa, wait! I'm certainly not going to finish all of those in a month! That's my entire pile of shame, as far as I'm concerned. I've got some other pick-up-and-play games, but those are the ones I want to finish. I'm saying all of those are doable by...May.

Coldstream, you're asking for disappointment this month unless you've got a ton of free time.

List should be current

Edit - Yeah, getting interrupted during the post can make the follow up posts some out of touch.

Coldstream, pick a game or two for this month.

Also, I only really need the platform on the more obscure titles. If the game isn't platform exclusive, it will go under "Multi-Platform." A Google search will often turn up the platform if I can't figure it out too.

*sigh*

Crysis. I'm pretty much completely finished, but I'm having a hard time. Give me the strength to finish it and get it off my conscience!

Right. Um....The Witcher. That will be my goal this month.

Wii:

Super Paper Mario

Xbox 360
Blue Dragon

PC:
The Witcher EE.

List should be current and I consolidated the erroneous second Witcher PC entry.

Italics tag on my name is broken.
