Two quick notes --

Note the first -- With herr Andrich off to places European for a few weeks, I'm left to publish the show each week. I haven't done so for a while so please let me know if anything seems off with the show.

Note the second -- If you listen to the solo in the second break and think, "My God, that sounds like a clumsy, drunk man playing in the wrong key a solo he's only ever tried once or twice before," then I say unto you that you got it in one. Horrifying.

No problems with the episode for me Sean...

...aside from it selling me a copy of Coup. Every damn Rabbit Con episode I'm forced to buy a boardgame, this is a damn outrage.

You're killin' me guys A couple board game mistakes that need clarification.

Coup - by Rikki Tahta published by Indie Boards and Cards, is a 15 card deck and everyone gets two cards. It is won when everyone is eliminated by removing their two cards or influence as they are called in the game. Your actions require you to have the right card but you can lie about it unless someone calls your bluff. Max 6 players unless you have multiple sets or the Kickstarter edition best with 4-6 players.

Mascarade - by Bruno Faidutti printed by Repos Production. It plays up to 13, best with 8+ players. You can only look at your cards when you start and players can take your card and theirs and switch/not switch them under the table. On your turn you say you have a card and others can say they have it and whoever does gets the action. You win by getting 13 coins.

Both are light fun quick games and have a similar feel while remaining unique.

That game of Sentinels was definitely fun, but I think we missed a rule or two till halfway through. The rp was great, though

Yeah, I bungled the two in the podcast, although I think we caught the mistake after a time. But just in case it wasn't clear, Masquerade is the one I played this weekend, not Coup.

And much fun and madness was had.

ETA: Also, we recorded the podcast before I ended up playing my Game-Of-The-Con, Rampage. If I'd played it earlier in the weekend, my segment would have just been me gushing about that. (Monsters! Destroying towers! Throwing trucks! Eating people! A winning formula all around.) I swear Rampage is so much fun that Drunkensleipnir and I ordered a copy within minutes of us finishing our game.

Great episode (conveniently timed so as to inspire a gift for a friend's birthday!)

One little note, this is reading as episode 298 on apple podcast app (EDIT - and the top of this page). Not a huge deal, but in my sleep deprived state I thought that perhaps I was listening to a rerun, or that my memory of being in the upper 300s was false and the first sign of some sort of deep, unsettling insanity which would slowly grow worse and worse until up was down, day was night, and my sense of reality utterly shattered.

tl;dr - Moar coffee...

Did anyone else find that Rampage sounds so stupidly fun that they were compelled to look it up on Amazon?

Great show. Sounds like everyone had late nights this weekend..... or ate an entire bottle of whiskey (bottle included) to make for some gravelly voices!

HUGE CONGRATS to Cory!

Congrats Cory!

Coincidentally Demyx and I played demo copies of Hanabi and Rampage for the first time this weekend. Hanabi hurt my brain a bit but Rampage was goofy fun as they mentioned on the podcast.

I also liked Cory's impressions of Among the Stars. I'm a lot more interested in that now since it really sounds like a meatier (or is it crunchier?) version of 7 Wonders as Cory described.

If the meat is cooked well, it can both be meaty and have a crunchy outer layer.

just started listening; big congrats to Cory and the lucky lady!!!

may he never play a Zombie game alone ever again!!!

Congratulations Mr. Banks!

Aww, thanks everyone!

Congratulations Cory!

On the other hand, we all sound much more technically skilled when it's played at 1.5 speed.

Congrats again to Cory and Nicole!

Awesome episode, and sounds like yet another super successful Rabbitcon!

Congrats to Cory and Nicole!

And it was awesome having you back on the show, Lara!

In my own board game news, is it sad that only 2 of the games mentioned on the podcast (aside from Dune) are not already in my collection...?

I'm just going to pop in here to say that the GODLIKE RPG is not "fiddly" nor does it have "dozens" nor "hundreds and hundreds of stats". It has 7 (if you include Will). There are lists of skills and talents (superpowers) like most RPG's but I don't see those taking over the game nor slowing down gameplay much at all.

A couple other interesting things to note:

The game was created by Dennis Detwiller of Delta Green fame. The mechanics were created by Greg Stolze. Greg has also written material for Unknown Armies. Both these guys are among the best writers in the hobby.

The system is called the One Roll Engine because with one roll you determine (1) success or failure, (2) hit location and (3) damage.

HedgeWizard's son calls us CoryCole.

Congratulations!

Congratulations Cory.

For what it's worth, Hokra is my favorite Sportsfriends game. The developers call it 'True Hokra' when you control both players on a team with one controller and play 1v1. It makes it a lot more challenging, but I find it just as strategic and entertaining with 2v2.

You're entitled to your opinion, obvs. Mine is that the Godlike system is way more complicated and fussy than something I'd usually pick up for a one-off session. Then again, my favorite tabletop system involves a Jenga tower, so consider the source.

CoryCole is definitely adorable, but really, how can you beat MeLoveUrge?
