It has been released!

Play, and discuss.

Just found out about this.

It looks very promising. Something to keep up with. Here's their site.

This has been in development since the source engine came out. I really have given up on its release because t is a massive undertaking.

I stopped getting interested in that a long time ago. It's just another ambitious mod that has no chance of ever existing.

Has Valve thrown them a bone to speed up Development any? I'd love to play this in the next century if possible.

Yeah this is not new. I'm among many who kept tabs on the mod for what, a couple years? Only to eventually give up on the idea of it ever seeing any kind of release.

Maybe they should call it Black Mesa Forever.

And awaaaay I go.

Yep - i'll echo this sentiment. Though i really love the sample music they put together - i think it really suits the game.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing is the rule rather than the exception in the mod community. There are so many great ideas I've seen on mod sites that never made it past a few maps and some untextured weapon models.

I think they are keeping in step with valve and HL in general. Announce the game and develop it for more years then one can remember, release and BLAM instant re-hit!

Yeah, their dev blog isn't updated very regularly, but they're still updating it (last update yesterday), so that leads me to believe they're actually still working on it. It is a 12-hour game, as they pointed out, and I assume they have day jobs. I'd say it's a little premature to call it dead.

Yeah, they are still working on it, but it's so ambitious that it is unlikely to ever see the light of day, unless Valve decides to take pity on everyone and buy it out.

The mod has been basically declared DOA a couple of times since its inception four years ago, only to be dragged back out of the grave every 12-18 months for a media update. I don't know if the same people are in still in charge of it, but a couple of years ago when I was still involved in the mod scene there were abundant rumors circulating about the dysfunctional nature of the BMS team. It looks awesome but I have no expectation that it will ever be finished.

Wasn't there another thread on this a couple months ago? Regardless of that, the guys making this seriously need to crap or get off the pot. Either get it done or kill it.

I searched, but the search is crap.

Yea, it was a random thought. Could have easily been a case of Deja Vu.

The trailer is absolutely incredible. This should be a retail product so these guys can get paid for their work, god damn.

No kidding. Work something out with Valve, and throw it up on Steam for $10 - $20. That looks awesome.

Seriously. Wow, I hope they're not dicking us around with that "2009" business.

I wouldn't put it past them to use the same timing schedule...

I've been following this Mod for awhile now, and I really hope it comes out.

U5:Lazarus finally released? Damn, I stopped following that years ago. Now to dig up my Dungeon Siege disc (it was Dungeon Siege, right?)

Sorry for the detour.

The trailer on YouTube:

Boy, I'm impressed!
And Gametrailers has it up now.

That looks bloody incredible! I can't wait.

Wow, that trailer is insane. Someone at Valve should definately be paying attention to this!

With regards to the time it has taken them so far and the probability of release: I agree that fan projects like these are massive undertakings, but getting it out is not impossible. Ultima 5: Lazarus (Ultima 5 remade in the Dungeon Siege engine) took many years to create but they pulled it off in the end. Apparently they've now moved on to Ultima 6, the crazy fools!

Amazing! It would have me replaying the whole series in a heartbeat.

Maybe they can really go the HL2 route and release this in episodes?

I want to know how they are going to do the Xen levels. They are so completely different than any other HL or HL2 environment.

Oh man does that look tight.
The tentacle monster is SCARY.

Want it. Right now.

Valve seriously, buy these guys up, give them jobs and release this for $20. Many will buy it.
