Ahh but the question remains does it rotate?!?! Or better yet No-gravity mode?

Coin-op vibration.

Don't you mean the love-nasium?

Only in warp. When on impulse it vibrates.

Empire screened four clips with JJ. That sound you hear are Trekkies spontaneously bursting into flames over their precious canon being destroyed in their eyes.

I am speechless. We'll have to see if it works as a finished movie.

If these are real, Trekkers will have Abrams hanging by his toenails. These just sound too ridiculous to be true. Like someone trying to string together a story from the photos that have been released.

I, ummm....I guess we will see in a few months...but I am a lot, lot less excited now.

Perhaps the trailer in front of Quantum of Solace will be great.

These were from an official press screening in the UK run by the studio and hosted by JJ Abrams. I for one am intrigued. Part of the reason Trek failed was because of a convoluted canon and less interesting iteration after iteration that eventually got so far removed from the original show that people just stopped watching. Trek needs a serious kick its 40+ year ass and it sounds like the whole boots going up there.

I found this particular bullet point interesting (From Trekmovie):

Scotty explains that his experimental beaming worked on fruit but he said "didn’t turn out so well for Admiral Archer’s beagle"

He should have done that to the entire show.

Poor Porthos.

Oh that's f*ckin awesome. You just made my day.

And here's your brand new old Enterprise. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. It's hideous.

Maybe there was something on the lense?

The entire ship?

I think it's fine except for the over-exaggerated curve at the bottom of the "fuselage".

I've been doing my best to stay on media black-out for this but ...

The new director was not a fan of the original series in the first place? That can't be a good sign.

Wow. They reduced the secondary hull to almost nothing. I was hopeful that the nacelles would look suitably old school, based on the construction website they had several months back. Ah well. Judging by the spoiler scenes, maybe it won't be that bad, in spite of the ship design.

It looks...bloated, like the Enterprise got dumped and spent a weekend downing asteroid-sized bowls of Baskin-Robbins.

Scotty! We need a bran muffin in three minutes or we're all dead!

My heart weeps for this abomination of a movie, but you guys are friggin hilarious.

I think it's because the strut that attaches to the cylindrical lower hull is shorter, while that whole lower hull has been moved forward so that instead of the strut connecting just behind the dish it connects in the centre of that cylinder. I don't really like the warp nacelles either. I hate it when there are random blue glowy lights on things (apart from the extra intake valve shapes) for no good reason other than 'blue glowy lights are "in"'.

I was actually a real fan of the 'refit' Enterprise A in the films. I thought the rectangular nacelles were really cool and the proportions of the ship were good. But then i liked the Enterprise B, D and E designs as well as the Excelsior design. Never much of a fan of the original series Enterprise, but at least the proportion was good... it looks like (from the teaser trailer) that they've lifted the entire saucer section, including the command deck/bridge section, from the original series though.

But then i liked the Enterprise B, D and E designs as well as the Excelsior design.

Enterprise B was an Excelsior Class ship.

Then i'm thinking of C then - the one that had a special appearance in TNG for two episodes when the timeline was all messed up and they had to go back and sacrifice themselves for the greater good of the federation who were being beaten.

Yesterday's Enterprise was the episode. Enterprise C was an Ambassador class, the forerunner to the Galaxy class. It was only one episode, though. Considered one of the best of the series.

Here's a modeler's page on building the model kit. It shows from more than one angle, so you can see the similarities to the Galaxy class.

"Yesterday's Enterprise"... my favorite episode. And yeah, it was the "C". I have a model of the Excelsior that I built myself hanging above my head right now.

As far as the new Enterprise... it's not entirely all that bad. Not exactly what I imagined though. A little too iPod-y. It lacks the gracefulness of the "D", the NASA inspired look of the "TOS" / "A" and what the heck is the point of having the secondary hull at all if the nacelles are going to be sitting 5 feet away from the saucer section. I do think it lives up to Roddenberry's original vision of a "hot rod in space", I just hope they don't do the whole front-tilted warp speed passes during the opening credits.

EDIT - Looks like I need to watch that episode again. I failed my Trek Lore saving throw...

After getting really frustrated with the last series all I can say is... "really? more time travel?"

...slowly walks away

Maybe this is one of those alternate timeline Enterprises. Maybe? Hopefully?

I don't get all the hubbub. It looks fine to me!

Compare.

It has the swoopy-bottomed secondary hull from the B and C class, the nacelles are no closer to the saucer than they are in the C class, and as Duoae said, the saucer and riser are pretty much the same as the earlier models.

The nacelles are less cylindrical and more decorated.

I think the hubbub is about sticking to canon, and that it's kind-of hard to see how the Enterprise evolved into the TOS version from this. Star Trek fans are anal beyond reason about canon. It's part of the reason Enterprise failed as a series.

Look, I grew up worshiping TNG, but I couldn't care less about what the ship looks like. It looks ok.
Star Trek fans may be anal beyond reason about canon, but this should be on the bottom of the list of things they care about. How about bringing back some compelling story, or characters we actually cared about? I'll judge this movie when I see it, not when I see screens of the bloody ship.

Maybe this is one of those alternate timeline Enterprises.

That's exactly how I feel about the movie. It's not canon, it's not the Mirror Universe, it's a tangent. If I'm entertained for a couple hours, what more can you ask for.
