First Alcoholic Drink

Pages

What would you recommend?

A shot of Bacardi 151. Just to show you that any horrible drink you have after that still isn't as bad as that shot. Plus it will put hair on your chest and make women love you.

How about a Chocolate Choo-Choo?

Hah!

Technically, I had my first drink of whiskey when I was 3 or so.

First alcoholic drink ever? Jeez, if you haven't drank your parents' boxed wine out of an empty Sprite can while you and your friends camp out in the back yard then you have never been 15.

If you're all grown up and having your first alcoholic drink, I recommend a good Margarita. Combine that with a bit of good Mexican food and you'll be on your way to warm-tummy bliss.

I second what crashed said, that stuff is awesome. Either that or if you can go to bars get some Gladiators.

Well, besides getting taking drinks of my father's beer, which I didn't really care for, my first drinks were my mother's whiskey sours. As far as drinking on my own, my friend got a pint of southern comfort that we mixed with 7-Up at the ripe ol' age of 12.

I finally learned to really like beer in high school after many, many rounds of quarters and other ridiculous drinking games.

When I was 21, and started going to bars, I started drinking Gin and tonics. I moved on to Jack and Coke. I really like Greyhounds (Vodka & grapefruit) in the summer. Other than that, I mostly drink beer. Start out with a Guinness, and then stick with a decent wheat beer or a pale ale.

I got started on hard cider. I still prefer it to beer.

This list ought to do the trick.

Alternatively, if you're after a "doesn't taste like booze" type drink, Disaronno mixed with Coke tastes exactly like Dr Pepper. Or should that be the other way round?

I might actually try a hard cider. It has piqued my interest.

Huzzah! Around here about the only brand you can find is Woodchuck. I'm not sure what will be available in your area.

If you like chocolate milkshakes, and you like coffee, make yourself said milkshake and add a generous helping of Kahlua. Mmmm. I'd also second the margarita and hard cider recommendations.

Well how old are you, that's a major factor

I'd recommend an Argentine malbec with a nicely done steak.

Just don't start at all. You'll save money, brain cells, and it's really not as important for socializing as you might think.

But if you must, most everything will taste like cough syrup at first. Personally I like a decent beer. As in, not beer snob beer but not Keystone either. Try a nice cold Guinness.

Go with Maclay's LoL

I just wanted to try an alcoholic drink.

That's why I threw up that shot! Too much chest! ;P

I vote for a mojito. Tastes good, but has street cred because it was Papa Hemmingway's drink. Baring that a cuba libre or a whiskey sour will get you some quality liquor without having to develop a taste for it.

I'm still very much for the combination of alcohol and food. Beer with a slow cooked Knusperige Schweinshaxe or a juicy steak with a deep red wine. It makes the experience so much more memorable.

Why not make your first drink a positive one?

Curse you, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title!

Irish Car Bomb!

..First alcoholic drink? Truly?
My dad let me try beer at a young age, and since I hit 13, my family always offers me many a drink during holidays when we all get together.
Oddly enough, I've never been fond of drinking. I'd rather just stick with some soda or juice.

Up front comment about myself: I am a girl. I drink like a girl. More specifically, I drink like a girl who does not like the taste of alcohol.

I started with fruity things. I slowly went from alcohol soaked fruit to amaretto sours, and eventually graduated to Alabama Slammers. None of those really taste like alcohol.

As I grew out of college, I started to enjoy mojito's (strawberry ones are the best) and flavored rum with Coke. Vanilla rum continues to be my favorite. I have noticed that most of my favorite drinks involve rum because it has a slightly sweet taste, and I like sweet things.

I once saw a thing where you select your favorite flavors out of a list and then it matched you to a type of beer. Maybe there is something like that on the internet?

Thanks for the replies, good people. I shall muse over them.

Wait a sec, girls play games? And use the internet? I don't believe it.

I have to second the recommendations of the mojito. I do enjoy a good one, the problem is that if done wrong they can be awful (as is the case with just about any drink involving rum) so it's probably not a great first choice.

Ohhh... I miss Woodchuck. It was one of my standbys in Minneapolis, but sadly it's not available in Portland. Fortunately, there's plenty of good beer around here -but still, I can second a good hard cider as a first drink. Strongbow is one worth checking out, and I think it's available in a lot of different areas.

My 1st drink: I was 12. My Dad was out fishing when he found a can of Special Export in a Southern Minnesota trout stream, and he let me have some -apparently in an effort to keep me from drinking. ...It was not a tasty beer. His strategy worked on me until I got into college.

My fondest memory of early drinking was beer. Worst was rum. In the first case I enjoyed one. In the second I got sh*t-faced. Go with scenario number one whatever you do.
I tried my first beer with a buddy. It was a great bonding moment. Don't drink alone.

I'm in the mood for a Maclay's.

That would be nice, but not really a possibility. I will simply have to make up for it by getting a really good drink.
