SOCOM: Confrontation Catch-All [1.50 = Finally OUT!]

I picked up the game and I'm having a typically lousy time with it so far. The few rounds I've been able to actually play between the network problems and lockups have been fun though.

I'll try to come on tonight, PSN id is TiclooPyres.

Picked up Socom yesterday (got the blue tooth headset bundle). The game is a mess, and it is totally inexcusable.

Played several rounds, lots of lag, our team couldn't win a map even after completing the objective, finally after one of the rounds we were at lobby screen and my system froze or something. I couldn't do anything, waited for a several minutes and finally decided to just shut down the PS3.

The only smooth part about the whole experience was charging and synching the headset.

I will create a game. Send a message to Chrometech if you are interested. Hopefully there will be enough people to have a decent game.

Maybe another day.

Yea, starting at 8pm Eastern really takes the West Coast out of it. That and even East Coast folks don't start playing to 9 or so, after dinner etc. Usually a good start time is around 10pm.

I've been on playing for a while. Can't say whether I really like it or not yet.

I think, if I have a real problem, it's that I want this to be a much slower paced game than it is. Instead it feels even more hectic than counter-strike. I'm getting annoyed with people running at me full speed and firing, and getting me from fairly far distances despite me putting a burst into them from the M16.

In fact, the damage modeling is possibly my biggest gripe at the moment. I've put full three round bursts into 5 or 6 people now and only one of them dropped in one burst. Even Call of Duty 4 had a less forgiving damage model than that.

I'm on now and it seems to be running smoothly aside from an occassional hiccup. Is anyone else on and if so, add me - x93_confirmedx.

Also, do we have enough people tonight to get a GWJ room going?

I get your complaints, but I think this statement is nuts.

I'm on and playing right now - running great except for some little "server won't record stats" annoying pop-ups in the lobby.

I think all of the east coast people have taken off.

I'm East! Where'd they go? The night is young....

I tried logging in and again, couldn't. 3 days. Still haven't gotten past "press start". This is pretty ridiculous. In other news, I'm enjoying Dead Space.

What error message are you getting?

I'm looking for your folks. What East Channel? I see '93, Chrometech and Thin'. I was on West 11 and had some good rounds. I was on Quarantine. Great map. Good comm between folks. Lot's of fun. Deal is after the 6 round I got frozen and had to reboot. I read in the forums it might have some of when you chat. Some say nonsense, but I was scoping and chat and froze. 1 of 4 things he mention could happen. Probably Coincidence. Anyway, MUCH better then a before ('cept the freeze). Man I wish there was an easier way to get together. We have enough for a good squad of GWJ'ers (oh, yea, I didn't get on till the wife feel asleep. So 2230 PST. How can we really get together?

I meant, I'm on the east coast. I'm in East 12 - Elimination Medley right now and the room is running super smooth.

Couple of gamebreaking issues that HAVE to be fixed in the first patch:

Scopes don't work properly when crouched or prone. The scope is aimed as though you're standing
Not able to shoot over railings even when there's no yellow icon
Game doesn't save quick swap so it changes every round
Match making system and ablility to see what rooms friends are in with an option to join

Well I had several rounds late and all went well. Early on had a couple freezes. But then got into a good channel/room and played for about an hour or so. Good times. Got on Desert Glory map. Very cool. Then Urban Wasteland. Some great play. As I've mentioned before, very nice maps and when you can play, great experience. I just get fustrated that there isn't an easier way to group up. As it is, both in Clan and Friends it showed folks on-line when they really weren't. But nice to see Clan stats and such. (as 93 mentioned, Match Making! I mean this should of been a primary, from the start function).

I'd be up for more play tomorrow, day time. Evening might be busy as I will no doubt on Sunday. But I'll go look. Just try to post what Channel and then what room (eg. Ranked 8x8 medley etc.).

Fun!

What error message are you getting?

Network initialization failed. I haven't tried yet again today.

That was a big deal on Thursday, but since the work they did on the Server's Friday that appears to have gone away with allot of other network problems.

I really like the feel of this game. Weapons fire. Weapon fire on the environment. Weapn physics (on the whole.) Team cohesion (most the time you can get it). Maps are beautiful. I played America's Army for 3 years and for one reason or another this has the feel of that to a small degree (graphic-wise), but it has so, so much more to offer as far as MP functionality (but still falling short in prime areas that I'm sure will be addressed by a patch asap...hopefully). I just (yes, I'm repeating this again) wish they would get the match-making going REAL soon. It's fustrating.

That happens from time to time but just give it a few tries and you should get in without a problem.

Is the message system working within SOCOM? I've message *Legion* and '93 and never gottena reply (like, 'where are you' kind of stuff). What is a better or different way then?

Donan wrote:

Good question. I don't think there's any notification of receiving a message.

Might be a better idea to press the PS button and message from the XMB.

Donan wrote:

Yeah, there's no notification and no way to even check messages in game. This is stupid whose going to want to leave the game everytime they get a message. We should all be using the XMB for messaging.

O.k.Thanks folks. Anyway...I really, really like this game:>) I've played on every map now I believe and they all are great. Each a different challenge and reward. And man, when you have a solid team, there's nothing like complete team suppression against opfor:>) We just somehow have to find a way to get together and do this bad boy as a team.

^ Agreed. This is true Socom II reborn and things are going to be really sweet when the clan/communityfeatures are finally up and running at 100% and the glitches are fixed via the next patch!

I'm in US East 22 - 16v16 Ranked Medley if anyone wants to join.

EDIT: As soon as I hit submit, my game freezes and I've gotten another freeze since then

Considering it'll be awhile before I get my PS3, I'm getting this on the first day I have my PS3. I loved the SOCOM games on the PS2, and played them quite a bit.

Agreed with 93 and Donan. The reason we're still here in this thread and dealing with the early bugs is because the game is really, really damn good. I'm having so much fun with it when I get online. The last time I jumped into an online shooter and had this much fun was Team Fortress 2.

I am not too concerned with bugs because I'll be playing this game for a long time. My only concern is that the game may miss its window of opportunity to rope in some more of the GWJ crowd because of the early rough patches. I hope all the PS3 owners that aren't yet indoctrinated in SOCOM do come running back when the game is patched up to "where it should've been when released" state. I don't know why this game was slavishly tied to the October 14 release date, but I hope we can get back some of the other people that have tried the game once it is "complete".

This must be what an MMO launch feels like.

Hey guys I just grabbed my copy of Socom today. I'm just gonna say I'm super new to this game. I haven't played a SOCOM game ever. So ya looking to get into some good games with some of you. Friend me up on PSN my name is Inioth. See you guys in there.

Man, I just played some counter-strike recently. It's fast paced, but nothing like what I was seeing in the couple hours I spent in SOCOM. A sizable portion of the times I died were to people running straight at me as fast as they could, letting go on full auto with assault rifles. Sorry, but that's actually fairly rare in CS and I saw it multiple times in this. Most of the time in CS you have to at least take a pause in your movement, or reverse direction and fire in the split second that you're held still. There was none of that from guys that were killing the whole other team. They were just running everywhere full sprint. A couple of them were on the receiving end of an M16 burst at ranges where all three bullets hit easily, only to have them blast away as they keep running and kill me.

Not exactly tactical, which is kind of what I was wanting when I picked this up. I played the first two games, but not online. After doing a bit of hunting online I'm kind of seeing that this is what all of them have been like in multiplayer.

This can happen in any shooter, but I do believe this is more an anomaly in SOCOM. I've just not seen this happen except if you have a CQB. But not someone running across the grounds just plugging away. Was this in a ranked event with no respawns? That could make a big(!) difference too. If you are playing a server with infinite respawns, this isn't really SOCOM, just folks loosening up or just playing an 'arcade' style. Ranked event's have to be tactical, team orientated play or you just don't win. If someone is doing as you describe in a ranked server, the folks on their team will give them an earful or kick him...period! Also, I just couldn't stand that kind of game. First I just don't have the 'swift twitch' to play. And for that reason wouldn't enjoy it all. Second, frantic would frankly give me a headache in no time flat. I just ain't got it in me to handle these kind of games. BattleField: Bad Company I play, but it can wear me down after awhile even tho' I enjoy it. CoD 4 was way(!) too frantic for me. AND close quarter maps. (one of the many reason's why I like SOCOM. Maps are pretty large for squad, tactical play. With lot's of cover. Not Ghost Recon large, but larger then CoD and yet not as big as BF:BC either for there are no vehicles.)

Anyway, I'm way blabbing too much. Just give it some more time if you are up to it. Pick ranked servers. And see if you find a difference. Good luck.

Ok is it just me or is this game borked tonight? Every time I sign in it just tells me network initializing failed. Is this happening to anyone else? the game patched fine and ya just won't initialize.....I'm gonna go play some Dead Space and try again later...

Game is borked. Started a few hours or so ago after a couple days of smoothe sailing. I actually got into game, but had some freezes. Then the we get ready to start and get that 'merry-go-round' situation with names in the game queues coming and going. Could see it was happening all over because ranked games are always pretty full, but they wee zeroing out all over the place. Then disconnected from server over and over. Plus the box started showing up that stats etc. would possibly be borked because of server problems. I really thought we had this kind of stuff behind us, but guess not (unless they are trying to tweak it for some feature and it's causing problems. Well it's 2100 PST and no success still. I'll wait another hour and try and get back in. Gads. (also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but in the Clan area, it always(!) shows everyone on-line. You really need to go to the 'friends' menu to really see whose on (or kick out to the XMB to see).
