SOCOM: Confrontation Catch-All [1.50 = Finally OUT!]

Did anyone else pick up a copy yet? I'm lonely.

The new maps are pretty sweet. They're well-balanced and have several vertical levels with very interesting battles. So far I'd have to say Fallen is my favorite. DG and FrostFire are awesome of course except the female hostages on DG were replaced with the blue-helmet NATO hostages. I miss shotting camping with them in the jail cell. Now it's a sausage party.

I've been having trouble getting the Bluetooth headset set up so here are some tips:

1) Charge it completely before using. Plug the base into the PS3 via USB and then wait until it lights up red to use it.

2) After this, to sych it, hold the power button down for about 10 seconds until the red circle starts flashing. Then go to Dashboard>Settings>Accessory Settings>Manage BD Devices. Do the scan and the PS3 should recognize. The passcode is 0000.

PS3 update 2.50 is releasing tomorrow and will fix and issues with the mic and Socom. Things should be fine afterwards.

I'm disappointed that the party/matchmaking system, which some forum jockey falsely confirmed, is not present at this time.

Nor is there any way to join a friend's game, short of having that friend tell you exactly where he is (it doesn't show up in the friends list info as in previous games).

It's obvious to me that this stuff is coming. Choose "Briefing Room" and there's currently only one option: Custom Match. It makes no sense to even have that menu there if there's only one option (as I recall, there were other options in the beta but they were grayed out).

I would be satisfied if Slant Six communicated when we can expect party/matchmaking to be patched in. It's almost a certainty that it's all tied to PlayStation Home, but at least say something.

Wow, I didn't even realize that the party/matchmaking system isn't functional. And the fact that the friends list doesn't show what room people are in is idiotic especially since the name of the room isn't always displayed on in-game and lobby screens. In terms of the briefing room, the beta has an option for quick search and it's also mentioned in the booklet. I really wish there was an option so I could auto search for 8v8 ranked medley rooms.

Would you recommend to get it now or wait for the matchmaking system to be put in place?

I am so tempted about it but not sure it's hard to decide especially with everything coming out.

Well I don't expect it will take TOO long for that to get patched in (it can't be far away, the clan functionality needs it), and I don't expect the price will be any lower when it does. So it's up to you. If you don't need the new headset, the game will be sitting there on PSN whenever you want it.

In the meantime, we'll figure out a GWJ night and host private games or something.

I put that before everyone reading here: what's a good night for SOCOM night?

I'd say Tue. Oh and by the way, thanks for going SAS with the clan. I'm loving the IW.

No prob. I also promoted you to officer, I imagine that gives you basic clan managerial capabilities.

To everyone else: The clans from the beta were reset, so I have to re-invite everyone. I sent Certis and 93 invites already, everyone else, when you get the game, shoot me a message either here or in the game.

Thanks Legion.

By the way, firmware update 2.50 is out and this should take care of all mic issues and functionality.

That's enough to make me wait. It's completely unacceptable for an online-only community focused shooter to miss such basic functionality this day and age. Especially when I have so many other games to play right now. I'll wait for a patch.*

*Or I'll be a whore and pickup the headset pack tomorrow.

I'm with 93. I think some stuff was cut out just to make the 14th release date - some of it (like the clan calendar) was in the beta, and is still in the instruction book. I'd wager it gets patched inside of a week.

Legion, how do you like the maps so far?

Even tho' I won't get the game till later today, I went in last night to get the Network patch. But it just said 2.43. When's 2.50 coming for mic and such?

'93: Again, even at a cost reduction, what is the advantage of having the strategy guide? Does it have the map lay-outs? That of course is a good thing for hopefully it will help a bit in me getting the maps down. But what else?

Thanks.

So, after deciding I wasn't going to buy Far Cry 2 I ordered this.

I hate myself.

Cool! Sign up with *Legion* so you too can be a 'Squishy Brain' :>)

I've only played Crossroads and Fallen so far. Very happy with them.

I would still kill to get the Sujo/Enowapi/Sandstorm medley back. I don't think I've ever seen a map with more thought put into sight lines than Sujo. Just a brilliant piece of level design, and one of the things that drew me into SOCOM II addiction.

Ok Legion I picked up this game. I am SpyNavy on the PSN as well. Send me a clan invite or whatever. I will be spending some time between this and Deadspace on the 360 and Saints Row 2. Never played any of the SOCOM games before, but I am in. Cheers.

I'm in as well. I'm a Socom virgin, so I expect to get owned pretty badly.

I'm SO glad this game has customizable controls.

I haven't settled on my control setup yet, but I moved the camera left/right toggle to Left Stick (similar to GR:AW, I believe). I am a chronic camera-toggler.

I'm having problems settling a couple of other tweaks, as it seems that for controls that you "hold", the button's non-hold function gets triggered too (it doesn't wait to see if the button press is a hold or just a tap). I *really* wanted to move the weapon wheel to L1, where I could tap it to quick-swap, and hold it to bring up the wheel... but when I hold it to bring up the wheel, it also quick-swaps me, which throws things off when I try to quick-swap back.

Got it sitting on my desk. Will be in tonight PSN name is Stric9. Send me a clan invite when you get a chance Legion.

*Legion*, Updating to 1.10 so you can send me a SB invite. (Bluetooth takes 3 hours to fully charge so they say...so it will be bit till I use that. Although I can use my other one till then)

Well I've updated and had a corrupt Profile, so as they suggested I deleted it. The went on started the game again, and now I can't log into the servers. I went to check to make sure that the game made a new profile and it did. So I'm at a lost. I've tried several times (and I've checked the PSN status and it's green). Anyone have any ideas?

Judging by a big thread on the PS boards, a lot of people are having problems getting online. It's the REAL first day of action, so I imagine the server traffic is very high.

It's likely the case that the two issues you've had are completely unrelated. I had the corrupt profile thing come up the first time I fired up the game too.

O.k. Thanks. I was just going over to check on the forums. I started re-installing (which I now see wasn't necessary). I got home early to play, but looks like I may just have to wait till later till some of the East Coast folks log-off for the night. Best laid plans...

I might have it as early as tomorrow, but probably not until Friday afternoon. Expect me online then at the latest.

The guide has stats for all of the armory options, armor options, map layouts, game mode strategies, all map/mode specific strategies (i.e. Crossroads/Extraction), and even a section for custom modes people can try amongst themselves. A lot of the info in the guide is second nature to Socom vets but I still found the map layouts and mode information to be incredibly helpful. I definitely recommend this for people new to the series and those vets who like to have maps/map info handy since there aren't any in the game.

By the way the Bluetooth mic is f'ing awesome!!! I rigged up my settings so I wear the bluetooth in one ear and have my other headset on the other ear for all of the other game audio. It's a somewhat awkward setup but is working well for me.

So you recommend picking up the strat guide then?

I do for the reasons mentioned above. It's been helpful for learning the maps and deciding between weapons.

Well I finally got in for a few rounds.Awesome map. Awesome bluetooth. However a big box came up warning you that stats and such would not be saved because of server error. This was true for when I got done playing (just a short while), all my stats were still zero. I tried to send a message to *Legion* about an invite and it agained warned server wasn't working right and indeed, couldn't get the message to send. Anyway, that's neither here nor there for now. Playing was fun and did I say the map was...awesome...and...the mic was too:>) Can't wait till they get it together enough for stats, clan and etc.

How are you folks using the IW and be SAS to do it? I'm finding limited choices.

The IW is nice but stick to the M4A1 IMO. It's has virtually the same stats but less encumberance.
