LittleBigPlanet Catch-all

Am I weird for not wanting a beta code? I would rather wait. I feel like there is a reason we open our presents on Xmas....not before.

Really looking forward to the game coming out.

Spent hours today just watching tutorials. I still haven't built anything in my level. Mad props to the Mm folks for making the tutorials entertaining. That just lowered my barrier to entry on the creation process by quite a bit.

I got a second code, but I've already offered it to a friend who's not on these forums. If he's not interested, I'll offer it up here.

Usually I'd agree, but I'm treating this like a demo. I get one game for my birthday, and if it's going to be this one I want to make sure it's good.

So far I'm impressed.

It's weird, i didn't get any codes from my emails, despite sending them off early in the day yesterday. Wish I had some to share.

But we're in for a short run, the Beta ends Sunday Oct 12th at 4pm EST.

This has convinced my roommate to buy a playstation eye.
Seriously, we got a bunch of buddies from the floor last year on playing random levels and it was the most fun I've had in a long time.

What's the use of having a Playstation eye for LBP? I saw somewhere where you could import your own textures using the camera. Are there any other uses for the camera?

I've done it! I published my first level.

It's called "CSI: Miami" and it's essentially a quick joke for Prederick's benefit more than anything.

Please play it, and I hope you get a laugh out if it.

EDIT:
Since I don't think Pred will be able to see it in game (I don't even know if he owns a PS3) does anybody know how to make a quick YouTube video of the level? I don't have the means or the know-how to do it myself but I would love for him to see it. If you could help out I'd be eternally grateful.

I have a second code, and my friend hasn't gotten back to me. Since the beta closes this Sunday, the first PM gets it.

Have at it!

EDIT! Code's gone. Have fun building, Sivok!

Thanks doubtingthomas396. I just wish I wasn't already at work!

Everyone feel free to "friend me up"

Zoidberg and I hooked up for some non-voicechat fun and dove into some random levels. Is there some way to list levels by ranking or something? Scanning through the planet for something that doesn't completely blow is kind of a pain in the ass.

I think my favorite part of our 30 minute exploration of the levels is when he started filling my pad with flowers and managed to paste one right on my dude's head. I pinned him full of donkey tails a little later in sweet, sweet revenge.

If there's a better way to check rankings other than scanning around and seeing which levels have been played the most, I haven't found it. I hope that there's something to that effect in the retail version, there needs to be.

You looked good with a flower head-dress. I kept the tails on for the rest of the night. I thought they were quite fashionable.

I've got my headset charged up now, so I'll try to use it next time I play. I just haven't had a need for it since the MGO beta.

As for sorting, I haven't found a better solution either, but I have to think that there will be some system in the full game. It's been said before that we are running on very limited, fairly old code. On the plus side, if you have found a good level, and you want to play it with a friend, you can look for 'recent levels' which will show everything you've played lately and easily jump into a level that way.

When it comes to finding good levels, I think the greatest resource will be the ability to see what your friends have "hearted".

If all of the GWJ LBP players make sure to "heart" every good level they come upon, we'd essentially have our own little community-vetted list of top levels.

Agreed. I'll be sure and do that. I accept any and all friends requests from GWJ members.

This will be my first time playing an online game with any sort of community backing (ie, not dealing with random pub players). Squee!

Be gentle.

Yeah, we need to make sure to friend each other up. Between this and possibly Socom, I might be playing more PS3 online. I need to find some kind of headset eventually (I know LBP doesn't have online Coop right off).

It will have co-op play at the beginning. If I am correct, the only feature yet to come is the ability to create levels in co-op.

QFT. It's that way in the beta, you can play co-op online to your heart's content but try to open the editor and your internet buddy gets kicked to the curb. Certis, I'm looking at you.

Oh, I thought all co-op was gone. That's good that one portion of co-op is still in the game. Guess I need that headset sooner rather than later.

Get the SOCOM boxed copy. $60 game comes with the headset that will sell separately for $50.

That's the only reason I'm not buying SOCOM from PSN. I've preordered two SOCOM boxed versions so that my wife and I both get the new, snazzy, high-quality Bluetooth headsets.

You're basically getting SOCOM for $10 when you buy it like that. Pretty good deal.

Without further ado, I present to you:

CSI: Miami

Sorry about the shaky cam, I would have preferred an actual capture but I don't have the equipment to do that myself.

I was wondering what the beta players think about LBP's broader appeal, outside of the hardcore gamer demographic. Does it seem like Sony is banking on LBP to reach out to the casual/mainstream audience?

While at Comic Con I hung out at the LBP booth while waiting for LBP bags to be available and watched some attendees play. I noticed a lot of the younger crowd having a real hard time understanding what's in the foreground and what's just decoration. One kid got pretty frustrated when he kept dying because he couldn't figure out where to go. One of my fiancee's friends played around a bit, had fun, but then asked what the purpose of the game was. I couldn't really give her an answer, as I didn't know if LBP had a story at all, or some greater goal (something akin to collecting all the stars in Mario Galaxy). I pointed out that there would be a ton of awesome user generated levels out there to download, but she didn't really seem interested if there wasn't some kind of purpose to it.

While I could chalk it up to her just being a party pooper, I wonder if anyone else is asking or wondering these kinds of questions while playing the game. We could look at the recent success of Spore as a game that, past getting to the center of the galaxy, is mostly driven by the community aspects. But I wonder if LBP can execute on that similar premise.

GOLD. f*cking GOLD, zoidberg.

I'm a little disappointed. I thought it was going to have some little speech and then the music...

I wish, but at the moment such tools do not exist. Hopefully the retail version will allow for importing sounds and such. I would have loved to have the Roger Daltrey scream.

As a bonus, anyone who completes the level gets the motorized David Caruso figure as a prize and the zombie sackboy doll. I think it would be awesome to see other people working David Caruso into their levels.

Holy Jeeze PSN downloading is SLOW... Yep, just filling captain obvious' shoes for a moment.

I've sent PSN friend requests to several of you, please feel free to send me one too. I'm getting the headset that comes with Socom, so on Oct. 21st (or 22nd) I'll be ready for some LBP action.

Yeah. Anyone that wants to play with me (PSN: Legion_SB) and the wife (PSN: Sahara_Chill), add us. The wife's been waiting for LBP for a long time now... and we'll both be on SOCOM too, of course.

I love this game.

I am very unimpressed with some of the menu stuff, though.

Someone clue me in:

(1) Is it indeed not possible to rate a level unless you've COMPLETED it, even if you've played it? So, if something is a near-uncompleteable piece of crap, I have no way of telling people it's a near-uncompleteable piece of crap unless I do the impossible (and undesirable) and complete it?

(2) WTF is with all the blank tags? "Pick a tag for this level: (blank) (blank) Annoying (blank)" ??

(3) There's no way to search for "most hearted" or something like that?

If anybody gets a chance before the beta ends, I made another level, it's called 'The fuel tank'.
