Comments

Would have been nice if Nintendo had given me a heads-up before they announced the March 2011 date for the 3DS.

Remo? Sweetness! Well done guys. Can't wait to listen.

I keep hearing the comments that 3D won't succeed because people won't buy the TV or the glasses, etc... What I think people don't realize is that mostTVs going forward are going to start supporting 3D natively. Most TVs will come with at least one pair of glasses. The entry barrier right now may seem high but in 2-3 years 3D will be in a lot of homes and then the barrier to entry is a lot less. We are at the beginning, we are the pioneers.

Pioneer might be a bit of a stretch ... it could be people who buy in early just have too much money. 3D with glasses is just such a crappy experience, especially when you consider the alternative of seeing it without having to stick a heavy pair of glasses over your normal ones. 3D will remain an exclusive, high end niche until the glasses are gone, there aren't major viewing angle issues and it's standard on TVs. By then people who only just dropped $800+ on their first HD sets ever this year might be ready for a new one.

It won't be anytime soon and I'm not fully convinced it will ever be the standard outside of theaters. It definitely won't be soon enough to have any real impact on the gaming scene for this round of consoles.

There is a problem with this train of thought. I'm already done with 3D in the movies. the fad was fun. But I have no desire to see another 3D movie for a long time. I'm sure there will be the occasional movie where it seems right. But not only am I not willing to pay extra for 3D, I would pay more for the non-3D version of most of these films if push came to shove.

3D is far from a better way to watch TV. Many view it as an annoying and intrusive way to watch TV. It's not that we don't have glasses, it's that we don't want to wear them.

Yessssssssssssss Chris Remo! Can't wait

Live sports and hotel porn--that's what will keep the 3D TVs going.

Dead Nation--different from Zombie Apocalypse how?

edit: just watched X-Com trailer. Is BP attacking suburban 1950s America?

While this is true (heck, I've seen some nice DLP sets that have shutter receiver ports on sale), I'm crazy wary about adoption of this now because 1st gen pioneers tend to get crazy screwed on tech.

I got burned with the HDDVD/BluRay war. Never again!

//Oh, and we're forgetting that as supported as the 3D movement may be, as long as you need glasses you're alienating a huge audience. Back in my roommate days, one of the best timewasters around was to plop on the couch and just watch. Watch a movie, watch someone play games... that's effectively neutered with this gen of 3D.

There goes the whole "lose 20 minutes watching someone play FFXXII" aspect of gaming.

You spooked me when you said "Gamasutra".... I was afraid you had Leigh Alexander on

Cory you lucky SOB and your close proximity to Felicia Day! That would've made the trip for me.

Woot! The return of Boost Remo.

I just bought an HD TV last year, like many people did. This TV will last me at least 7-8 years or until it is dead... the industry is a bit too late for their 3D TV sets

Remo! Awesome. The only way this could be more awesome would be Remo and Rodkin.

Can't wait to get home!

I got about halfway through the CC on my commute in this morning. So far, this one is really, really good, especially when Chris opens up a bit.

That Giant Bombcast was a trainwreck, I could not listen to it after a while. Some people should watch how much they drink when in semi-public...

Dear Chris Remo,

Rage - sold.

Thanks. When it's released it can go on the pile with Far Cry 2, which I probably still won't have played then either.

Agreed, it just sort of disintegrated into an embarrassing mess. Although I always enjoy hearing Paul Barnett, with his particular brand of "very slightly insane, but in an awesome way."

Looking forward to listening to the new Conference Call. I get a kick out of Chris Remo.

I don't listen to the Giant Bombcast, but Leigh Alexander is a blast when she gets drunk with Kieron Gillen on RPS. Not the same chemistry on Giant Bomb?

Baboo.

Nah she was just loud and shouting over everyone. Strangely enough most of her shouting involved her attempting to apologise for being obnoxious on the E3 Giant Bombcast last year.

Yeah, she was just a wee bit too loud. I really enjoyed the Bombcast from E3 day Day 2 though. I haven't laughed that hard at a podcast since...well, probably the last time I listened to Idle Thumbs

Great episode.

Just started listening. Internet High Five to Remo, because I also did not see Avatar.

I'm sure she's a very nice person but, alas, her voice cuts through my brain like a buzzsaw, especially when drunk and loud.

Also, do we have to take a drink every time Demiurge claims he's rubbish at game X or Y, I'm sure there was at least 3 in a row there

Cory's mating dance, now in .gif form!

Her claiming that the Activision CoD party was paid with $750,000,000 out of Kotick's pocket was great, though.

Shawn, re your comment, who still couch co-ops? I can't wait to get home and couch-co op, it's a blast and a good part of my gaming. As a female gamer I've never gone online to multi-play, heard of too many bad experiences, plus I'm probably not good enough anyhow. I've a couple friends who also love couch co-op, all girls though and Borderlands rocked the best by far. Listening to the pod-cast as I write this, as always, great stuff. You guys are awesome. Fab dance Cory ... ta, Rat Boy.

The couch coop thing was more a question of which mode has more players. A lot more people play online than with local friends at this point. Why not just do both?

I don't really understand how it can be said that the Japanese game development community as a whole isn't progressive in the same podcast that gushes over games like Rage and Civilization V. There's every bit as much innovation and stagnation in the mainstream Western development community as there is in the Japanese one; that is, little of the former and much of the latter, here and there. The industry as a whole is extremely conservative with very few, dim lights of radical design.

But this is a conversation we've had around here before.

I am nervous of going online and being the dreaded drag-down in a game and don't know the protocols of going online, how to match up with people on my level, guess mostly don't want to make a fool of myself. That said I'm listening to you talk about Rage, and hope that has couch co-op, and even if it does not, it sounds very cool and added to my list. (my hands shake just thinking about going online lol) I know online is hugely popular and wish I could have that sort of chutzpah.

This is not solely directed at you, Cory, but am I the only one who thinks that it's high time that we-- by which I mean nerds in general-- get over Felicia Day? I mean, I get it, she's a pretty redhead who likes games and nerdy stuff. But some of the fan-gushing over her starts to get a tad stalkerish and creepy at times.

Wait, Cory was in the dancing video? I thought it was just the girl with the hat and the holes in her pants.

The way I see it..I don't gush over her anymore than I do over my handful of other "celeb crushes" in the music/tv/movie world. Doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me. And for every Felicia Day forum post I see I can usually match one or two of my female friends who have a poster of johnny depp or the like above their bed.
