I was hit by a car tonight

My apologies, DSGamer. I got carried away with rants, which clearly do not belong in this thread (some would argue, any thread).

Although as I feared there don't seem to be any games right now, aside from PSN stuff and BC PS2 games, that differentiate a PS3 from a 360, as far as I can tell. Maybe I'm missing some gems.

Cue Certis and his oft-professed love for Metal Gear Solid III (emulated) and IV (native).

As far as the PSN stuff goes, I recommend checking out Pixeljunk Eden. I've found it fantastically relaxing with its music, but the gameplay is still engaging in a Bionic Commando kind of way.

I think I've probably asked 10 different ways (and complained more than that) about how to find relaxing games for the 360. It turns out the answer was to buy a PS3.

I bought Pixeljunk Eden. It was one of the reasons (Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and Little Big Planet being the other reasons) I even wanted a PS3. I got hooked on it tonight. What a beautiful game. I played it past my bedtime (i.e. my wife was asking me to come to bed for the first time since the wreck). Very very beautiful game. Very relaxing.

Like I said... a few months down the road when I'm (hopefully) healed and not thinking about the traumatic aspect of the accident I'm sure I'd be happy to debate my opinion on bikes and their place in the world. But not now. And not in this thread. Apology accepted, time to move on.

Yeah, I attempted to start down that path a while back. I bought MGS1 and I couldn't finish it. It was too much. I can't imagine playing all 4 games.

Man I heard about this last night but I have been so busy, I haven't had time to post. I am glad to hear you are doing relatively OK. I hope your recovery is quick and everything turns out alright.

Knowing your love of co-op and how much fun you had messing around in Forge from Halo3, I think in October when Little Big Planet comes out, I know there will be one very happy DSGamer. I think that is the game that will push me over the edge on buying a PS3.

Oh, believe me, I know. Honestly, the system is already worth the money because of the giant grin PixelJunk Eden put on my face. Little Big Planet will seal the deal. The next Team Ico game will send me over the moon.

DSGamer, have you had a follow-up visit yet about your spine? Any verdict?

Elysia wrote:

Yeah. I was supposed to follow up in 4 weeks (wear the neck brace until then) for my spine. They think it's torn or strained tendons. That's what the MRI indicated. However, I went and saw my primary care doctor yesterday. So she is going to help co-ordinate care and PT as well. I have an appt. next Friday with an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) to discuss my breaks in my nose and cheek. High likelihood (at least from how I feel) that I have to have a septoplasty performed again.

We'll see. So far just healing and waiting. My primary care doctor, while more hopeful of a good recovery, said I shouldn't go to work next week. She didn't want me to. So I'm staying out of work next week. I have the vacation/sick time for it, thankfully.

I'm really sorry to hear about this man. Get well soon!

I always forget how harsh sick leave is on your side of things. Work wouldn't see my ass for weeks!

Are you in any pain? If not is it because medication is controlling it, or are you just not in pain period?

(Hope the answer to the first is a no)

Enjoy your PS3!

Pain meds are controlling it *ok*. When I'm not on them I'm often in pain still.

Hey, enjoy the meds; getting injured is never fun, but might as well make the most of it.

Seriously though, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Be *very* careful with the meds. Pain meds-- especially those you're taking for back injuries-- can be super addictive. When I used to work in a pharmacy we had to keep all the schedule 2s locked up and we had to take them out and count each individual pill every couple of months.

I hope your follow up goes well. Good to hear your thumbs are fine

I am being careful because I don't want to be habituated. I try not to take any pain meds if I can help it, in part because I want them to work when I need them, but also so I don't become reliant on them chemically. Trying to figure out when and if to use them is hard right now. I feel bad still, but okay enough to be off of them currently.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. That's good to hear. CIIs can be nasty.

May figuring out that you don't need them anymore come swiftly to you, sir.

Continued prayers and best wishes for your recovery, DS.

And for what it's worth, Chicago law expects bikes to be on the road and obey all the same vehicle rules as everyone else (signaling, stop signs, one-way streets, etc.).

You've given up biking and are going to hitchike from now on?

Hey man, I've been googling and I think I finally got the name: Heliopsis helianthoides. In Spanish it's called Chilicuau (some people call it chilcuague, in English it's refered as False Sunflower), it's a stem but the healing properties are downright magical.

Back in the day, when I skated (on the streets, not sure how to say it in english) I fell more than a couple of times (face first in some cases), not a single scar thanks to that plant.

If you can find it, it will help a lot.

(I know I'm sounding like a witch doctor or a herbal hippie of some sort, but you should really look into it).

I have also found plants in Mexico that made me feel better.

Some of my friends buy plants from Mexico that can make you feel better. What a coincidence?

(How did I miss this till now?)

Less talk more Shop!

I'm thinking you need one of the cars from Death Race to get around from now on.

hehehee the thread is back on track, or not!

Wow, I guess being late to the party of well-wishers is my punishment for not checking the site for most of a week. Glad to hear you're okay-ish and all, and the photoshops are just golden. You should print them out and make a scrapbook, maybe put them in a photo album so when you're all old and forgetful you can remember the good old days when you were a space marine, a Sith Lord, and a Heavy Weapons Guy.

Quick update. Doing a little better. Found out today that both of my cheeks are broken, in addition to my nose. Still in the neck brace, waiting for that to heal and to see the long term prognosis on my back, spine, etc. Tomorrow I see an ENT about my broken cheeks/nose.

The main reason for my update, though, is that I received the card you guys got for me (I assume at PAX). I was very happy to see it come in the mainly. I almost actually LOLed when I saw that it was addressed to DSGamer. It made it to my house fine, so I suppose it's alright to do that. Anyway, thanks for all the wonderful thoughts. Especially you, Zero, with the recommendation on Backwards Compatibility. BC has been a healing force in my life now that I'm no longer being obsessive about my systems/games.

Seriously, though, it was great to hear from everyone. Hopefully next year no cars run into me and I can meet some of you at the next PAX. Thanks. You brightened my day.

Goodness gracious :S
Hours later you're already posting
After I face planted into the rear view mirror in a car wreck earlier this year, the last thing I wanted to do was get online
But I did think about getting something awesome with the insurance money :]
I hope you recover quickly!

Holy cow. I need to visit the forums more often. DS, I am so sorry to hear about your accident, and glad to see you are recovering and in good spirits. My thoughts are with you.
