Anyone have a link to the story about BioWare monitoring ME2 usage? I'd be interested in seeing if they base it solely on who you use in your squad or do they take into account who you talk to. Mordin, Thane, Jack, and Samara are probably some of the most interesting characters in the game and I spoke with them often, but I barely used them at all on missions.
I wish you guys would stop encouraging him.

Wow. I just spent 10 minutes looking and I couldn't find the link. My Google-fu is weak.
Did we just make that story up?

Do the translators have a website? The translators of Mother 3 had one where you could download the English patch but they did not offer the ROM itself.
I broke the podcast!

Well in the options menu for ME2 there is an option to turn on/off uploading stats.

Good show! Hopefully some StarCraft talk next week?
That would be awesome, but I don't think anyone has keys yet. BLIZZAAAAAAAAAARD!

Nevermind.
Professionally offended. Does not understand jokes. Needs a man to explain them to me.
"Hey, cool, they mentioned HardWar... Perhaps I should suggest Space Rangers 2 as a spiritual successor? Oh, hey, they just did!"
Two obscure (and great) games in one conversation with a dollop of mindreading thrown in. Most excellent.
Edit: Oh, and Hardwar _was_ multiplayer. It was, indeed, like a baby Eve. But much, much more fun.
First the awesome Civ 4 song when listening to this podcast during lunch, and then when I got home I checked RPS to be greeted with the awesome news of Civ 5 this fall... tears of joy weren't far away. Thanks for a great podcast!
Just leaving my thanks on recommending the Christopher Tin album.

I panicked when I realized you were including the song, as I feared that hearing it at 2x speed would ruin it. Nope, still awesome.
Words... are a big deal.

On BS2: I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to comment, but I will say that I really enjoyed the last several levels.
On Christopher Tin: Thank you for the link to the album - there are quite a few tracks off of it that are just amazing. A word of caution for all of you purchasing a digital download off his site: if your transaction initially fails, wait and see if you get an email that it actually succeeded. (If the site does bug out and you end up getting multiple purchase emails - just send an email back. Chris personally responded within an hour of my mishap and cleared it all up.)

I wrote a letter at the end of December, and was so hopeful that this episode's reading of the backlog would air it. Alas, my hopes were dashed.
But great episode, as usual. I was especially interested in the discussion of Dante's Inferno, as I can't help but want to play that game. I will probably wait for a good price or a good trade on switchgames.

Hmmm, why does the Name That Tune contest sound like there were more than 5 different songs? I was counting them between fade-outs and it sounds like there were 6 tracks...or was the first song simply an intro track?

There's six, Tempest misspoke in his intro.

I've heard developers say in interviews that the only usage metrics they have access to for 360 games is the achievements earned. So some analysis of the achievements can be revealing - how many people actually got all their crew members loyal in ME2, for instance.
So I wonder if Bioware are only getting those metrics from the PC release. And if that's the case, I wonder if that would reveal a different set of behaviours from us unwashed console jockeys.

Regarding Hardwar, the only game I can think of that is similar is Eve Online. I played the demo for a while as a miner and found mining, buying, selling, and trading to be lucrative and fun. There are a few major differences, like direct ship control vs. Eve's less direct control, and Hardwar's smaller scale. The demo is free, and the game looks great, so I suggest anyone looking for something similar give it a try. I ended up playing the free two week demo four times with different characters.
Alternatively, there's Taikodom, a free to play alternative being developed in Brazil. I haven't played it but it gets good word of mouth. There's a write up here.

I haven't played Hardwar, but I can speak to one massive negative of EVE: everything happens in real time, and that means that everything is REALLY DAMN SLOW. Also, as in any MMO, you're limited by the fact that the universe has to exist in a nearly identical state for every single player; there are certain things you simply can't do (e.g., become the space pope and conquer the galaxy).
A single player EVE-like game without EVE's tedium or the limitations mandated by its multiplayer environment would be pretty appealing to me.

Looking forward to checking out Space Rangers 2! From what I saw in my brief look at the game, it looks like there are some RTS elements thrown in - which is great, since I love that genre as well.
There's apparently still quite an audience for HardWar out there. I've found a couple good community sites with all kinds of mods, etc. available:
http://www.hardwar.info/
http://zedo.hardwar.org.uk/
Interesting find! For whatever reason the page wouldn't load in Firefox, but I'll try it again at home in Safari and see what happens.
Speaking of EVE Online, I saw a documentary on TV some time ago about a guy who was something like $100K in debt and made it all back by creating an in-game empire in an MMO that I *think* was EVE. I'd never heard of the game at the time, so I'd be curious to go back and see the segment again. Unfortunately, I can't recall the guy's name or the name of the program, and Google didn't help. Anybody else seen this?
EDIT: Nevermind. Found it. And I had the wrong game, too.
This contest is killing me! I know song 2 and 4 without a doubt, and I know the last one as well but I can't remember the name! Ugh, I can mentally visualize the scenes where that song plays, what's happening, and even the characters... but not the game!
This is going to keep me up at night.

Yeah, it's quite hard. Not only does it mix PC and console game music, but at least one of the pieces I recognize is almost 20 years old. You REALLY have to have been playing A LOT of games for a couple of decades to get all of these.

The site was down when I posted it. It's up now.

I found a Youtube video with the Civ 4 music and have been listening to it as a loop in the background for the past few hours. I now have a huge urge to play the game.

I added a song after I recorded my intro and forgot I specifically said five. Sorry!
The oldest song on there was released in 1993. Wow I feel old.
"Hospital bill"? What the heck are you talking about? Ah, "toque"—back to real English words I understand!
