"Left 4 Dead" Catch All

One of the big reasons I've been jumping into TF2 lately is to brush up on my online coop skills. I am unbelievably excited for this game. I can't believe how much better the game looks everytime I see it.

I think that also puts it on the 10th anniversary of Half Life.

Left 4 Dead is going to be released on the tenth anniversary of Half-Life, our first game, so that will be on November 20th, the third week in November. :cough:

I consider myself corroborated.

Also, there is a playthrough with Gabe Newell up on IGN, which is looking great. One interesting thing to note, Zoey and Louis are both AI controlled, and do a great job.

That was a pretty terrible playthrough. I have yet to see a playthrough where the people playing didn't seem to really suck.

So what you're really saying is that they should get a contract with the GWJ community so they have competent players showing it off? I agree!

Correction. It will be released Tues Nov 18th

Wouldn't you rather have...

People have been reminding me about how long you could play TF2 on Steam before the official release on Orange Box. This leads one to think (or hope) that perhaps a Nov. 18 release date will have an "open beta" available just in time for Hallowe'en for those who pre-order on PC.

No thanks. I've already got one.

But how long until she becomes a zombie stripper and tries to eat your brains? I hope you have a carefully-worded shotgun ready to hand when that does happen

....are you saying that combining Hot chicks and zombies together doesn't make an inherently superior zombiehotchick? Blasphemy!

I'm just waiting until they open up pre-orders on Steam, open beta or not.

Amen. I am pre loading this as fast as I can.

"Shotgun," of course, is one of my favorite spondees.

I think this will be this year's "Hellgate London" for me: the game I take the chance on and preorder, hoping it plays out to be as fun as it looks. Even though HGL was disappointing in several ways, it still ended up fun overall and I got my money's worth out of it.

Wordsmythe, I hope you know I just looked up spondee. Why must you make me learn? Why?

Damnit, now I have to go look it up too...
The learning! It's contagious!

spon·dee – noun Prosody. a foot of two syllables, both of which are long in quantitative meter or stressed in accentual meter.

So we can all join in on the learning.

Be careful, guys. If you go looking for meter in everything, you will find it, and then you will go insane. It's like looking for the number 17.

Wordsmythe gives you the first hit free, but soon, you'll want to know more, and then Katie bar the door.

You're evil Nyles.

You're thinking about 17 right now, aren't you?

Or ARE you THINKing OF a MEtered LINE?

(A weak line, but you get the idea.)

Apropos of zombies and writing, there's a real-life publisher looking for a zombie novel to publish, deadline end of October.
I read about it on Tor.com, so it must be true

And now to our previously scheduled programming:

Wordsmythe, dreaming of shotguns
Dooming colleagues to obsess
About syllabic construction.
Whoops! To digress less - let's discuss undead!
Before my coffee, there's a certain similarity.
Here's a test - assess spondee quantity
In this sad mess.

And for our contest - count my spondees!

AAHH!!!! 17 'e's!!! RUN!!

Edit: Thanks Nyles.

Next stop, Villanelle Town!

Actually, no, I was trying to figure out if "number" is a spondee.

Or ARE you THINKing OF a MEtered LINE?

I hate you, Wordsmythe.

Left for dead, we rise to live and fight
The zombies bark upon the close of day
Our muzzles flash to mark their final night

The brute throws boulders with terrible might
The witch frightens us and we run away
Left for dead, we rise to live and fight

Survivors heal the wounded, hear the shrike
Keen sadly at the close of day
Our muzzles flash to mark their final night

Running from danger, our chests tight
Our breaths short, our shotguns slay
Left for dead, we rise to live and fight

Cornered by horror, still there is a light
Bright eyes that see beyond the close of day
Our muzzles flash to mark their final night

Ragtag survivors, struggle still in flight
From horrors yet unknown, but come what may
Left for dead, we rise to live and fight
Our muzzles flash to mark their final night

So does anyone know how match-making will work for PC? How many games/players will one server support?

All I know of Valve Multiplayers are CS:S and TF2. Where one server supports a higher amount of players.

I am assuming that Valve won't provide their own servers. If one server only supports 4 players at a time.... Am I going to have my own server for this game?

If this game gets the same support from our community as this forums seems to boast we are gonna need like 20 community servers.

Jakeleg's server host 28 players and it doesn't cover us. (kinda) Some of us have to play refresh fortress.

With only 4 players it may be feasible for games to be hosted by one of the clients, sort of like the 360 does it.

Really, though, I have no information other than that I hear Valve is working on an honest-to-goodness matchmaking system for L4D.
