Mr.Green

Before you read this profile, I think it's important to point out that Mr.Green is from Quebec. That's like a beret away from being completely French. Don't hold that against him though, there are plenty of non-language related reasons to hate Mr.Green. Oh, I'm just kidding! He's like a poutine puppy.

Yes, I'm aware that a puppy covered in cheese may not be great either. Just read the damn profile.
Who the devil are you?

My name is Hugo Tremblay and I'm a 32 year old teenager living in Quebec, Canada. I've been gaming and programming since I was about 12 but I was a casual gamer for the most part. I've really joined the uber geeks club when I discovered you could play Quake on the Internet somewhere in 95-96. I liked it so much I started to design maps and make modifications to the code. I released my first level for LMCTF, a Quake 2 mod I played like it was my job, as part of a community map pack. A little after Quake 3 was released, the LMCTF guys started to work on a version for it and they asked me to join the team as a programmer and level designer. I worked on the Alliance mod for two years spending probably way too much time on it but damn it was fun! As a highlight the mod made the cover disk of PC Gamer and two other mags in Europe. I also worked on a smaller mod for Soldier of Fortune 2 named International Crime Syndicate and I'd really like to release something for Half-Life 2.

That's probably a lot more than you wanted to know but where am I going to brag about this if not on a gaming site huh?

What are you supposed to be doing during the day when youÂ're reading GWJ?

What are you trying to insinuate here? I only come here at night and on the weekends. But if you want to know what I do for a living then I'm an IT guy working in the only nuclear power plant in Quebec. Damn I always start typing Quake when I want to type Quabec... See! Anyway, these days I mostly write Java web apps and I love it.

When youÂ're not working or gaming, what do you do with your time?

Well besides spending time with my lovely SO, I'm training in a boxing gym 3 nights a week and I'm playing golf in the summer. I should get back to hockey pretty soon too, hopefully. I'm playing Guitar and Piano once in a while too.

How about family? Do you have any kids?

Not yet but we're working on this. I still have AT LEAST 9 months of gaming ahead of me. ;-)

What was your favorite game over the last year or so? Why?

Game? With no s? Tough call but I'm gonna go with Half-Life 2. I had written Halo 2 at first because of its stellar online features but Half-Life 2 is just too freakin' good to not win every single Game of the Year award this year. Mine included. I don't have to tell you why, you know why.

Which game are you looking forward to most?

Well I've been looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever for about 7 years so that HAS to be the game I'm looking forward to the most but seriously, F.E.A.R. comes into mind first so I guess it's a valid answer, the next Zelda looks very promising too but honestly, I'm looking forward to finishing the 154 games I already have.

What is your fondest gaming memory?

Too many. The mod stuff, when my parents gave me my Coleco Vision console, Arcade Games, Quake 2 LMCTF clan matches, Eternal Darkness and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance with my girlfriend, LAN parties, console games with buddies, making fun of PC gamers back when I had an Amiga 500... Hell, every gaming night with the GWJ'ers could make that list.

Finally, why do you play games at all? Why havenÂ't you outgrown them?

They're fun. Can you outgrow fun? I can't.

Thanks for taking the time to answer our hard hitting questions! Any last words?

No thanks to you! Gamers With Jobs is about the only gaming site I visit these days and definitely the greatest gaming community online. I wuv you guys!

Comments

Wow, there really are a lot of canucks on the site, eh? Right on. We rule.

The good old Quake... and worldcraft. Making maps is fun.

For the record, that picture was taken at my company's annual Golf tournament after 9 holes and 9 beers.

The back nine was a lotta fun. Golf wasn't bad either.

Insert witty comment here

Hmm, it logged me out and didn't put in my post...

Are you a separationist?

For me to POOP ON!

I love Triumph.

Nice answers though.

The Canadians are invading, aaah!!! So, are you saying "peace" in the picture, or "two more rounds!"?

Another nice profile.

You can play Quake on the Internet?

No wonder he has stupendous gaming powers, he's a radioactive mutant writing code from the heart of a reactor all day! Aiieeee! Run!

BTW, Green, I have a similar picture taken just for you. But I'm only holding up one finger....guess which one.

Great to see what another of my online buddies looks like in RL! Good profile.

Heh. Hit the submit button by accident. Uh, as long as I'm here editing - How come you don't wear ugly clothes when you golf like what you have your Links guy wear?

What I want to know is... where's the green?

Wow, he's smooth! Has a job, does mods, has a committed relationship, is not spooked sh*tless at the idea of having kids, plays golf and boxes, plays piano and guitar, and doesn't have a goatee!!

He's WAAAY to mature for the rest of us!

French-Canadian accent and hot, hot, hot too?! Consider me swooning!

About time we get Green in the hot seat here. Who's next Uncle Certis?

Are you a separationist?

That's separatist actually. Short answer: NO! My mother is though and while I can understand her motives I believe she lives in the past just like the other separatists. The movement is slowly but surely dying.

The Canadians are invading, aaah!!! So, are you saying "peace" in the picture, or "two more rounds!"?

I'm not sure buddy, you start doing pretty random stuff after drinking that much.

BTW, Green, I have a similar picture taken just for you. But I'm only holding up one finger....guess which one.

The one picking up treasures in your nose?

Uh, as long as I'm here editing - How come you don't wear ugly clothes when you golf like what you have your Links guy wear?

My Links guy has to wear green clothes. It's a freakin concept. I'm stuck with it. You should see my Top Spin guy...

French-Canadian accent and hot, hot, hot too?!

Errr yeah... well... thanks man. I guess... errr... I like you too buddy!

Mr. Green's Quake 2 CTF maps were very unique. They actually have 3 teams, but the 3rd team's base is actually a chunk removed from the 2nd team's base, moved to the side of the map, and shielded off from interaction with the other two teams by way of invisible walls.

Damn separatists.

Damn that was a quick turn around time. 1000 posts on Nov 26, 2004 and already a employee profile. Hmmm.

Good profile...nice to see what you have in common with someone who you don't always agree with in the politics forum

Quite a lot it seems... Nice to meet you Mr Green!

Certis posted my Employee Profile before I hit 1000, Edwin. He's done that to several other GWJ'ers. I think it's because he's Canadian and so easily confused.

Your fingers may be saying "peace man" but your face says "screw off before I thump you with my 9 iron".

Mr.Green congrats on becoming one of the Elite! And yes the Canadians are slowly consuming this board, we are many in number, and to be feared!

It's nice to see you have hobbies other than gaming. I think one of these days I'll get around to getting outside in the sun, but hey, now it's winter and it's time for hibernation. And lots of game playing.

Oh yeah and all that media backlash at Conan was silly. Most Canadians have a great sense of self-depreciating humor and sly sarcastic tone to most things. Whatever you do, don't insult the beaver on our Nickel though, or the gloves are off. He was our first Prime Minister after all..

Its just too bad you don't like World of Warcraft

You're somehow more.. old.. than I imagined.

You look like the guys that sneer at me and mumble things like "damn kids" when I step past them in stores, or the ones that flip me off because I'm doing 5 miles an hour over the speed limit on the interstate.

Gorilla is right, you're way too mature for us, or at least you look like you are

You're somehow more.. old.. than I imagined.

Maybe it's the avatar. I saw a young'un, too.

And yes the Canadians are slowly consuming this board, we are many in number, and to be feared!

Bah! That's just because what the hell else are you going to do when you live where the snow melts in June? Play outside?

Jebus I'm not that old! At least I didn't think I was... What are you? 16?

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft! Damn kids!

22. Apparantly I look just old enough for random customers at work to ask me if I have kids on occasion, but not old enough to garner any form of respect from people 10 years older than I am.

It's definitely rather odd.

It's funny I always thought you were pretty much my age. Anyway, "La qualité n'attend pas le nombre des années". I have friends your age and I have friends 10 years older than I am that I met when I was your age. I don't see any difference, they're all "friends". It's about attitude, personality and common interests, not about the number of years you've been alive.

not about the number of years you've been alive.

Good, cause I was afraid to post this, but I am actually a 9 year old girl.

You'll attract unwanted guests with posts like these Taco!

Should I have said I was an innocent 18 year old girl that is having odd feelings in her body for the first time?
