Video Game Deals Catch-All

Pages

Just wondering if anyone is opposed to the idea of a thread here announcing retail deals on games and game-related items. Might be nice for those who don't frequent other sites like CAG. If there's no opposition, here's one to start:

Toys R Us starting Sunday 8/17, Xbox 360 games buy 1, get 50% off another. Great for people planning on buying Too Human this week.

I wonder if it includes pre-orders? That'd be good, Too Human and Mercenaries 2 sounds like a good grouping.

I just noticed on the online TRU add that it says "Excludes Pre-Orders". I did see Quake Wars is on sale this week at Best Buy for $39.99. Might be worth it if there was enough GWJ interest but I don't see it taking hold. I had fun with the demo for a bit though.

Toys R Us is having a buy one get one half price on all 360 games this week.

One thing I can recommend is GoGamer's 48 Hour Madness deals. They rotate through a wide range of games, and sometimes the offers are spectacular.

Not to be a shill (well, OK, exactly to be a shill but do keep in mind that I don't get paid to do this), I'd like to point to Lion Games, the pride... of the gaming jungle. He's a nice guy, lives about an hour from me, used to sponsor the podcast, and usually has great prices. He'll also usually pay you more for your used games than GameStop.

He used to have some INSANE deals (HALO 3 on release day for $40, for instance) where he actually sold stuff at a loss in hopes it would earn him some customer loyalty but he's had to cut back on that since it didn't quite work out the way he'd hoped.

If you use gamefly: Threaten to cancel your account. When you click the cancle account button and click the box "shipping is to slow" they will give you this whole apology and ask you if you wand to renew for $9.99 a month.

They just offered that to me but I was just to frustrated with the shipping times and game availability that I canceled anyway.

Oh great! I spotted a great deal on MS points this morning and wasn't sure where to post it...

Amazon UK has 2100 points for £15.31 (odd price point but there you go.) It's the lowest price I've seen for that many points in the UK.

What's that in real money?

I think it's about 1500 gold

I just tested this and its 9.99 for one month then 15.95 for each month there after. It made it sound like my old subscription would be canceled and a new one would be started at that promotional rate for one month. I didn't go through with it for fear of loosing my 10% off all games + Gamefly dollars.

I've been thinking about doing gamefly, but then I look at my pile and realize I have my own personal game queue to get through first.

OK, it's not actually a video game, but we bought a navigation system about a year ago, and now we can't live with out it.

Garmin NUVI 370 GPS Navigator - Usually $900, on sale at Amazon today for $250.

I got the nuvi 350 and it was worth every penny. The text to speech is definitely it's best feature.

Going to start a deal thread.

If you're going GPS, I don't know how much I trust the seller, but Garmin Nuvi 750 for $250

The Target near me had The Darkness on clearance for $9.98. It's not a bad game, and for that price it's a steal. Probably YMMV, but Target clearances are usually across all stores, it's supply that varies.

Some Best Buy stores have "Blue dot" games that can be 30% off all the way to buy one get one free depending on the store. That's definitely YMMV.

FYI: the Nuvi 300 series are discontinued. It's still a very good deal though.

Its refurbished.

I'm heading right over there. For the 360, I hope?

Now that both of our kids are in school I'm catching up on my game time on my day off during the week.

Yes, sorry, it was the 360 version.

I've got a copy of The Darkness lying around I'd be willing to sell.

The Darkness price is dropping pretty quickly recently. Picked it up for $12 or something like that.

Argh! Another damn irresistible Steam weekend sale. This time it's Beyond Good and Evil for $5. I already own the original of this, but lent it to my sis-in-law and haven't seen it since. Now you have no excuse to not have played this game.

edit: Looks like Audiosurf is also $5 this weekend. Luckily I already have that one.

ARISE!

Gamestop's weekend deal until Thursday is $20 off a refurbished Original XBox or Playstation 2 (Large, original hardware). That means an original XBox, for an XBMC or just for play can be had for a mere $40, and a PS2 for $60. Quite a deal.

Hey, maybe now I'll finally get that PS2, heard there's good stuff on that... <---Not kidding

Hmm it's tempting, but it's the PS2 original design.

PS2 original == win. I still have mine from the first model after launch. It's got more hours on it than I care to remember. (Put it this way, being on for a week straight, with just a reset to switch games is pretty normal. And I've had it for AGES.)

Edit: Oh, it's also been kicked, knocked over, been walked on by a 110+ lbs dog, been stepped on innumberable times by a 40~ lbs toddler, and it still works like a charm.

Seconded. My PS2 still works, even though I haven't used it in a while. It's the most robust optical based game system I've ever owned. (My N64 survived being hit by a sword. A real one, not a plastic one and no, it wasn't out of frustration at Turok 2. Complete accident. It takes a lot to kill a solid state machine.)

The only problem I'ver heard with the PS2 phats is that you can't actually use them vertically because the discs get unbalanced and scratch.

I've heard that the slim PS2s overheat more often because they removed the cooling fans to make it smaller.

GameFly is having a sale with free shipping. I'm getting Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for $25.

Nm, I'm a stupid skimmer.

PC Strategy fans, take note: If you pre-order Civilization IV: Colonization from GamersGate, you get Europa Universalis III for free.
