Too Human Catch-All

Too Human is now gold and dated for August 19th! This is the place for (spoiler free) impressions. In the mean time, the demo should unlock a couple more characters soon and I'm hoping we'll hear something about changes to the final game based on demo feedback. Maybe some menu speed/sound improvements? Who knows.

That menu really does bug you doesn't it? I don't think I noticed the sound until you guys brought it up.

I know there are a lot of refinement concerns over the GUI and the animations, but I am very excited about this game. I've played the demo several times (which is something I never do), plus Eternal Darkness (an earlier SK title) is one of my favorite all-time games.

*Looks at calendar* 18 more days!? Dang!

To be honest - I never noticed the sound either, and it doesn't bother me much now that i do.

I would REALLY like to see a bit of speed pit into the menus though.
Not a deal breaker however - looking forward to it coming out.

I highly doubt there will be any improvements over the demo. Considering the length of development time, when the demo came out, and the fact the game is now gold, I bet the demo = the game, in every way.

I will be buying this one. I am a little sad that it doesn't live up to its potential in many areas (I have been waiting since day 1 with this title) buy I will buy it and give it a chance. Maybe there will be some super over-the-top sexy armor that keeps me interested.

The menu sound does bug me as well. I like my menus snappy, lag free and without annoyances, especially if I have to keep hopping back in them!

Day one for me, I only played the demo a couple of times, but I saw more good than bad. Plus I need a new co-op game to mash through with my kid, and this looks to fit the bill.

Yeah I don't have a huge surround-soudn system, so I never even noticed that there were sound effects in the menus, and after the first two times I accessed the menus, I didn't even notice the delay.

I was playing Mass Effect on my 360 last night, and the half-second delay as you scroll past each individual item was way way more obnoxious than any menu slowness in TH.

I'm definitely picking up this game the day it's out, though. I have been craving a good, brainless hack-and-slash game that won't make me feel like I'm just spamming X X X X X X Y X X X for hours at a time.. I really like the twin-stick mechanic (and I don't enjoy most twin-stick shooters,) because it's really a very relaxed method of play unless I choose to insert more complicated maneuvers like juggling, or pinballing between opponents midair.

Oh yeah, that was brutal. Mass Effect's menus/inventory system were just awful.

In a way, I do agree that perhaps the demo is a good indication of what the full game will be. That said, I would also like to mention that Demo might be out now but the code it self might be a bit older simply because it takes time to go through Microsoft Certification. It not like developer just sit idly on their hands during that time!

I'm holding off before buying it (though I will buy it at some point). I've heard that the demo is very representative of the game. Like, all of it. It's just hallways, hallways, hallways, and more hallways.

I'll be buying. BF: Bad Company is getting traded back in toward it.

After playing through the demo again a few days ago, I'm really looking forward to it. Who's down for some co-op play through the campaign? Also, anyone know how co-op will work for those who have beaten the game? Is it like Diablo 2 or Titan Quest where you just play through the same game over and over?

You can play the same character over and over... and you should if you want to hit the Lv.50 cap. You can also use the same character for SP and Co-op... the loot and xp will cary over what ever mode you play. One thing to note though that in co-op, the Story will be removed. So if you interested to see what is going on... you have to solo.

Also, apparently there will be multiple character slots so you can have different class build, etc... I think Denis mentioned that this will be explained in upcoming video that SK is putting together.

I wish they'd stuck with the 4 player co-op. 2 player just seems like you might as well do it alone.

Game Trailers has a really nice preview up:

Too Human preview

I enjoyed the demo and have high hopes for this game now. My only concern so far with the game is that there appears to be a real lack of enemy diversity in all the previews I have seen so far. I really do not want to be crawling through multiple dungeons smashing through the same character model that is simply painted a different colour to indicate a higher level.

Yay, we get to fight Grendel!

Poor, poor Grendel... It's not your fault you were born a monster.

Apparently, review copies reached the hands of journalists last week, so we'll probably be hearing a lot more about this in a couple/few days.

I'd venture a guess that reviews will not differ much from the previews.

Regardless, still day one for me.

Day or Week One purchase for me, too.

Someone mentioned in the other thread that the classes all play the same. I agree with this. Too Human reminds me a little bit of Diablo 1, in that game the classes where somewhat homogenous as well. The difference is that Diablo 1 classes started out unique and became clones as you reached higher levels. I suspect Too Human is the opposite.

Since selling off the 360 I'm finding myself really hoping for a PC release of this game. Will definitely use the controller to play though.

I just hope that this time, maybe (just maybe!) the reviewers will be allowed to have opinions. Don't get me wrong, I have a LOT more respect for Dyack after hearing him on our podcast and he makes some good points, but at some point the guy's got to accept that there is room in this world for people to have opposing viewpoints and those people are sometimes journalists and those viewpoints are sometimes about something in which you're deeply invested.

Sorry, who's podcast? Unless I missed an episode, I haven't heard him on the Conference Call.

I think LM is referring to 1up Yours podcast.

Well, he said "our podcast" which is why I was wondering. We were previously on both sides of the debate after he was on 1UP Yours so I'm not sure if that's what he meant.

Oh, whoops, it may have been the 1Up podcast. I listened to a bunch of them all at once and some of them got kinda mixed together.

Or maybe I'm just projecting how those guys are often immature morons who talk more about what they're drinking than what they're playing and that our podcast is infinitely more worthy of a high profile interviewee. To their credit they are less often immature alcoholics than most gaming podcasters, which is why I still listen to them and have dropped many others.

Like Ken Levine, for instance.

So, the release is almost here... and so it's time for some reviews.

1up.com - C-
GameInformer - 6.75 and 7 (Printed Review)
Games - 9.3 (Printed Review)

Ouch. Weird how Games is so much higher though. I'm sure we'll hear soon enough why the low reviews are wrong and stupid and need to STFU. The 1up review seems very negative and brutal, but it also seems to very intentionally go around the politics. It just dives right in and stays so focused it almost seems terse. In fact, it seems like it presumes the reader already knows everything about the game.

I'd be nice if they at least MENTIONED the two-stick control scheme, other than just to say "the controls suck."

7/10 is good enough i think. IMO, most games should be a C and i'd be happy with that as a designer.... aw, who am i kidding? I'd want my game to be at least a B+.

Meh, from the fun I had with the demo I'm still sure it will pass the time nicely until the fall rush starts in September.
