Official GWJFFL 2008 Interest and Setup Thread

Either they're working on it or I'm special.

I did see the double-entry on the commish pages, though.

If it's EA, I'll certainly appreciate the live draft flexibility and the blind bidding.

Did I miss something about fleaflicker? Are they not supporting a live draft, either?

I'm just talking about the lack of a restriction on the start time. That is the problem we were having with FleaFlicker, wasn't it?

No, it's a constraint with EA. The problem with FF was the lack of blind bidding.

Oh. Well then never mind.

FYI... Just in case this happens to other people.

The link that EA sends in the invitation did not work correctly in my version of FireFox 3 on XP.

Instead of going to the signup page for the league, it goes to the main EA FF page. When I click 'login' or 'signup' or 'get started' it just reloads the same page.

Since the page is ASP, I loaded the link in IE and everything worked fine.

What's up with our 'scoring system'?

I assume you're just playing around and tweaking the system, but I thought I'd call it to your attention.

Damn! Someone stole my draft rankings! wtf?

It's easy. The closer your name is to "Aaaaaa Aaaaaaaaa", the more points you get. If Alan Ameche was still in the league, he'd be a #1 pick.

Since the page is ASP, I loaded the link in IE and everything worked fine.

Only Microsoft could make a server-side scripting language have compatibility issues with a client browser.

I'm pretty sure they all currently have 0 points.

Ahhhh... That's this years stats, and they are listed in alphabetical order. I see that now. Doh!!

I was looking for a list of last years stats using our scoring system. My bad.

(Edited and updated) Repost for the new page.

Fantasy Football is about attention to detail. If you can't be bothered to read this whole post, there's a list of alternates ready to step in to manage a team.

*ahem*

As promised, it's time for a roll call to make sure that everyone is still in. When you check in, please put the following 6 dates in order of preference. If you don't want to do all 6, please provide at least your top 3, in order. If you don't care about dates, at least let us know whether you're in or not. Anyone who hasn't checked in by 8/22 will get a PM. Anyone who hasn't checked in by 8/24 will be replaced.

  • Tues, 8/26
  • Wed, 8/27
  • Sat, 8/30
  • Sun, 8/31
  • Mon, 9/1
  • Tues, 9/2

Also, please give some indication as to roughly what time in the evening you would be available for drafting. Provide as much or as little information as you like. For example, you can be as generic as "Any night after 9pm" or you may want to provide specific details for each of the above 6 options; the choice is yours. Of course, we'll be constrained by the limitations of what the host site makes available but I'll try to be as accommodating as possible.

I'll be keeping track of check-ins and draft day voting over on the spreadsheet if you want to follow along.

Finally, unless some major functional deficiency comes to light that hampers our ability to use it, the league will be hosted this year at http://fantasy.easports.com/. It supports blind bidding, live drafts, co-ownership, and pretty much every other feature we look for and, for those to whom it applies, also adds Madden integration this year. PM me your email address so I can have the site send you an invite so you can kick the tires. The decision won't be final until 8/20 but if you want to leave EA, you're going to have to provide a functionally comparable alternative.

P.S. As soon as I have a full set of confirmations from a particular league, I'll generate draft order so PM your co-owners and get them in here.

Can you edit your last post to confirm who has "checked in" already Grump?

Basically, I'm giving credit to anyone that has posted since the roll call started so you're covered, Leap. I'm also updating the spreadsheet now. Anyone highlighted in orange has checked in.

Edit: I'll also post the list you requested in the thread tonight.

Any of the 6 dates is fine with me, 9:00 PM EST start time would be my preference.

Sweet, you just renamed my city... now I'm from Forth Worth, Texas. Has that nice ring to it.

9/1
9/2
8/31

EDIT: Any reasonable time will be fine.

OK, signed up on EA's site (and yes, if you're using Firefox you have to do it manually). Thanks for running things again, Grump.

Alright, I'm here. Here are my preferred times:

* Tues, 9/2
* Mon, 9/1
* Tues, 8/26
* Wed, 8/27

For sure can't do any of these days:
* Sat, 8/30
* Sun, 8/31

Updated Blacksheep's city (though I kinda like "Forth Worth") and trowan's times, and got Minase and Elliottx checked in.

My rank:

1. Tues, 8/26 (all day)
2. Wed, 8/27 (all day)
3. Tues, 9/2 (all day; afternoon/evening would be best)

4. Sat, 8/30 (I may be in Austin or New Orleans, but I could get to a PC... afternoon/evening would be best)
5. Sun, 8/31 (I may be in Austin or New Orleans, but I could get to a PC... afternoon/evening would be best)
6. Mon, 9/1 (Probably not available if I go to Austin or New Orleans.)

I'm in. The later the better is what I say in regards to the draft. But what's all this live draft stuff? Do we still have the option of an auto drafter? I doubt i'm going to make any live draft.

9/1
9/2
8/31

Anything that isn't crazy I'll make, if I'm given enough lead time. That's the important part. I can make anything if I know well enough beforehand.

Grumpicus wrote:

Here's the list of who I currently have as checked in.

  • Minaseans
  • Elliottx's Hiros
  • Blacksheep's PUP list
  • Grump's Chumps
  • Old Man's Depends
  • trowan's BrownStains
  • Leap's Peeps
  • Logan's Heroes
  • *Legion* and the p*ssycats
  • Stricniners

It looks like we're waiting on Gaald and Bagga here.

----------

  • Jayhawker
  • My Grumps
  • Standard Deviations
  • 9th Ward Boyz
  • This..is..KARMA's TEAM!

Still missing over half the teams here.

The weekdays should be better for me and any reasonable time.

Things look poorly for the b league.

Perhaps you should apply a bit of peer pressure... or a neighborly heads-up at least.

Well, they set my other league's draft for the Evening on September 2nd, so I'll have to remove that date from my wishlist.

I can make just about any time work, as long as it's after work hours. Weekends can be pretty much any time.

I just signed up at EA - looks slick but I just realized I need to get my sh*t together for the season. Man, it's already August 20, where the hell have I been? Got a lot of catching up to do....

That's what I suggested keeping the standby people as alternates rather than forming a "c" league, because I was (and still am) pretty damn sure that they would be needed.
