"Left 4 Dead" Catch All

Yeah I don't see any reason why this shouldn't be the catch-all thread for the game. All it needs is a title change from Rat Boy.

Was this sarcasm? Please tell me it was sarcasm...

It is easy to setup matches, as soon as it becomes avail I will post an announcement on the steam group that a L4D: Zombie game is going up.

Then just look at your steam friends list and I'm sure 90% will be L4d playing

Mostly, I was just wondering if this was going to be the thread people will be using, or if there will be another specific thread a la "Gears and Beers" or "Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)". Just curious.

I am so freaking excited about this game. Usually, I wait so long to get into a multiplayer game, that by the time I do I feel late to the party. I'm going to make an effort to get in on this on day 1, and hopefully avoid that hangup.

"It's only four months away." was definitely sarcasm.

A honest question. On the internet, you never know.

This was coming up a bit in the TF2 thread... but how do you think the set up will be for setting up the multiplayer? Will it be the old stand by -- much like HL and HL2 derived multiplayer games have been set up before, or something different. I'm hoping different. With the amount of interest we have in this game we'll need someway to easily organize into multipule games of a smaller size than a TF2 match. Or maybe we'll just end up with 4 servers all named "romero" or "Fulici" with the same password ( say..."herbertwest" or "trioxin") , 3 dead-icated to normal matches, and the last dedicated to Survivors versus infected.
Thoughts?

I see what you did there.

I've just seen info about this game and I might be wrong but I don't see it being a big hit...

I'll wait until the demo but I'm not convinced it will be popular on the level of TF2 or Gears of War...

You sir must be one of those intelligent zombies folks are talkin about. Trying to stop us from slaughtering all of yer kind. I won't fall fer none of yer tricks!

I really hope there's support for the 360 version. Watching all the TF2 updates go to pc only is so frustrating :-/

I can practically guarantee it won't be any different for Left4Dead than it is with TF2. With the certification process developers must go through to get patches onto the xbox, they can't realistically get patches out as often as on the PC.

This is just a fact of life for the console stuff. The red tape Microsoft makes developers go through to get a patch onto a 360 game is really just not very conducive to getting most types of new content out on a very regular schedule. If there's an exception I would say it would be Rock Band, but we don't know what kind of lead time there is on those packs. For all we know we're seeing Rock Band packs released a couple months after they're actually finished and submitted.

For a company like Valve that seems to like trying to constantly evolve their game it's just not the best situation.

That's a big part of why I'm not bothering with the 360 version of Left 4 Dead.

It games like this that make me happy I am mainly a PC gamer.

Its nice that Valve put it on the 360 but yeah... they are use to giving their stuff out for free and not having to go through certification.

It's hard to say. I think it'll be a lot of fun but I'll definitely want to play it with folks from this site as opposed to just random Internet people. I can jump on a random TF2 server and blow off steam for a while even if my teammates are idiots, but L4D needs everyone to buy in to the "magic circle" or the experience will be meaningless. It comes down to whether the goodjers play it enough to provide a good pool of people to hook up in random foursomes.

I think it will be at least as popular as TF2 on 360 or Gears on PC, so that's something.

I kinda want to be in a group that's three Goodjers, and one random pubby. That way it's a bit like a zombie movie...there's always someone incompetent or might have his own motivations. That pubby can play that role. Tension!

Nice! He can get bit early on and then we debate killing him because you just know he'll turn zombie at the worst possible time. "I won't slow you down, I swear! Gimme another gun."

Aw crap.

"There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production," was Lombardi's comment on the rumor. Sometimes I think rumor-mongers make stuff up and just hope some of their ideas stick. Hmm ... now that's an idea ...

I'm unfamiliar with destructoid. Are they reliable? The story seems to be corraborated in a couple of places that I've also never heard of.

Destructoid is up there with Kotaku and Joystiq, I'm surprised you've not heard of them.

I'd actually argue that Destructoid is a better site than either of the other two, just less popular.

Destructoid can be pretty good - it's on my daily news-check

..although their podcasts often completely redefine the term NSFW 0_0

Yah, well it's kind of my only option as my Insipron 1501 isn't really up to the task (the thing heats up during diablo II to the point where I think I'm sterile now). I'm not sure what the hell is going on with the TF2 updates as neither the medic nor the pyro made it over to console and there's not even an ETA for it. I just hope I won't have to sit by as everyone playing L4D on pc gets new maps/scenarios. Oh well, I'll be buying it anyways, who am I kidding . . .

Kota-who? Joy-what?

You dang kids and yer intertoobs and yer fancy blam-blam or whatever ya call it, and yer collectible bottle caps, and yer powdered wigs and yer peg-legs with the decals on 'em...

Where was I? Oh never mind. I'll catch you at Denny's. I wonder if 9AM is too early for the earlybird special.

"Hey, bob, you're limping a bit...you ok?"

"I'm totally fine, I um, twisted my ankle jumping off that car..."

"and you look a bit pale, and man are you sweating...."

"I've got a cold! I'm fine, I'm fine!"

"Well okay..."

Then bob tries to eat us!
Maybe he says this:

".....See? You made me hurt myself again! I broke my hand off completely at the wrist this time, Tina! But that's okay, Darlin', because I love you, and that's why you have to let me EAT YOUR BRAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIINS! "

Only if you're the humans. I'll bet you can jump in just about anywhere as a zombie and have a good time.

I think that Valve has been saying from the beginning that there will be no PS3 version of L4D. They learned some hard lessons from the console releases of the Orange Box. The latest PS3 port rumor is probably just wishful thinking.

Now I have a Marilyn Manson song going through my head...

"We're dead, we know just who we are."

Hrm.. I might have to think about what songs I'd like playing in the background of L4D now.

Alternatively, the pubby could fill in the Red Shirt role.

We can call him "Henchman #1" and all tell him why he is doomed.

Only if we can be completely lazy and incompetent and still survive, mocking his very existence.

That reminds me, does anyone know if the people playing zombies can communicate with each other? I wonder if that would make them overpowered.
