Aloha! Ho'olu komo la kaua pa'ani* (Pile of Shame)

Pages

This month's thread says, "Hello! Please join us in a game" in honor of Hawaii becoming a state on August 21, 1959. That means you need to dust off some of your older titles, commit to playing them and stay away from the poi. Let's get started!

* - It's the best translation I could come up with.

This month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30]Assassin's Creed

Still debating, but I'm leaning toward Half-Life 2. I'm about 2 hours into it.

How about Half-Life: Source?

Hush, you. Didn't you have Baldur's Gate on there for like a year at one point?

I love the subject.

Alrighty two realistic choices for this month. Fallout 2 and Folklore.

I've started digging into Folklore already, I like the gameplay, I like the sense of style. I wish the storytelling was a little more streamlined but I enjoy the story too. Hopefully I can stick with it.

No, it was Resident Evil 4.

Well, I still have The Witcher on my list. It's becoming my personal albatross. I did make it through chapter two (damn, stupid golem!) so I'm making some progress, I suppose.

And since it's up on Gametap I'm going to try playing Fallout again, though so far all it has managed to do is crash my system. I don't know if it counts or not though; I played (and finished) it 10 years ago so I'm not sure if it belongs on The Pile or not.

(And why does it depress me that I've lived longer than Hawaii has been a state... )

Final Fantasy VI. Still working it.

I'll probably add Ratchet & Clank to mine. I doubt I'll ever finish Burnout 3, which is the other console game I've been playing.

I am so close to finishing both Mass Effect and Phoenix Wright 1.

I'll carry Metroid Prime 3 over from last month -- I'm not quite at the end yet but I did at least pick it up again and get a bit more done I'll probably get through the Rock Band solo guitar tour on Expert as well, but I'm not sure if that counts for the pile.

I'm probably going to not include music games going further. How do you finish them? Is it one instrument, all difficulties, what?

I may dig up something from the PS2 or Xbox pile.

Put me down for Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3 and Zak & Wiki - been trying to work through my stack of wii games recently

I put RE4 in multiplatform, everything else is under Wii. Let's see if we can get a few more on Zak and Wiki. That one is on my pile too, and it would make a great pick of the pile.

Edit - IT on-call is awesome. 4:15 AM and working on a problem.

Nice title! Put my down for Bioshock. I couldn't really get into it when I played it the last time, and never finished it. I guess it's time I finally put it to rest. Also put me down for Portal. I liked it more than Bioshock, but I still didn't finish it. I'm sure this makes me some kind of gamer heretic, so I guess it's time to come back into the fold to seek my gamer redemption! Hallelujah!

Edit: Both of those for the PC, natch. The only true gaming platform!

It's a bit dangerous listing too much for this month, since I don't have as much free time anymore, plus WoW is singing its siren song, and I just began Kotor for the first time and am liking it much more than I expected, but...here goes:

Super Mario Bros. 1 (NES) - Despite owning this since basically when the NES was released in North America, I never completed it. The only ones I ever have finished were SMB 2 US (not a real Mario title), and the first two Super Mario Lands on GameBoy. I should turn in my gamer card, shouldn't I?

Breath of Fire (SNES) - Halfway through this one (which is twice as far as the first time I played it 13+ years ago). It's actually quite amazing what used to pass for "acceptable dialog" in these games. Still, having fun with it.

Fire Emblem (GBA) - I've played this game off and on for 5 years now, over 3 different continents! I'm on mission 23 and just want to get it out of my pile!!! *sob*

Shadowgrounds: Survivor (PC) - Really fun top-down shooter á la SmashTV, but I'm ready to move on....probably to the original Shadowgrounds.

Deep Space 9: The Fallen (PC) - The show is my favorite Trek by far, and the game is pretty decent (despite not having all of the actors voice their characters), so it's a surprise I never finished this years ago.

...and if by some miracle these fall quickly, I'll probably add R: Racing Evolution and Tron 2.0 to the list later.

I put both in multi because they're available on several platforms.

HERESY!

*cough*

Ok, I'm over it. Thanks!

I'll make the pick of the pile sometime on Monday. So, start getting your games in.

I'm still working on Etrian Odyssey for the DS, and making decent progress. It's possible I may actually finish it this month.

Put me down for Beyond Good & Evil, Overlord and, if it counts, a grand campaign of Medieval 2: Total War.

Man Hemi, you're really reaching for thread titles now aren't you.

Anyway, please put me down for Half Life 2: Episodes 1&2, Super Mario Galaxy, and Assassin's Creed. I may even try to start Mass Effect later in the month, but all bets are off when Mercenaries 2 releases.

Yes, yes I am. The well runs deep, but it gets weird near the bottom.

List should be current.

I left Medieval off 4D, because I don't know if it's a "story" campaign or more of a Gal Civ campaign, which is to say, it's not a campaign.

Time to admit I too have a growing pile of shame. I've been away from my consoles for most of the summer, adding extra shame. I'm going to try to finish Bioshock and Assassin's Creed, which should cover my 360 pile. I'll save the Wii titles for next month.

I really want to knock out The World ends with You. Also, I have had Geometry Wars 2 for about 2 days now, and only have a few achievments left. I guess getting all of them could be considered clearing it from my pile.

The only game I have started is Bioshock, so write me down for finally tackling this one. After last week's FFVII victory I think I can do a quicker FPS.

Yoreel wrote:

I generally only list games that have been out for a while. In a few months Geometry Wars 2 will be eligible for "Pile of Shame" status.

I don't want to make Bioshock the Pick of the Pile again, so lets get some more people on some of these other titles.

I'll play this month.

Put me down for Halflife 2, which I've started more times than I can count, STALKER and Fallout 1. Both those latter I've been picking at for a while and need a serious effort now.

I like the Hawai'in theme. By the way, does anyone else live in Hawaii and feel like a slap and tickle?

Attempted thread hi-jack in progress, please remain seated. Really earning that tag, buddy.

I quit!

Assigning to this thread only graces me with guilt at the end of the month. I still haven't finished The Witcher, on the contrary I switched to The Movies
I now proclaim myself The Ultimate Gaming Flip-flop!

I'm going for a new approach: not to buy any game until I've finished another. This way I still get to flip-flop minus the guilt

Good luck everyone with finishing your games! Have fun...
