Celebrate Freedom by Clearing Your Pile

Finished Sam & Max: S1. Generally satisfied, though I thought the final episode was a bit of a letdown. Abe Lincoln Must Die and Reality 2.0 were great, especially the songs.

I finished Diablo 2 (plus the expansion) last week. I hit the same snag in act 3 where I got kinda bored with it, but I slogged through and enjoyed acts 4 & 5.

Crap, one week to go. I think I can make it.

Holy carp, I just beat Planescape! It was fantastic (of course) but I never thought I'd actually make it.

Just killed Hitman:Blood Money.

Oh those divine aquatica. How we love them so.

Wow, that's impressive!

Yeah, I think I'm almost done with Jeanne D'Arc, and I'd better be, because I'm finding other things more interesting.

Damned side quests in Obliivon are so distracting.

Just ... one ... more ... side quest!

Huzzah! Finally finished Titan Quest + Expansion (on normal at least).
Question : is it worth playing through again on the next difficulty level or can I safely free up some hard disk space?

Down falls GTA: IV. I loved it, and went the revenge ending method, as well as taking out Darko.

Now I just have to get on Patapon and FF VII in the next four or so days.

Company of Heroes done! Really good game but makes me realize just how done I am with this style of RTS. No working on the pile next month, it'll be Mass Effect and maybe back to Tamriel for some Oblivion: those damn enablers on the GOTY thread have made me want to reinstall and re-mod...

Lost Odyssey is done. Great game.

You know what? Cross off Valkyrie Profile for me. I don't think I'll ever go back to this game again. It's just not worth the time.

Is there any way to finish the story by other means? Watching videos of the cut scenes or reading a summary? Sometimes it is as satisfying to say, "Ok I'm not enjoying this anymore. I'm done." and cross a game off your list that way. Sounds like you've given the game every chance.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. Thanks for the suggestion.

Now I will continue my play through of FFVI. So far it is infinitely better than what I was playing previously. I only hope it stays that way.

Just FINALLY took down Diablo II and Lord of Destruction.

6/7 years ago I made it until about halfway through Act IV...this time I gritted my teeth and plowed through it. Acts III and IV are such low-points, IMO. I and V are easily my favorites.

Killing Diablo was also only possible due to my unique ability to RESPAWN. I was a level 28/29 Assassin at that time, specializing in martial arts, and would get flattened in 4-5 hits!

This is how the fight went:

See Diablo, die. Hireling dies as well.
Respawn.
Portal back (created a portal right near Diablo's platform)
Create new portal for when I die next.
Caste speed on self.
Run as fast as possible to my corpse, loot it, and create a shadow (weak, I know, but it served as a tiny distraction)
Try to fight Diablo....if I'm lucky, I actually hit him a few times before I:
DIE
Respawn.........(and repeat the above steps over 20 times!!!!!)

The fight with Baal, in comparison, was nearly a cakewalk. I didn't die a single time! Although I must admit, by then I was level 36, and had a level 6 Shadow Master in addition to my Amazon hireling. I did, however, use up 22 Super healing potions on myself and my hireling.

Still working on Professor Layton - I'm near the end, but puzzle 116 is a tough one! (edit: nevermind - I misunderstood one of its requirements.)

Also, I call shenanigans on #67 - not only is the "logic" required to get the answer unbelievably obscure (I could have been stuck on this forever, but I finally caved and used a walkthrough), but if you don't have the correct region hardware available to you, the puzzle is borderline impossible!

I never formally submitted it, because I didn't think I'd get to it/finish it this month, but I just cleared the original Fallout off my pile. It was a mixture of a brilliantly realized world, a real sense of exploration and infuriating design decisions (see this thread for the the details on that saga).

On the whole, a very enjoyable experience. I'm looking forward to Fallout 2 + 3.

Now I really need to wrap up Odin Sphere.

Well, just polished off Professor Layton, although I consulted a walkthrough to locate two of the puzzles, as well as on the final puzzle. Seeing angles that are not multiples of 45 is such a pain

LOVED the atmosphere, animation, humor, setting, and music! The story tied it all together fairly well (although it didn't explain everything about *I* wanted to know about St. Mystere...but I'm a bit nitpicky about things like that).

Zak & Wiki is complete. The game had a huge number of great puzzles, with a really solid ramp up in challenge. They do the whole "You beat the game, now try some challenge levels" thing, but I think I'm done with it.

Mass Effect is down! What an awesome game! I thoroughly enjoyed the main quests, and the storytelling was superb. The sidequests were a bit of a letdown, but I managed to slog through most of them. I'm very tempted to play it through again. I'm not sure how it would affect ME2 though. I went Paragon this time around, but if I play it again with the same character and go Renegade how will ME2 pan out? Are there even details on that?

In any case, please cross it off for me. One down, about 30 games to go!

Sorry? What was that? WoW is on the phone? No, please... I don't want to... I'm busy! No, really. Honest. Just one hour to spend together? hmm... maybe. No! That way lies madness! Half an hour? I don't know... oh ok then. But no more than half an hour...

It doesn't look like I'll finish either Diablo 2 or Chrono Trigger this month. I haven't gotten to play much of either of them the last couple of weeks. Too busy with the combo of work and girlfriend. Stupid life.

Sigh. I have a special request. Rather than crossing my name off for Odin Sphere, could you cross off the game title instead, because I did not beat that game. The game beat me.

In a fit of poor game design, the following occurs. you are required to fight the last set of bosses using the characters you've previously played as. Before you fight them you are offered the chance to go back to each characters story in order to grab items you might need and level up. But instead of being able to play those sections anyway you like, you are required to play through each story from the beginning again.

I like the game but I'm not going to sink another 10-20 hours into leveling up. So alas the game remains unbeaten. I'm tempted to just youtube the ending.

Wonder what side-quest/wormhole Wordsmythe has been sucked into.

That's awesome. I'm going to start doing that for games that "beat" people.

Mystic, I switched you on VP: Lenneth. Don't hurt me.

I'm really tempted to do the same with Half-Life for me.

Patapon is no more! I can't do anything else with it.

Yeah, Half-Life has beaten me. I just can't muster up any enthusiasm to play it.

I'm currently playing through SWAT4 which I've wanted to play for a long time.

To brag, I've finished Mass Effect PC and Assassin's Creed PC in the past couple months

Is this thread going to turn into "Excuses for the Pile"? Sheez, I get enough of that in my own life.

Turn in your gamer card.

What can I say man, sometimes the pile fights back, and fights dirty.

It's just...not...that...good.

That's right, I said it. It's like an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'M FREE!

Now, should I try and play HL2 next month?

It's probably not THAT good; probably just had the most cohesive story and level flow ever (for an FPS) at the time. Now you've played far better, and you can't go back.

FPSes before HL1 were a series of levels that if you were lucky were loosely collected on a merely thematic level. Doom, Quake. Quake in particular has no story at all and no real level flow.

Those games were more a test of stamina and FPS enthusiasm than anything else.
